qweasdzse: cut this entry on the grounds of it being more about personal hatred of the review than anything to do with the trope (it's also innacurate about the review not having a score.)
- While not giving scores, Insomnia's Team Fortress 2 review. Bonus "points" for its Eight Point Eightness stemming from the "Stop Having Fun" Guys and "It's not Team Fortress Classic, so it sucks" mentality driving the writing as well as the site admin's Small Name, Big Ego, both of which caused more hysteria on both the site's forum [1] and GameFAQs' TF2 board [2].
- It doesn't help much that his general response to people raising issues was "FUCK YOU YOU'RE A FUCKING RETARD YOUR OPINIONS DON'T COUNT GO FUCK YOURESLF"
Anyone else think this page needs a massive fixing? It's faintly ironic that a page about the backlash for 'low' scores has resulted in more people whining about the fucking things than discussing them.
I agree with the above poster (Mr. or Ms. 217). This page actually gets on my nerves in the way it cannot focus on tactful documentation of actual events rather than "orange gave watermelon a score of tomato (metacritic gave it banana)."
Here's hoping I remember to never click it again!
Edited by tiamkara “If you have a message for the devil give it to me and I’ll take it to him.”Agreed again.
At this point, it's basically a Self-Demonstrating Article, since about 90% of the content is backlash against reviews, usually using the counter-argument that somebody else rated it better. Work in some snide insults about the reviewer, and prop up your fanstuff, and presto, it's an 8.8 trope. I mean, seriously:
"Uncharted 2 has secured a spot as one of the greatest games of all time." Nice job stating something subjective as if it were fact, random editor.
I'd just go through and cut every entry that didn't have any example of fan backlash, but I'm pretty sure the only entry left would be the original 8.8 drama.
Shouldn't this be trivia and not YMMV, since it's about the reaction to the reaction to a work and not something really related to the work itself?

Check out this fancast I made! Any votes would be greatly appreciated! Hide / Show RepliesNowadays, metacritic scores determine whether or not developers get paid bonuses. Even more worrying is that it affects whether or not devs can get a job, whether retailers stock their games, and whether games can get sequels. Should it be mentioned in the article that there is somewhat of a justified reaction to "low" scores?
Hide / Show RepliesI can't really see a reason why we would.

The following sig has been censored due to copyright.Given the enormous backlash to Game Spot's review of Skyward Sword, I propose that we rename this trope to "Seven Point Five".
Hide / Show RepliesDepends. Where did the original name come from?
If Game Spot was responsible(again), I second this notion. EDIT: I checked and I second.
Edited by EeveeLordEight Point Eight is the more well known one. We're not going to rename a trope every time another prominent example of it comes up.
Is the quote at the top right, or did ten(Then) get misspelled?
Eevee Lord will check...
Does anyone have a link to X Play's explanation of why better games can get lower scores than their predecessors? It sounds interesting. I'd like to see it.

GAME OVERRemoved:
- A well-established fact about Pitchfork is that they do not have an ethics policy. While this is the norm for most blog-based websites, this also means that any rumors or speculation about their reviewing practices is true.
because it's ridiculous on its face. I've left in the part about the ethics policy, because it's an interesting point, but just because they have no explicit ethics policy, that doesn't mean that every rumor and speculation is ipso facto true.
I find it so f***ing hilarious that people flip out about a game getting "only" an 8.X. On a scale of 1-10, anything above an 8 (maybe a 7.5) is actually pretty good.
