Find a Trope:
openSnarky skepticism?
What is the trope for disbelieving something in a snide way? (An example is the "Yeah, right" phrase).
openIdiotic Cop Threat Live Action TV
I keep noticing this trope in the show Monk: Person A knows Person B killed someone, and says "I'm calling the cops" to Person B's face, only to be killed by Person B. Is this anywhere in the TVT database?
openChildren's TV show about a boy with rare eyes Live Action TV
When I was younger there was a children's sci-fi TV show about a boy who had these rare coloured eyes and a rare blood type. I think his father had tried to clone him but had failed to do so. He was highly sought after for experiments due to his rarity. Does anyone have any idea?
openIs The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy's 42, a NoodleIncident?
Since this isn't a trope, what is this? A Noodle Incident? Since the context is unknown?:
Franchise. The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy:
- Administrivia.Zero Context Example: The number 42 is an in-universe use of the trope. Since there's no question, there's no context. Without knowing what the question is there's no possible way to know what "42" actually means.
openPlayer turned enemy?
Is there a trope where a player character/party member has to be fought? Not like a Heel–Face Turn where it's for the rest of the game, but it's only for one or two battles and then you have control of them again. An example that comes to mind is in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story where you have to fight Bowser out of the blue in the middle of the story.
openA Question
Is there a trope for a moral avenger type of character such as Solomon Kane or the Shadow?
openArtifact from Early Installment Weirdness Anime
Cells at Work!, as a semi-Edutainment Show, is mostly accurate about how the body works. However, it is clear the author initially used one single personification for all the leucocytes (white blood cells), but eventually decided on having separate personifications for different types of white blood cells. The original pan-leucocyte personification is eventually "clarified" as a neutrophil, the most numerous type of leucocyte.
This is why these Neutrophil's design remains elements more appropriate for a pan-leucocyte personification:
- It is the only cell personification with a white Color Motif, even among leococytes.
- It's the only leococyte with the words "White Blood Cell" on their uniform, and is the only leucocyte referred by other cells as "White Blood Cell."
This is an artifact from an Early-Installment Weirdness. But is there a trope for it?
Edited by SamCurtopenThat moment when...
Someone little-known outside of legend suddenly shows up, and proves to be just as badass as they say.
openJust Doing a Job
Alice: "Are you telling me you rigged the election to get Hitler elected chancellor?" Bob: "My job is to make sure history keeps on track, Alice. These things happen."

What trope would Heart Of Gold be?
'Cause it's not a trope, but a Fanfic name, but used like one.
Only now, it gets Redlinked, 'cause non-pages that are valid in other namespaces, do that now.
Is it Nice Guy, or something else?
openStereotype Power Gag
People of a country have a clearly abnormal or even Reality Warping power that is explained solely by them having grown up in a certain country, almost always tied to a stereotype of that country. Any attempt at pointing out the non-logic of this is likely to be greeted with a blank stare and some variation on "I'm a [country]-an". For example, Americans who never run out of ammo, Australians who have acid blood and can squirt it from their eyes, a Brit who can face an Eldritch Abomination without the slightest damage to his mind, etc.
In this case, there's a small earthquake strong enough to knock glasses off shelves. Every character but two runs for cover, who not only are able to sense it coming and can tell it's not big enough to warrant going for cover, they even argue with each other over whether it was a 4.11 or 4.12 in magnitude. When the rest of the cast asks how they're able to gauge the quake's magnitude, one say's he's Californian, the other from Tokyo, clearly this is supposed to be enough to answer the question (two areas known for seismic activity, but not so often that residents are living seismographs).
Edited by Chabal2openMecha pilot freaks out in the cockpit Anime
Title. Basically any mecha anime or other work where the pilot of a mecha experiences a mental breakdown, or any other sort of extreme psychical/mental trauma and usually serves as a means to build character.
openSay it Like a Logo
Basically when a character says a name and it's written like a logo. Usually in comics.
openWandering the Earth with Letters
1. A protagonist wakes up in a random location (amnesia optional) with a (letter, text, other form of note) instructing them to (kill someone, deliver a package, paint a wall) and a (bag, briefcase, dufflebag) containing whatever they might need for the task. After the task is completed they lose consciousness and wake up in the next location. I found a page for general teleportation plot devices, but nothing where the 'teleportation' is tied specifically to a task to be completed.
2. This protagonist has no choice in the matter (i.e. if they attempt to defy the instructions they will be (incapacitated, killed, brainwashed)) but they have been promised a reward and are not entirely unwilling to do as the notes say, even perhaps joining forces with whoever is sending the notes afterwards.
openNo Title Film
What is the name of the Trope where somebody theatrically calls out to influence the perceptions of people around them?
An example is in the film Billy Madison where Adam Sandler is in the chemistry class with a girl. After being rebuffed by her, he theatrically yells out, "NO I WILL NOT MAKE OUT WITH YOU!"
Another example would be when cops beat somebody while yelling out "STOP RESISTING" over and over at the same time to manipulate the impressions of bystanders.
Another good example is from a Boondocks episode when the two white guys are robbing the convenience store.
openRespected but not liked
A higher-up notices that that while people do respect him (or at least his authority, social position, etc.), they don't like him, and follow his orders because they have to rather than because they want to. Often has a subordinate in the opposite situation: people genuinely like him, and even his social superiors willingly spend more time with the subordinate that the higher-up.
Is there an index for tropes whose page images are just Visual Pun s?
