Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Some of these pages (like Fox News Liberal) probably shouldn't even have quotes referring to real life issues given they're rightfully NRLEP. I agree this is very iffy.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. There is also this quote on Condescending Compassion:
They also added quotes to Acceptable Ethnic Targets that say that nowadays most racism is against white people:
Edit: And this on Utopia Justifies the Means:
Okay yeah this definitely ROCEJ breaking. ''Especially those ^ above.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."They are still adding new questionable examples (about one every few minutes). Is there something quick that can be done?
I've alerted Septimus and Berrenta via PM since they're on a spree right now.
Edit: They just added another one to UsefulNotes.Third World. I've sent them SkyCat32's custom ROCEJ notifier.
2nd edit: They even made an edit to Laconic.Con Man. Don't think I need to explain the issue there.
Edited by STARCRUSHER99Yeah, I think this might end up being one of those things where we have to purge any entry this troper's ever touched.
In particular, quotes. But this makes me have zero trust for their other edits as well.
From Flawless Token:
It doesn't even describe the trope. Real people aren't "tokens".
I can't zap it since I'm on mobile, tho.
Don't understand people like this. Life must be so dull when all you care for is politics.
Edited by WarJay77 Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSuspended them.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAlright, we've got an outright homophobia alert here - gotta love when people call those who accept homosexuality brainwashed.
↑ Ah bless you Septimus, but I gotta ask - any crossover with banned user Leiks? They both edited SpongeBob recap pages and stuff related to DC Comics
Edited by STARCRUSHER99I've started cleaning up their crap. Like I said, I'm taking a "hard reset" line on this one, if there are no objections.
EDIT: I got through maybe a sixth of their edit history so far, but I need to take a break before I worsen my carpal tunnel.
Also, do admins have access to a wider edit history? Like I said, given the amount of edits they've made in such a short time, I doubt that the current edit history actually covers all the ones we should look out for.
Edited by NubianSatyressI remember seeing another Sowell quote somewhere last night, but can't remember where.
By now, it should be clear to all except the most dense of us that sheep are secretly conspiring to kill us all and steal our pants.^^^ I don't think it's related to Leiks' editing patterns as they didn't have any political wonks, and these aren't even the same pages Leiks edited, nor were they adding the same kind of tropes. SpongeBob and DC are just already popular pages.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I did it myself
They also added a quotes page for Useful Notes/Socialism. From, again, Thomas Sowell.
Uh...
[huff...puff...wheeze...]
....Okay. I just spent (looks at clock: "Jesus Christ HOW many?") hours cleaning up the INSANE number of shoehorned and ridiculously-biased edits this guy has made. And, even with help from Tropers.Lord Gro and Tropers.STARCRUSHER99 (thank you)....I'm barely even halfway done.
If I get a chance either before or after work tomorrow, I'll continue. But for right now, I am D-U-N.
Edited by NubianSatyressWelp, if they're a ban evader, then I can take it to the BERT. I'll wait for confirmation first, but either way it's looking like full reversion is probably in order.
↓ I thought that was saying that they ban evaded following their suspension, not that they themselves were a ban evader already
↓ ↓ ↓ That's what I assumed, hence why I'm waiting for the go-ahead to officially take it to the thread.
Edited by STARCRUSHER99Gonna have to keep an eye on...well...anything that could be somewhat political, I guess.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure Pureness^^^ I don't think there's confirmation that they were already ban-evading, but that they ban evaded twice after the first time (they're a fast little dude, aren't they?). So no need to revert the bobby edits on that principle alone unless it comes out that account was also ban evading.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Which pages are the ones where they ban-evaded?
Update: I think I've cleaned up most of their egregious entries.
From what I can tell, it seems that bobby4ize played a Long Game — their early edits (the ones I see on the page anyway) were partial towards adding examples or quotes from specific sources (for example, the works of Robert A. Heinlein) but were usually relevant and applicable to the context.
Slowly but surely, they began adding more and more "questionable" entries. Then, a couple of months ago, they just began quoting any conservative/libertarian that they liked on any page they could get away with.
That makes checking their earlier entries more difficult, because it's often hard to draw the line between "The quote is expressing an opinion, but it's relevant" and "The quote may be 'relevant', but it's clear this is meant to push a narrative."
I spent over an hour cleaning today. We have combed through all the Quotes/ subpages now (I didn't check the other edits on work pages, or trope examples on trope pages).
There are still bobby4ize quotes which I haven't removed because they seem at least to fit the trope and appear unproblematic as far as I can tell (though they are not very good either). I don't know what is the protocol here; now that bobby4ize is banned, do we remove everything on principle? I'll let you decide that.
Anyway, the pages in question are the following:
- Quotes.Corrupt Corporate Executive
- Quotes.Encyclopaedic Knowledge
- Quotes.Ignorant Of Their Own Ignorance
- Quotes.Love Tropes
- Quotes.Tame His Anger
- Quotes.Tough Love
- Quotes.We All Die Someday
- Index of Solutions
"Remove everything on principle" is just for ban evaders. Until we get confirmation that this particular account was ban evading (which we don't have yet), they can stay if they're appropriate enough.
^^ Yeah, those were the ones I left alone as well.
I'd say we can keep the acceptable entries. It's wrong to throw out the baby with the bathwater, no matter how much money it saves you in food costs.
This can be taken to BERT; we've confirmed that they were a sock of ~slordoshoes. The two additional attempts they made at ban-evasion weren't able to edit the wiki at all before they were caught.

Tropers.bobby4ize has been entry-pimping quotes by infamous Black Conserative/Libertarian Thomas Sowell, conservative talk-show host Sean Hannity, conservative radio host Neal Boortz and many, MANY others.. Based on their edit history, the pimping has been going on for weeks and they've already got dozens of examples.
The thing is, some of their entries don't seem that bad — such as this one for Tall Poppy Syndrome. It illustrates the trope well enough. Also, there's this example on Society Marches On which breaks away from his other entries by being somewhat progressive.
But then we have entries like these:
Taken from the quotes page for Fox News Liberal.
Taken from the quotes page for DidntThinkThisThrough.
Taken from Playing The Victim Card
Taken from the quotes page for Political Correctness Gone Mad
You get the idea by now.
Also, there are several other quotes which have been added to main pages, such as the one on UsefulNotes.Capitalism which demonstrate a subtle bias (especially when you remember the source is a hard-nose free market libertarian).
Like I said, they have been at this for a long, long time, and I doubt that their edit history actually goes back far enough to catch them all.
