Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
For some reason this ATT is not linking.
Rawr.If you will recall, SkyCat, during our first and only conversation, I removed the RL material from the quotes page you linked to (here and on the forums) earlier. It occured to me that we might want to cut such quotes from any tropes marked "no real life examples." However it doesn't pay to make sweeping changes, for good or ill, without notifying the community. At least in my experience.
You misinterpret my experience with the wiki. I participate in a few wikis. I have also opened multiple ATT threads, and I only got my avatar working this week. So I don't know if I'm "suspiciously" familiar with it.
That's the long and short of it. I should add that I edited the wrestling article once, iirc. Some of the folders had hyphens (-), and others em dashes (—). I admit, I am 'anal retentative when it comes to categorizing and organizing.
(Edited for proofreading)
Edited by taylorswiftscatI notified the respective threads about the RL quote sections already.
I am personally unfamiliar with johnnyfog, so I wouldn't necessarily be able to tell if he had an active sock here or not.
Rawr.Johnnyfog's general MO was disruptive edits on wrestling and quotes pages. Given that, the lack of subtlety ban evaders are generally known for, and the fact at least one other person made this connection previously, I'd say there's reason to look closer at the edits at play here.
I gather that this ban evader added quotes that bashed the tropes in question. Which I agree is unacceptable. At the very least they should be added to YMMV topics. I myself have removed a few; off the top of my head, the cyberpunk article had a long winded quote from Yahtzee Croshaw (who I like), whining about how predictable the genre is, as if that was a fresh observation in itself. It wasn't a good look for him, or the wiki, so it was cut. There are too many horses in westerns!
I can go into the other edits in detail, if you care to. Most happened during a week-long Wiki Walk in which I came across reams of disorganized pages with misapplied tropes.
Edited by taylorswiftscatToo many parallels at this point. Taking action.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Confirmed. Please revert edits.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. They did a lot of edits on Characters.Final Fantasy V over a long period of time and I don't think I can clean everything up by myself. A mod revert is probably out of the question between the time length and other people touching the page.
Edited by Karxrida If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? Also there's a good chance they're going to come back again, if this cryptic reference is anything to go by.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Johnny is nothing if not persistent, I guess.
Well...how do we go about this cleanup?
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThey've made it clear they'll never give up ban evading. So... they just continue to get banned. Sucks, but eh.
And good question. It shouldn't be too hard to revert every single quote they changed. Maybe just go from A-to-Z?
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.^^^^ Yeah, no kidding. With over 1000 edits, he pretty much wrote that entire page by himself. He is also ridiculously prolific, as his edit history only goes back to December 10th.
Edit: I reverted his edits in Replacement Scrappy.
Edited by TantaMontyHis edits to the FFV page go all the way back to July of this year. Surprised he managed to lay low for that long.
You know what, screw it. If it's possible, I'm requesting a revert of Characters.Final Fantasy V to the July 16 version. That particular page has too much of his handwriting all over it for a manual fix.
Edited by Karxrida If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I first had problems with him adding a ton of... well, I guess it's technically not Walkthrough Mode, but it's still overly detailed "here's the only correct way you're supposed to play this game"-type strategy guide info to Characters.Final Fantasy I, and I don't think I ever fixed all of it, so that needs to be looked at as well.
Edited by SeracCharacters.Final Fantasy I has 757 edits, about 500 are his, and my CTRL+F command tells me he did most of the recent editing after making that first change. Might also be worth a mod revert.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Yikes. We might want a short-term projects thread.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessDefinitely. Even if we end up relying on a bunch of mod reverts he's been around unchallenged for half a year and we need to sift through everything he's touched. Some of the pages he hasn't gone too crazy in can also probably be worked on manually.
Edited by Karxrida If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Is there a Final Fantasy Cleanup?
Rawr.I don't think so, and there are probably other pages he's altered.
Do mods have access to edit history past what's shown on troper pages? We could really use a list.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Yeah, the cleanup thread we need is a "Johnnyfog Cleanup", not a work-page specific one.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessHonestly, with how far back this goes, it might be a Long-Term Project. Besides that, cleaning up any and all newer edits.
It'd also make it very easy to catch him more reliably due to the obvious bad quotes he keeps doing? Since more people will be on it, if you will.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.Excuse me a minute...
I'll start the thread. I think it would be worthwhile to have a project for reverting the edits of serial ban evaders in general.
Edited by SkyCat32 Rawr.I can help with cleaning up the FFV page, since I'm familiar with the canon and gameplay things.
Reposting from here.
Taylorswiftscat edited the quotes page for replacement scrappy, just as one of johnnyfog's socks did, along with johnny himself. They also edited a bunch of quotes pages and the WCW page.
They do seem suspiciously familiar with the wiki for a newcomer, based on my interactions with them.
