Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Guardians of the Galaxy has a similar issue.
All the Ant-Man subpages you mentioned are split into folders or headers separating the comics and film, so I don't see how it's confusing.
Keet cleanupIt seems odd that the comics and films examples have to share the same subpage.
It was going to happen as a result of the upcoming comics cleanup project; if you want to do it ahead of time, feel free to move to Ant Man 2015. Or, more likely, request it from a mod/admin so we can keep page history.
^^ You've said a lot about this topic, but some tropers do find it confusing or annoying. Perhaps take this to Wiki Talk instead of the discussion inevitably spreading over multiple ATT threads?
Edited by RallyBot2Yeah, I think it's time for an official wiki talk thread.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessJust out of curiosity, was this query started because of the previous ATT and possibly a want to take advantage of it shaking up people's opinions? Coming literally the next day after it and bringing up a longstanding page can't be a coincidence. A Wiki Talk thread could work, I suppose, though someone have to make an OP showing both viewpoints to at least some extent.
Edited by Piterpicher Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)I think disambiguating to avoid subpage collision is one thing when it it to differentiate two completely unrelated works who just happen to have the same title, but it's another thing entirely when they are adaptations from the same franchise. In this case, having folders in the subpages is perfectly acceptable.
Actually no, what happened was I wanted to see if I could clean up the Nightmare Fuel page since I'm involved in the cleanup for that, and recently ran some other MCU pages through a check, but when I got to the page for Ant-Man I realized I'd have to sift through a lot of material I wouldn't have had any context for and that would impede my ability to clear out bad examples. I did follow the YMMV page back in the past but there was a point at which they stopped updating for the movie and mixed in comic book edits, and since I don't read the comics it stopped being useful to pay attention.
Shared namespaces for works can and remain useful sometimes, but not if one or more sub-folders has a ton of entries to go through. Think back to the time when The Avengers (1960s) and The Avengers (2012) shared a namespace; the former got one or two entries in the YMMV page while the latter ended up being over ten times as large, making it a pain for fans of the former who don't want to bother looking through the latter, or fans of the latter who don't want to mistakenly edit the former. Were we talking about Ant-Man comics versus an Ant-Man cartoon series or book, it'd be one thing, but movies in particular benefit from getting unique entries, especially since it's possible for them to get hit with Names The Same.
Edited by AlleyOopIf you do end up moving the film page, I'd like to suggest that since there are two Ant-Man movies so far, and will likely be a third, maybe we should have Film.Ant Man MCU as the film franchise page.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I think we used to but using the year of release seems to be the most effective system so far to avoid confusion, both for films and video games.
I'm referring to making Film.Ant Man MCU as a film franchise page for Film.Ant Man 2015, Film.Ant Man And The Wasp, and Film.Ant Man Whatever.
Edited by crazysamaritan Link to TRS threads in project mode here. You mean, as a general landing page? In that case we can re-tool the Ant-Man page into a synopsis page and migrate entries relating specifically to the first film (which as it currently stands is most of them) onto Ant Man 2015, while the subpages can be trimmed down to a more manageable listing of film franchise-universal tropes, similarly to what's being done with Captain America.
Edited by AlleyOopShould Guardians of the Galaxy also be split?
Considering how many subpages feature an overlap, and how long the lists of movie entries are (and in cases where the comic books also get a lot of entries, we're dealing with a page that's twice as long as one for a single work), I think it's a good idea.
Any idea how I can flag down one of the mods specifically to migrate namespaces this way, as opposed to just manually transporting them myself (and thus losing out on the edit histories)?
^ I'm not sure what you mean by migrating namespaces, but you can try asking in the Locked Pages thread if you need a page moved along with its history.

Been thinking we should probably split Ant-Man page off from the Ant-Man. A lot of the pages refer specifically to the film and not the comics, and other works pages like the YMMV, Nightmare Fuel, and Awesome Moments share entries from both the comics and films. Makes reading through them more than a little clunky.
