Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Less Disturbing in Context is labeled as NRLEP.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanupbut two are specifically reactions to in-game mechanics and one is a website
also they were removed under 'subreddit pimping' and not 'is an IRL example'
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadWell, this edit reason is at least not valid.
I'm not confident how Less Disturbing in Context is supposed to work being both Audience Reactions and No Real Life Examples, Please!.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupYeah, it's a bit sticky because audience reactions are always to a degree going to be "real life" in a way. But that's a discussion for a different time (though any efforts we've had to try and figure these things out always stops before we get anywhere).
IDK if I'd say that they're removing RL examples here (since again the line is blurry) but they're seemingly biased deletions nonetheless.
Edited by WarJay77 Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThen, let's figure if at least these examples should be put back. Two of them are "game produces random events that can sometimes sound disturbing" and there's a reddit thread about them" and about an entire subreddit that would fit the trope.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupTo be honest, I have no idea what makes a valid example of this or not since it feels less like a legit reaction trope and more like an easy way to make a joke out of a scene. So IDK if those examples were valid.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure Purenessnot really a joke; ive played crusader kings and dwarf fortress and those memes get to the point that theyre included in the actual games
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadI probably used the wrong wording; I'm just trying to articulate that I have no idea how this manifests as an actual audience reaction. If you say they're valid I'll trust that.
Edited by WarJay77 Current Project: Incorruptible Pure Purenessahh no worries, i just wasnt sure. i can provide screenshots if needed. but do i need anything else or any other consensus to ask for a restore?
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're saddoubleposting, but they did something similar on Land Down Under by claiming web original links are an attempt to bypass NLREP
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadEugh, yeah that's not great.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure Purenessis it okay to ask for a mod restore on both?
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadOf the Land Down Under examples, the first one violates Examples Are Not General and the second is a real-life example on a NRL page. The edit reason may be poorly written but the deletion seems valid.
how does the first one violate general examples? does it need specific links to posts to prove it?
the second is a meme
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadPossibly related, but I'm making notice of what happened here and here for future reference.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupLil' bump. Going through their edits, I see this same sort of thing on pages like Golden Mean Fallacy, Bridezilla, and Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?. There may be an argument to have about whether internet posts count as RL or not, but as far as I know there's no much policy or anything of that sort.
The edit reasons aren't as bad, but I still don't think it's fair to claim that troping subreddits or other online content is "trying to trope RL".
Edited by WarJay77 Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessNormally I'd say to send a notifier for unilateral changes, but with this many edits with this Single-Issue Wonk, I don't think that's enough, so suspended.
Go ahead and revert any invalid removals, and feel free to cite this post.
Edit: Suspended from Projects as well due to these unilateral removals apparently being an attempt to bypass the Real Life cleanup thread.
Edited by GastonRabbit Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
hello
now, reddit may be a hellhole of a site (anyone remember violentacrez) but i noticed Miss Conduct was removing examples that contained any link or even reference to Reddit in Less Disturbing in Context with "removing Subreddit pimping"
im not a regular Dwarf Fortress or Crusader Kings fan but i can confirm that the examples removed simply mentioned a subreddit; there are other websites that show similar 'extremely weird gameplay example that is less bad in context" but i dont think we have a rule against "Subreddit pimping"
i am also not sure if Less Disturbing in Context was brought to the attention of the No Real Life Examples Please thread; there have been previous issues with MissConduct trying to remove any kind of IRL example brought up in the NRLEP thread for her own reasons
is it okay to restore?
