While both don't mention an edit reason, I think TLD probably changed it to make it sound more neutral.

Technically not an edit war yet, unless Dravencour was the one who put it in pre-2010.

I agree that the proposal by TLD is way better than the current. Try seeking feedback in the Laconic Description Improvement thread in the forums.

TLD's the same guy who edit warred over Laconic.Music 2021. Nice that they learned something from the ATT thread but they could stand to put an edit reason at least.

EDIT: Sent The Living Drawing an edit reason notifier.

I've restored TLD's version and linked this ATT in the edit reason.

Maybe we should add it to the list of locked Laconics due to the subject's Flame Bait nature combined with the ease of sneaking in potshots and ROCEJ violations inherent in the Laconic format? Precedent for this idea exists with the permalock on Laconic.Wikipedia, by the way.

While TLD's Laconic is better, I don't think it's specific enough. "Abusing their power" can mean many things, like taking bribes.

I think it should be "Police officers exerting excessive force on arrestees".

"Police officers exerting excessive force on arrestees" - possibly overly specific as it's often directed at people they aren't arresting? How about ""Police officers exerting excessive force on civilians"?

^ This might seem like a nitpick, but police officers are civilians, because they are not members of the military.

^ Every dictionary definition and even The Other Wiki includes "Not in the police force" as part of the definition of civilian.

It's a grey area. Police are public servants, and sometimes that is used to denote if someone is a citizen or part of the government. Within the context, it should be clear that civilian is intended to mean "not part of the police", rather than "not part of the military".

But why is it essential that the targets of police brutality are not themselves police officers? The reason why when discussing the military we talk about violence "against civilians" is because there are non-civilians ("enemy combatants") who are legitimate targets of violence. That doesn’t exist for police, all violence, legitimate and not will be "on civilians", except in very rare cases. Using the term here seems to be confusing the military (where violence being "on civilians" has a meaning) with the police (where it doesn't).

Police call non-police "civilians". The terminology already exists.

Or we could just Take a Third Option and say "Police officers exerting excessive force."

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
