What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

Apparently since last year there have been new books in the Basil of Baker Street series. Or in America better known by the movie, "The Great Mouse Detective". A new author is making the books, since its original one died.
Apparently Sans was announced for Smash Ultimate.

It's a bit tragic that my most desired character didn't join in, but it's understandable: Not EVERYONE can be here after all.
The father of Satoru Iwata opposed his son's idea of choosing to study electronics (and eventually gaming design). Iwata says that the two didn't talk to each other during a year. Ouch.

I already love that song but knowing a (former because History unfortunately disbanded in 2017) member of one of my favourite underrated groups worked on it? All of my yes. History deserved so much better I'm still salty

Peace is the only battle worth waging.Nintendo Switches don't require being hooked up online to get firmware updates. All you need is a game. It contains the updates itself.
Edit:
I'm pretty sure the 3DS requires internet access to update certain games,

PSP does that too, and I think so did the 3DS.
I imagine many consoles built with firmware-updating in mind have this feature, since after all, not everyone has easy internet access.

Google Books allows you to preview a lot of books and read public-domain books. That's a neat feature. I thought it was a paid service.
Feral and stray dogs leave their mother (or are kicked out by their mother) between four and six months. This is much younger than gray wolves, who leave between 1 and 2 years. I'm surprised that dogs leave so young. They are still puppies at that age.

This isn't exactly recent, but it took an embarrassing amount of time to figure out so I'm counting it as in the correct spirit
"Duty Roulette: Leveling" in Final Fantasy XIV isn't "the roulette you queue into for the purpose of leveling up", it's "the roulette filled with leveling content (i.e. content which has never been endgame)".
The fact that it gives the second-highest EXP reward is unrelated.
