Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Yeah, Spinel doesn’t count. Although, consider her backstory and personality, i’m actually really glad they chose to redeem her, I felt really bad for her. Damn it, Pink, stop causing problems for everyone else with your mistakes.

Oh, and it’s been two weeks since the final episodes of Lion Guard aired on Disney Now, so we can discuss that too. As we discussed two weeks after the premier, Scar keeps, and will always keep, especially since the venom had no effect on his actions, and that he was always a ruthless bastard from the start. As for the rest of the season, it does get quite dark, especially in the long live the Queen episode where a character dies from old age ON SCREEN, yeah Disney Junior went there, but fortunately, Kion is able to recover from the venom, and not give in to his hatred like Scar did, and even falls in love with the leader of the Night Pride, Rani, which is honestly cute i gotta say. By the time the Lion Guard returns to the Pride Lands, the events of Lion King 2 had already passed with Zira dead, Kiara and Kovu being the future Queen and King of the Pride Lands, and Vitani being the leader of her own Lion Guard. Kion and the rest of his lion guard ultimately decide to selflessly give their roles as members of the guard to Vitani and her guard, which allows Kion to fully master the Roar of the Elders, and the series ends with Kion marrying Rani and becoming the king of the tree of life, bring the series to a honestly satisfying conclusion.

As for any other CM keepers, besides Scar himself, who still keeps, no one else counts. The Big Bad Ensemble consists of Makucha, Chuluun, Oru, and Mama Binturong, the latter of which tries to snatch the Big Bad role upon joining the group, but the show makes it clear that Makucha still runs the show here. Their goal is take over the tree of life for all 4 of them, devour the rare specifics for the first three, and for Binturong, getting revenge on Bunga for ruining her Tuilza collection. Their assaults on the Tree of Life, which includes attacking a female tiger and her cubs, are ultimately foiled by the Lion Guard and the Night Pride, those there are quite a few close calls. Their most dangerous assault comes in their final appearance in the Triumph of the Roar episode, where Binturong brings back up in the form of her minions, Makucha’s two leopard lackeys, and Oro’s two dragon lackeys. They then proceed to attack the Tree of Life while Kion and Rani are away for the time being, not that they know that of course, and locks up the Night Pride and Makini in the Tree to prevent them from interfering with devouring the rare animals, much to Binturong’a sadistic glee, and the Lion Guard are forced to fight them on their own. Fortunately, Kion, having learned more of the roar thanks to Askari, the leader of the very first lion guard, returns with Rani and Bunga, and with the his newfound powers from the Roar, he is able to help the Lion Guard defeat the villains, and free the Night Pride and Makini from the tree. Kion, to reassure that the villains never come back to the tree of life again, uses the Roar to create a tornado that drags the villains out of the Tree of Life, never to be seen again. Their ultimate fates of this are unknown, but regardless, their attempts of taking over the tree of life were finally brought to a end. As I mentioned, none of the Big Bad Ensemble count like Scar does, due to the fact Scar easily out heinousnesses each and every one of them, and while they try to eat cubs at one point, the 4 are ultimately not as vile as Scar by the time of their final appearance, also each and every single one of Binturong’s defeats are pretty comedic with most of them involve her being farted on by Bunga, being a honey badger and all, much to her dismay. So yeah, Scar remains as the only keeper of the Lion King series, no big surprise there. I honestly say the series ended on a high note, but that’s just me saying. Oh, and one more thing......

Long Live The King.

None of the Lion Guard villains count aside from Scar. Mama Binturong seemed like she was edging, but she has since been consistently portrayed as a joke. The others are just generic bullies who go to ridiculous pains to hunt in an area protected by two groups over and over again; if their lack of ambition and cruelty doesn't disqualify them then the sheer Narm of that situation will.

Another week, another EP.

What Is the Work?

Robotrix is a 1991 Hong Kong action film.

Detective Selina Lam was a woman on the force who was unceremoniously killed by a serial killer… who's actually a robot with the memories of a deranged scientist. So the police and some scientists decided that the best strategy to take down this killer is to take Selina’s memories and transplant them into a kickass android. Wow, it’s like a certain other film about a robot police officer. Anyway, Selina, along with her boyfriend Joe and his perverted fat friend Tony, must take down this killer before his plan is complete.

Who Is he?

Ryuichi Yamamoto is a Japanese robot manufacturer who loves nothing more than killing and pleasing himself.

What has he done?

Previously a scientist who wanted to work for a powerful Shiek on his robot legion, Yamamoto was turned down by the Shiek after he went too far in Japan with his robotics, to the point where the Japanese government put a restraining order on him that prevented him from continuing his research. Naturally, Yamamoto’s pissed and promised the Shiek revenge, hiding underground. Transferring his mind into the body of a powerful android, Yamamoto makes a threat video promising the Shiek the protection of his son should he be allowed to work on his robots, committing seppuku on camera to complete the thought transfer process.

When the Shiek’s son, the unnamed Prince, is bathing with his harem, Yamamoto unleashes a knockout gas into the area that causes everyone to pass out. Yamamoto arrives and kidnaps the Prince. When Selina finds him carrying the Prince away, Yamamoto shoots her in the chest as she tries to get her gun out, plopping his threat VHS tape on her corpse. Later on, Yamamoto’s at a bar (which plays music a little too similar to Immigrant Song) fondling a woman for money. When the woman’s boyfriend is outraged at his behavior, Yamamoto gives him the Houdini special by punching him so hard in the stomach, that he dies. After this Yamamoto goes on a killing spree, apparently killing some prostitutes offscreen.

When the newly rebuilt Selina and the gang show up at a nightclub hoping to capture Yamamoto, Yamamoto appears behind Selina while she’s in the bathroom and tries to grab her (it’s implied throughout the movie that Yamamoto’s also a rapist). Selina breaks free from his grasp and chases him throughout the vicinity, Yamamoto shooting two innocents (he was trying to aim for Selina and her robot partner Anna, but he couldn’t care about the casualties). Yamamoto makes a getaway, meeting up with the Shiek’s men to discuss his exchange plan. One of Joe’s spies is caught by Yamamoto and beaten to death by him, Yamamoto even stomping his corpse for good measure.

The next day, three dudes in white (who I guess have ties to the Shiek) arrive at Yamamoto’s base to collect payment. Yamamoto presents them with a basket full of… nothing. Yamamoto kills one guy by ripping his head off with the basket, kills another guy by fisting his stomach, and kicks a rock at the third guy trying to run away’s head. Yamamoto is ambushed by Selina and loses an arm in the process. Later that night, with the Prince begging to be released, Yamamoto decides to drill his leg and tell the Shiek that he’ll drill more holes in his kid unless he starts working on the project. The next day, Yamamoto ambushes our heroes in a car and kills Tony, even running over his rag doll corpse for good measure.

That night, Yamamoto sneaks into a hospital to kill Selina, killing a cop by throwing a knife into his mouth. But, it’s all a trap, and Yamamoto’s cornered by the cops. Yamamoto tries to kill them, but he’s incapacitated and decapitated. His head is used to tell the police where the Prince is located, and they blindly believe him. Yamamoto has his body place his head back on, and tries to rape Anna while the gang are gone. The gang return, Yamamoto fights them, and kills Selina (again) by drilling a hole in the exact same place where she was shot. How poetic. So Yamamoto escapes, but now everybody knows where his hideout’s located (the junkyard) because of plot convenience. They follow him to his base, where Yamamoto gets crushed by a large container and dies. The End.

Redeeming Qualities?

Nope.

Heinousness?

Yamamoto’s the only real villain of the story, a serial killer and implied rapist who was bad even before he transferred his memories over into that robot.

Conclusion

Yes, yes, and yes.

Alright...I just finished reading Godzilla Oblivion comic to have a Godzilla keeper and special thanks to ACW on this one. But uh...I'm not sure if this Ghidorah counts at all. Probably because sentience issues that and due to someone's recklessness on releasing the monsters to the world...Yeah.

I’ve been waiting to hit this one for a while now...it’s another Ultra series villain.

Who is he? Alien Empera, also called The Emperor. His true given name was never revealed. He was the main villain of the Ultra series Showa continuity and due to retcons, Greater Scope Villain of the franchise until Belial was introduced.

What has he done?

In the beginning, Alien Empera was the last of his kind, a race of beings that were wiped out by their sun being extinguished. He was able to survive by accessing the power of darkness. This is simply used to explain how he came to be, and not as anything sympathetic. In the earlier Showa-era shows, due to retcon issues, Empera is mostly hidden in the background, but he is later revealed to have started a planetary war and at least one invasion of the Land of Light. He is alluded to, but hides behind his army. Ultraman Mebius shows how he fought Ultra Father, and lost that duel and retreated.

In the stageshows, Alien Empera is usually shown as being a charismatic leader of other Ultra villains when Belial is not present. He allies with Evil Tiga and Juda, along with Juda. At one point, in a joke stageshow, he’s even dating fellow final boss Zogu.

That said, later stageshows retcon this out, showing him to be far more villainous than first shown. In a recent show, which is canon to Ultraman Mebius, Alien Empera time travels an an attempt to wipe out all his enemies, especially Father of Ultra, at their weakest. Ultraman Zero and Ultraman Mebius were able to stop him, and due to time travel nonsense return him to the present to answer for his crimes. The fight is long and grueling, and Empera takes great pleasure in torturing Zero, Mebius and Ken, while trying to convince Belial to betray Ken. the good guys win, thanks to a last ditch effort from Belial. However, Empera’s plan nearly succeeds in wiping out the old timeline and replacing it with one where he’s killed Father of Ultra, now the much weaker Ultraman Ken, and Belial, before his own fall into evil. Belial is able to save Ken (there’s some irony) and beat Empera almost to death, but Empera explodes. That said, he’s also shown fleeing, and survives into the present day.

In the present day, Empera stages a long campaign against Earth. The reason all the Ultra kaiju and aliens keep coming to Earth? It’s his fault. He was the one who placed the Space-Time Wave (or emitter, translations here vary) that brought them here. As he knows how much the Ultras care for humans, he aims to blot out the Earth’s sun and wipe out humanity just to spite the Ultras. He’s the one who sent Bogar and a horde of other kaiju to invade Earth. The robot invasions were mostly his doing as well. Due to the way the portals Empera opened work, he’s partially responsible for the independent villains showing up as well. Empera resurrected Yapool as one of his own Four Heavenly Kings and sets him loose on Earth more than once. Tasking them with destroying Ultraman Mebius, he directs them, along with his own robotic soldiers, in destroying the Earth, and they come close several times on his orders.

But he cares nothing for them and sees them as expendable pawns. Alien Mefilas, the last King, finds this out the hard way when he tries to flee Earth. Empera casually kills him in one shot before starting his own invasion of Earth.

The Emperor casually destroys most of Tokyo in an initial assault, before tearing apart the Earth Defense forces with great glee. Empera also sets his Inpeliazers to He kills Mebius’s old rival Zamushar, and beats both Mebius and Hikari almost to death, along with Hikari’s first host. With them out of the way, he resumes trying to blot out Earth’s sun, with the Ultra Warriors trying their hardest to reverse the process. They’re resurrected later, thanks to the Power of Friendship, but the fact remains. Things get so bad that Zoffy is called in, and working with Mebius and Hikari’s fusion form, they’re able to finally destroy the Emperor before he can finish blotting out Earth’s sun.

The Emperor goes out with a note of respect, but notably NOT regret, sympathy or apology. He’s simply impressed they were able to kill him.

While dead, it’s revealed he set up at least two backup plans. One, a giant alien robot named Mecha-Zam, was a sentient being Empera built specifically to be his backup body. Mecha-Zam is forced to commit suicide to prevent the Emperor’s return...which means Empera, again, built a fully sentient robot to essentially kill it and use it as his new vessel.

The other, Armored Darkness, was a living suit of armor Empera designed to be a trap. Any Ultra who wore it became its new puppet and power source. The trapped Ultra is stuck in an And I Must Scream state, with both Ultraseven and Ultraman Hikari falling prey to it at various points. The armor’s only directive without Empera being present is to destroy Earth, and it comes very close.

Redeeming qualities?

None. Empera does not care about anyone but himself. His death scene is played not for sympathy, but more of a “Wow, I can’t believe you actually pulled this off!” like other CM examples such as Kid Icarus’s Hades or fellow Ultra villain Belial. His time travel scheme would have destroyed everything including his original empire, by his own admission, and his own forces are expendable to him as well.

Heinous standard?

Until Belial came along, Empera WAS the Heinous standard. He was one of the few villains to pull off invading the Land of Light and nearly succeed in destroying the place. He had a hand in a good chunk of the Showa continuities’ woes, due to the Space Time Wave, and his time travel scheme would have destroyed everything in a much more permanent way if Zero and Mebius hadn’t stopped him. Unlike most Ultra villains before him he came very close to destroying the planet Earth several times, and had greater resources than any villain besides Belial.

So yeah, I think he’s a keeper.
