Wistoria is pretty good but it relies on a ton of double meaning magibabble. I fear for the subtitler's health if it gets picked up by Crunchyroll. Ether that or there's going to be a ton of title card pop ups during the anime.

Failure Frame is what if Arifureta was actually edgy instead of being a chuuni love-letter.

Lot to say about this one

Notable credits:

  • Bye Bye, Earth is based on a novel by Tow Ubukata, who you may remember from writing such anime Fafner in the Azure and Ghost in the Shell Arise
  • Delico's Nursery is a spinoff of a play, both of which are written by the guy that wrote the latest Touken Ranbu anime (and the play it was based on)
  • The Elusive Samurai is from the creator of Assassination Classroom and Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro
  • The Magical Girl and The Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies is from the creator of Inu × Boku SS. Also, she died while writing it (MahoAku)
  • Mayonaka Punch has the staff of the Ya Boy Kongming anime
  • While the creator of My Deer Friend Nokotan hasn't done any other manga of note, you might recognize her as the illustrator of Amane Kanata
  • No Longer Allowed In Another World is from the duo that gave us Love After World Domination. ...It's not similar
  • The Shoushimin series shares a writer with Hyouka. Which the animation studio is leaning into
  • Suicide Squad ISEKAI has an insanely stacked staff, of which the most relevant is probably having the Re: Zero guy as writer
  • Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World? comes from the same person as Our Last Crusade and God's Game We Play
  • Wistoria: Wand and Sword started as a manga written (but not drawn) by the Danmachi guy

Other information:

  • Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest is a direct sequel, not a spinoff
  • The Kinnikuman listing is more properly Kinnikuman Perfect Origin-hen. This is a direct sequel to the original Kinnikuman manga, completely ignoring the other sequels, like Kinnikuman Nisei/Ultimate Muscle
  • While the manga is localized under the name Magic Artisan Dahlia Wilts No More, the novel is called Dahlia in Bloom: Crafting a Fresh Start With Magical Tools in English-speaking territories (the manga is closer to the JP). Remains to be seen what title anime will have
  • Maougun Saikyou no Majutsushi wa Ningen Datta is going to be based on the manga, not the LN. ...This is actually fairly common, but they're not usually this open about it
  • Nanare Hananare is about cheerleading. The promotional material just doesn't make that obvious for some reason. Also, it's the brainchild of Bang Dream's main director
  • As I said last time Quality Assurance in Another World was supposed to air, it's about bug testers stuck in a VRMMO

Commentary:

  • When Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian first got delayed people were saying that it was to avoid competition with last season's heavy hitters. I sure hope that wasn't true, because wownote
  • Lotta good PVs this season. In particular, Shikanoko's is a work of art
  • I've never seen a season this lopsided before. Pretty certain a lot of those romance series are going to be duds. And I suspect the non-romance, non-action anime will overperform
  • Between VDen and Yorukura, I'm thinking no one in the anime industry actually knows how get a Live2D model rigged
  • I think we're starting to see isekai wind down— While we've still got a lot of them, they're largely non-standard this time around

[up] I won't be that sure about Nanare Hananare. While the site uses cheerleeder images, character promos made accent on esach of the girls having a different talent.

The introduction section of the website talks about cheerleading. The characters section has cheerleading versions of the character designs. Like, it's probably a character drama first and foremost, but I'd be very surprised if the main activity these girls are working at isn't cheerleading

Going to Red Cat Ramen once it airs. Read a bit of the manga.

Just when I thought director Masahiko Ohta had dropped off the face of the Earth after Onipan! flopped, he makes his triumphant return with a weird-ass Schoolgirl Series about a reality-shattering entity in the form of a girl with deer antlers.

This is gonna be the feel-weird meme-girl hit of the summer, right here.

Having read My Deer Friend Nokotan, I'm expecting it'll do at least as well as Ohta's previous hits Himouto! Umaru-chan! and Gabriel Dropout— although, while Nokotan does revolve around "kooky meme-girl" humor, tonally I found it closer to Sabagebu than either of those, with some Aho-Girl (which had the same writer, Takashi Aoshima, as all of Ohta's shows, but a different director) thrown in for good measure.

I watched the first season of Cafe Terrace after hearing it compared to Quintessential Quintuplets. I don't quite see the similarities, beyond both being harem series. It was enjoyable, if nothing too impressive, so I might watch the second season.

[up] They’re quite different. Terrace slowly develops into a self-aware harem romcom constantly poking fun at itself and the usual tropes, with the writer obviously writing by the seat of his pants. Quints is more traditional.

I'd generally thought of the typical harem series as something like We Never Learn; episodic and largely focused on comedy.

Quints wasn't the first series to do a "who's the mystery girl" plot - Strawberry 100% did it with two girls, and Nisekoi did it as one of several premises it squandered - but I did have the impression that Quints put an unusually heavy focus on serialization.

I’m interested in:

1. Delico’s nursery- I like children and handsome men

2. Elusive samurai- I might have easier time with this than the manga I think, anime looks good so far

3. Oshi no ko- already started so why not

4. Quality assurance in another world- interesting exploration of people trying to cope in a game world that still very much works like a game. Look forward to lots of casually fucked up scenarios (it’s not an edgy story by enemies but the characters will all need hella therapy by the end of it)

5. Sengoku youko - already started so why not

6. My cross dressing senpai- really nice story about dysphoria, queer relationships, parental abandonment and friendship. Manga was a bit rushed by the end so I hope the anime adds some fluff

7. Too many losing heroines- I’m just genuinely curious on how they’ll handle this, plus it looks good

I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boys

[up][up] If anything, harem comedies are an offshoot of dating sims and visual novels, in the same way isekai are an offshoot of JRPGs. An otaku grows up playing, say, Tokimeki Memorial, and then he writes a very trope-y light novel based on that kind of game. But since light novels are a non-interactive medium, he needs to make "accommodations" to slot all 15 (or however many) love interests into a single narrative. So his generic self-insert character gets dragged around by every single girl while having a borderline-neurotic fear of commitment.

If you look at something like NAKAIMO - My Little Sister is Among Them!, which predates Quintuplets by five years and also has a serialized harem mystery plotline, it's very easy to imagine what that would look like as a 50+ hour dating sim/visual novel.

[up][up][up][up] The author initially started writing it because the publisher wanted someithin akin to Quints. Considering his previous works this one is a bit out of style for him. But he probably indeed just has fun moking the concept.

I personally have high hopes for both new P.A.Works originals and Oshi no Ko 2 (I know, a lot of people hated this arc in the manga but it is my favourite one).

Do we have any info on Dungeon People? the title's Ambiguous Syntax makes it hard to parse if we have a Dungeon Core anime here or not. While the poster implies something literal in another sense.

[up] There is a PV and synopsis. It is about a girl who got a job managing a dungeon. With a bunch of ressurecting monster helpers who are there to build traps and be "killed" by adventurers.

Okay so it's close then.

Might still warrant interst, assuming Crunchyroll picks it up.

I gotta be honest, the only thing off this list that interests me is Oshi no Ko. I'll give Failure Frame a shot, but the Amazon reviews I saw for the novels weren't promising: they compared it unfavorably to Arifureta (which I do enjoy a lot).

Its Arifureta but what if the dickhead god was the one who actually summoned the class directly instead of working through the Pope. Also lots of edge, Shadow the Edgehog levels of edge. Coldsteel levels of edge.

Mimori's powerset is a lot more interesting than Hajime's though. So there is that.

Monogatari is back. The title suggest that this is looking to adapt a total of ten volumes, which makes me think we're in for some cour-splitting shenanigans

...I never did finish Zoku Owarimonogatari

Speaking of cour splitting. I noticed that Sensei Slime's seasons are more...in line with western shows, suggesting they have done two cours per seasons. I want to if this means season three would continue to this cour or not?
