Would the supposed "rivalry" of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Avatar: The Way of Water count as one when all I've seen are Puss In Boots 2 fans being snobs and crapping on Avatar 2 and not the other way around?
Same with Doctor Strange 2 and EEAAO. Doctor Strange 2 fans love EEAAO, the same can't really be said the other way around, it's mostly one-sided.

Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectThe hate has to come from both sides. If fans of work A also love (or are indifferent to) work B, but fans of work B hate work A, it doesn't count, since it's one-sided.
Also wondering...
Broken Base enforces a 6 month No Recent Examples, Please! rule to ensure the rivalry/divide within a fandom is real.
Should Fandom Rivalry have a similar NREP rule?

Additionally, how prominent do the negative opinions have to be? The internet being what it is, you can generally find some examples of fans of work A or B hating on the other even if that's a minority opinion within the fandom, and some of the existing examples definitely feel like that to me.
From mark3611's YMMV page:
- Fandom Rivalry: Mark3611's fandom and the gamer community since the hacker of Mark's original account later started posting gaming videos.
I've never heard of that. It's true that someone hacked Mark's original account and started posted COD and Minecraft videos but they were unanimously hated by everyone. And even if Mark's fan base blamed the entire gamer community for the hack, it was likely one-sided given how Mark's fan base is absolutely tiny in comparison. Also, Mark himself is a fan of Halo. Cut?
EDIT: I went ahead and took it down myself for the reasons I stated.

pee pee poo pooThis is on Home (2015):
Fandom Rivalry: Home fans seem to hold a major grudge against Big Hero 6, claiming that it's "overrated", "shouldn't have won the Oscar" and that it has "bad writing".
This seems rather one-sided to me...
Under YMMV.The Owl House there's a FR entry with Harry Potter
- Simply put, The Owl House fans and Harry Potter fans do not get along, especially due to the way the latter has largely become associated with bigotry against the LGBTQ+ community due to J. K. Rowling's strident anti-transgender views (in contrast to The Owl House, which is associated with acceptance of the community, being created by a bisexual woman). Many consider TOH to be "the Anti-Harry Potter", a work that addresses and refutes many of the writing problems with Harry Potter overall (representation of minorities, the way the mentor characters are handled, etc.). Harry Potter fans, meanwhile, deride The Owl House as a blatant ripoff product produced by a corrupt corporation in contrast to Harry Potter, which solely originated from Rowling.
Originally it was this:
- Simply put, The Owl House fans and Harry Potter fans do not get along, especially due to the way the latter has largely become associated with bigotry against the LGBTQ+ community due to J. K. Rowling's strident anti-transgender views (in contrast to The Owl House, which is associated with acceptance of the community, being created by a bisexual woman). Many consider TOH to be "the Anti-Harry Potter", a work that addresses and refutes many of the writing problems with Harry Potter overall (representation of minorities, the way the mentor characters are handled, etc.).
To make the entry less one-sided, I added this to the end:
But here's the thing, is it actually true? How many Harry Potter actually consider it a ripoff and/or dislike the TOH? Is this actually one-sided? I'm not so sure.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectIt seems this entry from YMMV.The Amazing Digital Circus was removed by ReginaldOgron5
- Fandom Rivalry: With Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, specifically the former's pilot, as Digital Circus amassed massive attention in less than a week. The Digital Circus pilot straight up buried any promotional material of the incoming Amazon Prime premiere at a time when tensions between the Vivziepop fandom and those outside it were already running high, aggravating some people and delighting others. Exactly who started behaving poorly depends on who you ask, but either way, the end result was frosty.
With the edit reason: "I feel like this is exaggerating some minor fandom border conflicts out of proportion. "Buried" is a strong adjective, and they both occupy different spheres of influence. Not to mention at the very least i personally haven't seen or heard anything to the effect this is describing, for what little that's worth."
Like, I don't know about you, but the rivalry definitely exists.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectI can certainly understand why HH or HB fans are frustrated by that, but is there any proof that TADC fans hate them back across the board?
From the bad TADC fans, I don't see hate, but I do see mocking of Vivzie's work and sometimes gloating about Digital Circus having a more broad, somewhat family-friendly appear; how it doesn't rely on swearing to be funny.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectHmm. Well, the announcement of the TADC pilot probably wasn't meant to coincide with the release of that Helluva Boss episode, so the Rivalry will probably die down as more episodes come out from both sides- but maybe keep it for now.
Yeah, I'll just restore it for now.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectFound this on YMMV.Sonic The Hedgehog and vice versa:
- With Crash Bandicoot, another 90's platformer series featuring a Mascot with Attitude. Fans often debate over which series has better games and characters.
Maybe it's because I can't stand Fandom Rivalry and thus don't participate in dumb pissing contests like this, but I've never really seen this anywhere? I did a quick google search for "Sonic or Crash" and I couldn't really find anything. I found like one or two posts on Reddit mentioning this supposed debate and all the comments were just "This debate is stupid. They're completely different franchises". I know that Fandom Rivalry is generally(?) a vocal minority because most people understand that you can like more than one thing, but the general fandom spaces thinking this is stupid surely has to mean this rivalry doesn't actually exist, right? If anything, I've seen more people (myself included) who like both because they're both 90s era platformers that were both a large part of peoples childhoods.

Sandbox help wanted. Can something count as Fandom Rivalry and Friendly Fandoms? I've seen some entries on Fandom Rivalry that end in something along the lines of "Of course, some fans enjoy both" and/or listing both audience reactions on the YMMV page, and I'm not sure if that can apply.
I feel like the only time it'd apply is under certain circumstances, though - if we just listed every time fans of work A disliked work B, but there were also some fans that liked works A and B, we'd be here all day. Maybe if fans of work A either like or dislike work B with little to no middle ground?
I've also seen examples (of both Fandom Rivalry and Friendly Fandoms) that list works with vaguely similar concepts and/or were released around the same time, even if I've never seen fans of either work say anything about the other. That being said, I don't participate in fandom drama for the reasons Rainbow Pumpqueen mentioned above, so I'm not too sure how often they apply.
Cold turkey's getting stale. Tonight I'm eating crow.I don't think that should be allowed. For an actual Fandom Rivalry or Friendly Fandom it should be a large obvious presence within the fandom, and I don't think either can really co-exist without cancelling each other out.
FandomRivalry.Music has a lot of issues (including bad indentation all over the place), but first, there's one specific entry that's bugging me:
- Any female popstar's fanbase will inevitably be at odds with another's.
Surely that's way too general? I also find this entry odd since there's supposed to be a big thing about women in music supporting each other, which should theoretically dissuade this behaviour. Regardless, easy cut?

"As long as I have my comrades with me, I can do anything!" (She/Her) (Current Focus: Cleaning Hell Is That Noise misuse)Yeah, that's far too general. I'm sure there are cases of female artists with rivalling fanbases, but we need to specify who (there are some such examples on the page, though I don't know enough about most to say if they're valid).
I found this example on YMMV.God Of War Ragnarok
- In a more one-sided Unknown Rival sense, with Xenoblade Chronicles 3. While most fans were resigned to Xenoblade losing Game of the Year, even some Ragnarök fans were shocked at it beating Xenoblade 3 for Best Soundtrack, resulting in the latter picking up no awards. Fans of Xenoblade are quick to point out Ragnarök's perceived flaws, linearity and excessive hand-holding, are criticisms that have been levied at the JRPG genre for decades but The Game Awards' panel forgave them because it wasn't made in Japan.
As someone who does enjoy XC3, I really don't like this entry; the mention of an "Unknown Rival sense" is a big red flag. This entry just screams "someone who is still salty about something". Any thoughts?
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AOh god yes.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I agree you can cut that. That's not a rivalry. That's just "at least one fan of work A is salty about work B."
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.Removed now.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AYMMV.Stellar Blade had this
- Fandom Rivalry: A minor one with Hades II, due to Western gaming sites praising that game's Ms. Fanservice characters while trashing Stellar Blade for the same thing. That being said, most of the actual vitriol is directed less at Hades II and more at the gaming sites themselves.
I'm not sure if this counts and the mention of gaming sites for likely political reasons run afoul is ROCEJ violations.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/ABumping
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AYet more shoehorned complaining about critics not liking the girl in Stellar Blade. Can be cut, IMO.
Spinning off from this thread and building on what was discussed here, the trope Fandom Rivalry, much like Broken Base, requires both sides to oppose each other. Entries that are one-sided are in the same boat as one-sided BB entries in that they are automatic misuse and should be cut.
