Cleanup Thread: MCU Character Pages

So MCU: Cosmic is officially at the too long mark. How should it be split off? I recently reorganized it under Species, Planets, and Organizations. Should that work? I'd just do it but I feel like it could be organized a little bit better.

I would like to repetition other changes to the MCU Character pages:

• MCU: Chronicoms back into MCU: Cosmic or however the species section is split
• MCU: The Council of Nine into MCU: Criminal & Terrorist Organizations
• MCU: Inhumans – Attilan into MCU: Inhumans to consolidate the inhumans.
• MCU: LMD somewhere?
• MCU: The Chaste somewhere?

I also think the supporting characters should be reorganized, possibly by location, but I cant figure it out completely right now. The main pages that need to be reorganized for accesibility are:

• MCU: Criminals & Terrorists
• MCU: Criminal & Terrorist Organizations
• MCU: Government & Military
• MCU: Citizens

I never understood why the Chronicoms had their own page even though they have less than 40,000 bytes. I think the best thing to do would be to merge them back with the Cosmic page and replace them with a new page on something larger, like the Nova Empire for example?

Those five moves make sense to me. For the LMDs, I personally would just attach them to the characters like we already do with their variants so they're all in one place - so attach them to the bottom of either the CSP or group page they're a part of.

I have admittedly not looked at the entire Cosmic page, but the Sovereign section is already at 40,600 bytes, so that can be safely split off with no issues. The only other move that makes sense to me is moving the Gibborim (or at least Jonah himself) to the PRIDE page since he's the reason for its existence.

I created Sandboxes for both MCU Nova Empire and MCU The Sovereign. Please let me know if you think there is any issues.

I think everything looks good. I do think Gorr can be moved to MCU: Other Supervillains though. Hes not really apart of any organization. Just doing his own kill all gods things by himself. The Black Berserkers are just extensions of All-Black the necrosword also. Unless they change it.

Given the MCU’s strong history of Never Trust a Trailer, I’m going to strongly advocate for just keeping him where he is until the movie comes out and actually establishes him. I don’t want to move him only to have to move him again.

I guess. But we are trying to cut down the cosmic page. And having him with other supervillains rather than just under others in the cosmic sections makes more sense to me. If he does end up somewhere else what harm does two weeks do? I’d rather just do the work now and just adjust accordingly as it goes.

Even disregarding that a cleanup effort would definitely reduce some bytes on the page, getting rid of the Sovereign (the page looks good, btw) gives us enough breathing room that it shouldn't get too long before the movie comes out. I understand that it might feel weird keeping him on Cosmic, but I already feel like we jumped the gun by moving Jane and would rather we actually know what we should move him to before we move him instead of just dumping him in Other Supervillains and calling it a day

And the main reason why I'd rather minimize moves is that doing these big moves messes with the histories of the pages involved, creating a lot of massive edits that become a chore to wade through.

Always remember that you can and should enact cleanup on these pages before trying to do splits. Pages can shrink drastically when misuse, natter, word cruft, and more are all chopped. If you want to trim the page, start there.

Ok so I merged the Chronicoms, Council of Nine, and Inhumans. I'm also going to merge MCU: S.H.I.E.L.D. – "Real" S.H.I.E.L.D. into the various SHIELD pages as its only 23,079 bytes.

I also launched the Sovereign and Nova Empire pages.

The Sovereign made their first appearance (not counting the Collector's cocoon) after the Ravagers and the Kree, so I think they should be listed after them.

Likewise, the Ravagers technically appeared before Xandar, so they probably should be listed first.

I just organized them from organizations to species. If you want to reorganize it that's fine with me.

All the variants have Alternate Self in their folders but are somewhat lacking in further context since the intros give us the gist of it. I was thinking we could cut the trope from the variants folders and move them into the mainline folders.

I think that's a solid idea.

Also just FYI I started adding Edit Notes i.e. no ZCE's, etc, to all the pages. I'm not finished yet but I'm heading off to sleep now. Just a heads up. I think nearly all the short pages are taken care of besides the Chaste and the LMD's. I also noticed that MCU: Avengers – Allies hit the too long mark. Just a heads up.

Also second FYI there are 3 sandboxes for Characters. MCU Arthur Harrow, MCU Nick Fury, and MCU Ulysses Klaue. None of them have been launched but with all the merged pages I think there’s room for them all. I would like to advocate for them. I am going to say I only made the Klaue one because I remembered someone said he was over 40K. The other two were made by other people. They are all around 43K each.

Regarding the MCU: Avengers-Allies page, I noticed that Valkyrie was recently added, but I don't think she really belongs here, as she's mostly associated with Asgard which is already listed among the allied organizations. If she's listed on this page, then there's no reason the Warrior's Three, Sif, Heimdall or even Odin and Frigga shouldn't be added as well.

Someone named ~tolchok did a bunch of moves to that page recently, so I’m gonna summon them here. Would you mind just explaining your reasoning please? You’re not in trouble or anything, we’d just like to know why.

I just think because Valkyrie was affiliated with Sakaar the first time we saw her, and she didn't ascend to the throne of Asgard until the end of Endgame, she more or less started off more affiliated with Thor than Asgard as a whole in the eyes of the audience.

Ok so I just had the same reasoning myself. I just moved the Barton Family to the page under Hawkeye's section. Who exactly should go on the page?

Also I moved the Chaste to MCU: Dimensions under K'un-Lun. I was also wondering when should the spoiler title for Clea be removed? DSMOM is on Disney+ now. Should that lift title spoilers?

When I made the page, I meant for it to be people who specifically fight on behalf of the Avenger they're listed under, not just anyone they happen to be allied with - and this is once again why we like discussing moves before they happen, because even disregarding that the Allies page is very past too long, I would've strongly objected moving the Barton children to the allies page. I moved Laura there because she actually assists Hawkeye during his series, not just because she happens to be married to him. I can see the logic for Valkyrie, but I'm gonna advocate moving the Barton children back.

Ok that makes sense. Also it's like a minute move, I can fix it in like a minute. But I get what your saying, actual allies vs supporting characters. That still doesn't fix the too long issue though.

Barton Family is moved back. Although I will say you forgot to redirect Laura in general on MCU: United States Citizens. You might want to check the rest of the characters.

There's another move that kinda confused me - I haven't seen WandaVision, so can someone tell me if Billy and Tommy actually go into battle/actively aid their parents during the series or are they just there? If they don't get the chance to really fight, I'd advocate moving them back as well, and that might bring the page under the too long limit again.

I'm working on drafting a page for the Big Bads of the franchise as well, but it's taking time to find the motivation.

I think Valkyrie, Korg, and Miek should be moved back to the Asgard page though. They could probably be linked to though.

I have a unrelated question though. Where do pages stand on The "The" Title Confusion. Some pages are just MCU: Example vs MCU: The Example. Thoughts?

I can go either way on the Thor alien trio. I personally didn't think to put them on the page but I do see the logic there.

I did some byte counting on the Allies page, and Iron Man, Thor, and Spider-Man's sections are all large enough to justify their own pages - 44,000, 46,000, and 67,000 respectively. Now obviously we want to check them through for content before we think about making pages out of them, but moving those out of there (assuming we keep the Thor alien trio there instead of on Asgard) would clear out more than enough to bring the page below the limit.
