Duplicate Trope: Dueling Products

Per GastonRabbit's suggestion. No wick check since the issue is conceptual.

Useless as its own page as it describes a very specific concept that we already have a page for, and with 30 wicks it's also Not Thriving. Could potentially be merged with Dueling Works, moved to Useful Notes or cut.

The DuelingWorks TRS is still ongoing and had near the exact issues (table formatting (already removed) and poorly written "fights"), so Dueling Products can be just entirely moved to Dueling Works as subpage and the discussion continued in other TRS.

Actually going to propose a cut.

So far we have Dueling Works, Dueling Shows, and Dueling Movies. What is this going to cover? Off the top of my head, the only thing I can think of are toys and toylines, but if that's the case then we'd be better off just narrowing it down to that and launching a new trope entirely.

I get the feeling this is part of the reason why it has only 30 wicks. No one really knew what should go there that didn't already fit in the other existing tropes.

Cut and yard the idea if others feel so inclined to try to make something more out of it

Two of the three you've mentioned are redirects to the first one. The proposal is to make DuelingWorks.Toys, DuelingWorks.Others (or as a folder) and etc, since tehcnically there's nothing preventing from doing that already since Dueling Works already covers these conceptually. Ifever they should be kept can be decided at Dueling Works cleanup which doesn't seem to have started yet.

I guess a merge into Dueling Works is OK, but the concept feels almost too trivial for most of the items. It's pretty off-mission. Not chairs, but omnipresent so every example of competing products feels like, uh, maybe not worth documenting.

I'd be fine with cutting as well.

Effectively it's a redirect either way, but the options mean if we should move the examples while at it as well.

I'm for merging this with Dueling Works, and against cutting it or just turning it into a redirect. My reason is that I feel that there are some cases of "duels" between products that became so well-known that they entered popular culture, or even became memes, and they are just as trope-worthy as duels between, say, movies. Mac vs Windows is one such case.

But these cases don't need their own trope - they could just as well go in an "Other" category on Dueling Works.

We may want to clean up the example list but I guess that would be the task of the Dueling Works TRS thread.

If by cleaning up the example list you mean the way it's laid out, the Dueling Works TRS thread has already been working on replacing the ugly table format with something easier on the eyes; doing that with this list would be folded into that if we do a full-fledged merge instead of cutting it.

If you meant removing examples that are bad, that would also be folded into the Dueling Works thread.

I've already got rid of the table format for either trope, so at least that's out of the way. I've kept the "Winner?" portion at Dueling Products because its example layout wasn't part of Dueling Works's discussion, the tables just objectively were making the page unreadable.
