Not Tropeworthy: Mohs Scale Of Rock And Metal Hardness

This includes Mohs Scale Of Lyrical Hardness, Mohs Scale Of Science Fiction Hardness and Mohs Scale Of Violence Hardness.

The problem with all of these is that they give a quantitative score for a value, and context is entirely reliant on reading the body of the Moh's Scale pages in question. It doesn't really advance a narrative device and they're just for fun pages in all but name. It's especially a problem for the Rock and Metal and Science Fiction pages, especially when not explaining why the page has the value given.

Since I stated they're JFFs in all but name, they should be moved as such. There is a project cleanup page that did suggest either this or Darth.

Opening

I agree with moving these to Just for Fun, but I think the regular Just for Fun namespace would be more suitable than the Darth Wiki namespace.

to JFF, they seem to be something that would work well there.

Though I do worry that we are moving too many things to JFF. What is the actual purpose of JFF?

The reason why these pages aren't JFF is because they are not joke pages. The sci-fi pages in particular are frequently cited in discussions about accuracy in science fiction. Obviously to changing the namespace.

Oh, and I see that some of the pages discussed here aren't even tagged...

Maybe they're not joke pages, but they're not tropes nor any of the three other known non-trope types that are often in Main, but still worth documenting to some. Move to JFF.

So in other words they do not belong into JFF. That namespace is not a catch-all dumping ground for any concept that TRS thinks doesn't neatly fit into Main/.

Then maybe it should be. AFAIK, we have nothing to lose by using it this way, and it helps show these are not tropes.

Yeah, this issue comes up so often that it's better to just find a new namespace than to keep stuffing Main/ with things that don't belong there.

Though FWIW, the pages aren't joke pages but they are still something of a game, rather than an actual trope concept. I don't see why JFF has to be this narrow. I mean, we put TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life there and nothing about that one was/is written as a "gag". This is probably more of a reason to re-open the original discussion, but while I agree with not just throwing anything and everything down there, I don't know if "jokes" should be the only things included.

We actually do have a SlidingScale/ namespace, which has pages listed on SlidingScale.Home Page.

As for Just for Fun being limited to jokes, why does it need to be? There are other ways of having fun, and nothing about the namespace's name indicates that it's joke-specific.

Edit: For clarification, the second paragraph is about Just for Fun in general instead of being specific to this thread. The first is more relevant to this specific discussion, since this thread is about sliding scales and we have a namespace forsliding scales.

Because it says right so in the title? And because an index/namespace that lumps together all manner of "not a trope" things together isn't useful. Nor is it supported by the description of that page.

Seriously, people. TRS does not have the licence to make up a definition of Just for Fun that is at odds with the actual title and scope and shoehorn random pages into it.

Otherwise, I've made a wick list at Sandbox.Mohs Scale Of Science Fiction Hardness if folks want to peruse how it's used.

Just for Fun incorporates more than literal joke pages. Games are fun too, and this is something of a wiki game or at least something that entertains people. And again, if this page is an issue, I raise you TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life.

The title of Just for Fun most certainly does not indicate that it's specifically for jokes, because as I mentioned, jokes are not the only way to have fun. The section isn't called Just For Jokes, Just For Funny, or Just For Laughs or anything like that.

Anyway, it looks like everyone missed the part where I pointed out that we have a namespace for sliding scales.

TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life was another instance of this kind of shoehorning so it's not good as a counterexample. And every dictionary that I know of has "just" as a word marking exclusivity.
