Huh. Didn't realize we have Zeerust, which apparently covers both the technological and social aspect of an "outdated" future. Does that make this trope redundant then?

Nay, because Zeerust is an aestethic not simply an "outdated idea of the future".

A work which puts in the effort in world-building a future society is likely to be written worse? I think the bolded part should be replaced with "appeal to a wider audience".

Edit: I just realized the trope has a 20-year waiting period. Is that...is there much of a point to that? It feels pretty objective, and the waiting period reminds me of the one Unintentional Period Piece has/had, which I also think is nonsensical for the same reason. But this is an objective trope, which makes it even worse.

I remember it was just tacked onto the crowner we had for Values Dissonance and Values Resonance on the No Recent Examples Thread, and no one really argued against it.

I'd personally recommend that the waiting period be removed, since I don't think there was really any problem before it was added.

Yeah, let's get rid of the waiting period. It was probably lumped with Values Dissonance and Values Resonance because it was mistaken for a sister trope to those two, due to the "Marches On" in the name.

I think the "This is the social equivalent to Zeerust" sentence should be moved from the top of the page to the beginning of the paragraph that mentions that the trope is the inverse of Politically Correct History, but I don't strongly oppose keeping the sandbox as-is.
