Misused: Franchise Original Sin

I agree with that: remove the "work used to be good" requirement, and leave FOS as simply "a flaw that used to be tolerated". I never understood the part about the work having to be "better" when the flaw was tolerated, as what "good" means varies from person to person, so removing that would better generalize it as an audience reaction.

Also, should there be a requirement that an example must be the majority opinion among the fans, or at least the subject of a Broken Base? I feel that that could also help cut down on complaining. Or would that be overkill?

That requirement is fine to me.

As far as I'm concerned, that's an unspoken requirement for most YMMV, barring Vocal Minority.

Would a thread with twelve thousand likes and thousands of comment count as enough evidence?

Also would Values Dissonance that got worse as the series moved forward count?

I've like to discuss matters regarding FranchiseOriginalSin.World Of Warcraft. I feel like that some entries have been stealth complaining ever since the controversy regarding Blizzard Entertainment's ban of Blitzchung came out and some people saw this as an excuse to insert their Flame Bait into various Blizzard-related articles. One of those targets is the aforementioned page for WoW, and I'd like you to check out any information that seems to be stealth complaining and not that of legitimate grievances.

This isn't really the spot for issues like these.

Yeah, let's make a crowner. Personally, I don't think removing the "used to be better" requirement will actually improve anything, and will probably have the opposite effect.

Alright, so so far I have two potential options for one:

• Remove the requirement that a "sin" was done better in a prior installment
• Start a cleanup thread

Any other potential options?

I guess throw in the standard "cut" and "do nothing" options just in case.

Not entirely sure if removing the "used to be done better" requirement will actually help, but I guess we'll see. If it doesn't, we can always revisit the issue. Where should we start the cleanup thread, and would anybody object if I did so?

I was gonna start it, but honestly I am bad at wording OPs so knock yourself out. Long-Term Projects is where it should go IMO, this trope has been a long-term problem magnet (and will likely continue to require work and maintenance after all the wicks are cleaned) so that might be a better place for it to go.

Don't know. Anyone else have suggestions or ideas? Any wicks that need to be cleaned? Or should we do that in the cleanup thread?

I feel like this requirement will end up increasing the amount of ZC Es, tenfold.

How so? Even the lowest context example will presumably include both the problem and the installment in which it originated.
