Undertale Cleanup thread

Hello. I noticed that there is rampant trope misuse, along with a number of other issues, in all Undertale pages. They are in dire need of a cleanup.

The list in the sandbox is getting ridiculously lengthy, so I decided to make a proper thread.

You can all take a look at the Sandbox and edit it. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Alright, I'll see how I can help where I can. Just edited the sandbox after I found a couple of ZCEs.

Thanks for coming to the thread! How about you take one page, while I finish the A tropes? You can also read the stuff I already wrote to see if there is anything you disagree with, or want to add.

And yeah, ZCEs are not allowed. At best they are commented out so that someone who's editing the page can fill them.

By the way, you can take your time, as I see you're running another clean-up thread.

Thank you! I will come over here and help when I have time. I agree with the other ATT posters that the Undertale pages are quite bloated, so I will help in areas I feel I can help.

Thanks for the thread. Cleaning up tropes that belong to the character page would really make me happy (as well as putting a warning on each page, just in case people try it again). I'll add some shortly.

Thank you for that. At the rate it's going, I think we'll be doing A LOT of deleting. We'll may even have to merge a few pages.

You can send a personal message using with "Send PM" in the Messages tab in your profile (hollering is done on the forums). And I've added my stuff, even if I think I was kinda lenient.

Just checked the sandbox again.

Thanks for your input. We'll definitely have to out a warning in the future with all those "just one character" tropes you found. And all Undertale characters have folders, so there's really no excuse.

For the record, there is some dispute over what, exactly, goes on Character Sheets.

That is true, and I do have my doubts about some things as well. For example that Abstract Apotheosis one. For now we're marking the tropes that only apply to just one character. There's no reason why Badass Beard should be in the main page while Asgore is the only one who has it.

Don't know if it is as bad as the pages of Undertale but Deltarune may need a look as well, considering its status as a Spiritual Successor to the former. I suspect, without looking, that similar misuse may be abound.

I have read the Deltarune pages a few times, and it's nowhere near that bad. The main page may have a problem or two, but the character pages and subpages are fine.

EDIT: At first glance, the main page doesn't have problems.

Tropes like Aborted Declaration of Love, And Another Thing..., and And This Is for... are listed as only applying to one character, but they're not really character tropes so I don't think they should be moved to Characters/ pages. Same goes for Alpha Strike, but that trope page says "An alpha strike refers to a unit attacking a single target with every weapon it has, all at once," while Sans is just one person (unless you count his Gaster Blasters), so I believe Sans' starting attack falls under Begin with a Finisher, not Alpha Strike.

I think the biggest problem with Deltarune is examples that are written as if the Chapter 1 demo is the whole game.

Let's tackle one project at the time. While I agree it's a bit of a problem, it's nowhere near that serious.

Thanks for the input. The sandbox just has initial notes. You can always edit it if you'd like. Truth be told, there's always a debate about what goes to a character page and what is not. This IS a work in progress.

Should A Bloody Mess be moved back to the main list too, then? I had moved it to Sans' page since it only applies to him...assuming we're even keeping it at all; it seems to be ambiguous whether the fluid in question is actually blood or not.

The identity of the fluid is never confirmed one way or the other, to our knowledge. Ideas that it's ketchup or pure Determination or whatever are all pure speculation, so we can't really call it an example of A Bloody Mess.

Toby has said the entire rest of the game will be released at once rather than chapter-by-chapter, and that it could never be completed. The unreleased work cleanup thread decided it didn't count as unreleased, and to treat it more like season 1 of a TV series.

About A Bloody Mess, I think saying that the liquid cannot be identified due to the graphics should cover it.

Seems fair to me. Let's leave Deltarune alone for now.

And another thing; I see Willowleaf 24 has already started editing the page. This is a request and reminder to everyone; if you fixed an example, remove it from the sandbox (or at least, the part you corrected) so we can keep better track of our progress.

The thing is that we also can't confirm it isn't blood. Sans is known to be unusual; it's possible he really is bleeding. So we can't confirm that it's a red non-blood fluid being mistaken for blood, which is the definition of A Bloody Mess.

Maybe we should ask in "Is this an example" for confirmation? Actually, I'm gonna ask them now.

UPDATE: I just finished going through the Undertale.Tropes A page! I'll start with minor fixes - indentations and stuff - before discussing the rest here.

Update: progress through B is going slowly. This page is also full of problems of all kinds.
