Wick Check Project

You can go ahead. If you need help along the way maybe I'll throw some in. The last time I tried to do a wick check I accidentally closed the tab before saving so maybe it wasn't meant to be.

I sometimes save after every few wicks just because I lose count and need to check the edit page for how many I added

Hey guys, first time on this thread and also first time doing a wick check.

I'm interested in The Wiki Rule (aka WikiRule), since every time a I encounter it, it's just a link to an external site. Now, the article on wick checks mentioned that for a sample you must have either the square root of the total number of wicks or 50, whichever is greater. The ones I need are just the ones used in the trivia pages and it looks like there are... more than a thousand ([1]).

Is this a quick way to count all the wicks I need? Also they have to be randomly picked, how do I do that?

1. Grab a calculator or use Google. Square of 4904 is 70, so that's the amount of examples expected to be in the wick check sandbox.

2. You can copy the list at the Related and use either an online tool or Notepad++ to shuffle lines and pick the top 70. Or you can quickly scroll up and down and blindly hit 70 links.

Hey, so I'm wick checking The Dreaded for misuse and redundancy with Terror Hero here. It'd be cool if anyone lends a hand since we have to wick check 127 wicks.

I managed to make the sandbox for the trope: The Wiki Rule Wick Check. I still not sure that I did everything right, but oh well. I'm also not sure what to do next, should I make a post in Trope Repair Shop?

Add to the TRS Queue, comment on the problems of the trope you wick-checked, and suggest at least one solution to resolve said problems.

One last question, I noticed that many of the tropes in the list have "(can launch without me)" written in. Should I do the same?

Up to you. If you want to launch your own thread, you can say so. If you want someone else to, you can give permission.

I personally let mine be launched because I’m not always online, but you can decide which option you prefer.

Forgive me for keep on talking, but if I put the "(can launch without me)" do I still have to wait to be approved by the mods or can I just make a post on Trope Repair Shop whatever I want?

If it reaches your slot and you’re online, you can launch. I’ve done that before. Actually a few times I and the mods have launched my thread at the same time—in that case, the mods morgue one and keep the other. You don’t need to wait for mod approval—and since you have a good case, I don’t think your thread will have problems.

Man, the nerve are killing me, I really want to launch this thread, how do I know if I'm next in line? Also, when I launch, should I just copy and paste what I wrote in TRS Queue?

So I know I already brought this up in the TRS meta thread, but earlier this month I put Cloning Blues on the queue. Here's the wick check.

Can anybody give me a reason as to why this thread is NOT redundant to the TRS meta thread?

This is the Wick Check thread. The TRS meta thread is for stuff like, "could this need TRS?", or pinging people to threads, or general TRS maintenance. This thread, on the other hand, is specifically for wick checks, soliciting help with wick checks, grouping collaborative wick checks together in a big Sandbox, etc. Am I being clear enough?

Considering tons of people, myself included, have brought up wick checks in the meta thread, no.

This is still the main wick check thread. Usually when people bring up wick checks in the meta thread, it's to ask "should I TRS this based on the results", which are usually completed.

This is where help with completing wick checks is usually solicited.
