Just a Face and a Caption: Badass Decay

It does say kept by admin request but as far as I can tell that's only because they couldn't find a better image on the previous thread, and it was generally agreed upon by everyone there that it was overridable as long as there was something better.

So let's change it because it is pretty...not explanatory at all and JAFAAC as hell

To avoid the last thread's fate I'm gonna start this thread with an actual example of what I think might be better:

Hmmmm...unsure what to think about the suggestion, as I don't know enough about the character to know if the second panel is representing actual decay or just him doing something strange.

So the current image is Spike from Buffy/Angel as a puppet, and the current quote is also Spike. So something has to go.

As for the suggestion, neither image in the collage really suggests Joseph Joestar as badass nor the loss of it. And even if we find better pictures, I thought the spirit of this trope was when a badass character loses said credentials due to a story shift and not because they grow old?

But I think any replacement will have to be a before and after collage to really capture this trope.

I understand it; he's actually senile in the second pic.

That said, I'd like to take this to TRS, mainly because Badass concepts are ambiguous in name and I see 2 concepts happening here: one involving Character Derailment and another involving story progression. I dunno.

Getting more Break the Haughty vibes from that.

I like the image in the OP. And frankly, the current is JAFAAC.

None of the suggestions are very clear to me.

The current image says nothing to me, as someone who knows literally nothing about Buffy teh Vampire Slayer

I think it would. He looks clearly cocky in the first one, and not only does he look gloomier and a lot less handy (iykwim) in the second one, the mood is also darker.

And also, pull current on Badass Decay regardless of replacement.

It was kept by admin fiat, so we should only get rid of it if we can replace it. How about this◊ of Spike?

That's still just "character turns into a puppet", which may be kinda funny, but doesn't actually illustrate the trope.

As for admin fiat, honestly, whatever; bad images should be pulled even if once upon a time Eddie liked them a lot.

I think it's because originally before TV Tropes this was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fansite. So it's like a grandfather clause.

That and apparently this trope used to be called "the Spike" or something.

I don't really have a point to make here, other than pointless TV Tropes history.

I don't think we should pull images kept by Eddie's fiat just because he's not in charge anymore. What about Vegeta?

Of the suggestions, I prefer 1.

it's not because the admin isn't in charge anymore, it's because the image doesn't fit. Also, I don't actually see anything in the Vegeta screenshot that illustrates this. An image of a badass then a funny pose doesn't exactly...illustrate it the best, I guess?

Still sticking with my original 1 for now, because it shows progression of time and progression of decay

Agreeing. The suggestions aren't clear for me, but the current is even worse - Fan Myopia at it's finest, again, coming from someone who knows literally nothing about Buffy or things related to it

I thought admin fiat meant it couldn't be pulled without a replacement. I guess it's up to Willbyr now that Eddie's not admin, but I'd much rather just pick an image. How about the JoJo suggestion with a more obviously badass top image?
