Cleaned out The Witcher (2019).
I will also post about this in the big franchise pages.
As I mentioned in the previous thread, I went through RWBY: Solitas. If there's anything wrong, let me know.
Illuminate!Removing black borders is fine, inconsistent image sizing is not. The reason I didn't mind those black-bordered images was the consistent 300x300 size across all pages; most of the images you proposed and swapped are obnoxiously tall. If you are changing that now without a care for consistency, I am 100% sure nobody would call that an improvement.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainI consider the changes made on RWBY: Solitas an improvement. They're still all 300 pixels wide, but there's no reason they all have to be the same height. A lot of people on the IP thread that voted to remove the borders disliked that they just showed the characters' faces.
Keet cleanupEven so, there's a limit to how tall an image can be before it's unacceptable.
Is this your idea of acceptable?
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainIt's a lot more acceptable in the page itself. Once for one editing the page, I can shrink it down more.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢I admit that one may be too long, but the rest look fine. You seriously need to cut the abrasive language, though.

Keet cleanupI'll admit, I probably should have shrunk that down in Photoshop more.
Illuminate!Shrunk it to 225. Does it look better now?
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Yeah, that looks fine.
Keet cleanupMuch better.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainCleaned up the Fullmetal Alchemist character pages and removed it from the sandbox.
Fixed both images on Star Wars – Luke Skywalker
Illuminate!I replaced Luke's original trilogy image with the one from The Hero, since it's a better crop, higher quality, and brighter.
Adding Characters.Pacific Rim to the list.
Keet cleanupWait aren't we not supposed to duplicate images?
Illuminate!I think character pages have a bit more leniency with that. The image on The Hero is JAFAAC anyway, imo.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Characters.Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure Battle Tendency has images in this format.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! Not anymore. It's been fixed.
~BlackMage43 I'm not a fan of most of the new Fullmetal Alchemist character images you uploaded: they're fan-made transparent bust-ups and quite small. emperormasakado changed the images multiple times: first he changed them to transparent renders, but replaced them with the bordered images with the website background presumably because most of them had artifacting around the edges.
Most of them are PSP sprites, but the Mannequin Soldiers image on Fullmetal Alchemist: Homunculi is a fan-made transparency from this eyecatch.◊

Keet cleanupTrue, that's not ideal and should be fixed. However, they also look a lot better than the images that were there before.
Illuminate!I'm wasn't thrilled with them either, (they're sprites from a PSP game, I figured it was official enough) but I had a hard time finding art for characters that weren't main and couldn't find any good HD screenshots for most of them. But feel free to replace any if you have better alternatives.
Watchmen (2009) and Pacific Rim have been debordered.
Characters. The Dark Tower images have black borders. I removed the borders from Adam Taurus' images on Characters.RWBY White Fang.
Keet cleanup
Project sandbox: Character Images With Black Borders
Following two ATT discussions about the square black borders around images on some character sheets (eg. DCEU: Superman), an Image Pickin' thread voted to remove them as they tend to be low quality composition-wise (crop of a character's face) and the black borders look bad in Night Vision (for which there is a concerted effort). This affects many large franchise character sheets, such as Star Wars and Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Thus, calling upon image-concerned tropers to help with the debordering: simply replace the images on works in the sandbox with the best/highest quality/most recent/most illustrative image of the character (individual judgements as to the image that best illustrates the character), and cite this thread or the IP thread in the edit reason. These changes won't need an IP thread. Feel free to add works to the sandbox as well, and take pages out when they have been cleaned.
