This is a thread to discuss those Administrivia pages in need of a little updating- you know the ones. The ones that still cite rules we've long since changed, or the ones that don't properly cite our current standards. Some of them are even scattered in Main/!
So, this is the place to take those pages and fix them up with the help of the community.
For a list of current projects, see Outdated Administrivia Pages.
Note: This thread is not for asking mods to make one-off edits to Locked Pages, Administrivia-related or otherwise, such as requesting additions to an Example Sectionectomy index. Please use this thread for that.

Thinking the same way on that.
ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔That was why I brought up JustForFun.Holy Shit Quotient.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.+1 to move Misty May to Just for Fun.
im fine with moving Misty May to Just for Fun.
Under policy, fan-speak terms like that one belong into Main/. And this thread does not really have the authority to overrule that, unless TRS ratified a conversion to JFF.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmanum... no they don't. otherwise, UsefulNotes.Anime Fan Speak wouldn't exist. (and i did suggest moving Misty May there in the ATT thread.)
Septimus, what's the big deal here? why are you attached to this term to the point of using mod fiat to overrule consensus?
This thread is titled "Outdated Pages". It is a place for - appropriately - discuss pages that have become outdated. It is not a proper place for establishing consensus on a namespace move, we use dedicated namespace threads or TRS. I am not terribly attached to the page but I am attached to the notion that discussions have to happen in the correct places and that inbounds are not simply a sign of interest.
Point taken on Useful Notes, but Just for Fun is not a place normally used for Fan Speak terms.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmanfair enough on both counts, and i apologize for misinterpreting your intent.
with the precedent of having the Useful Notes index, can we get behind the namespace move there, or should i still make a TRS thread? i can do so if need be, it's just an extra step or two.
I think that this thread would probably be the ideal place. TRS too but I think you'd be hard pressed to argue that Misty May being in Main/ is a serious problem.
Personally I think that there is a distinction between niche or silly-looking fanspeak terms (which normally go to Main/ or UsefulNotes/; we've never established a clear consensus on the matter) and between pure joke pages (which we put in JustForFun/). Sometimes there are also practical considerations at play; Pettanko was moved to UN to discourage links to it and vice versa This Troper and Chekovs Gun were located at Main/ because the content of these pages is explicitly aimed at people incorrectly linking to Main/.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe issue here seems to be whether or not Misty May is fanspeak or not. Some people think it was invented by TVT, which has happened before.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI vote for a cut. Redundant page that's an In-Joke.
My only issue with the Misty May page is that it claims to be "anime fan speak," but I've yet to see any evidence that it actually is or was at any point.
It's not impossible that somebody somewhere has actually said it at some point, but in my mind, to qualify as "anime fanspeak" it has to be in fairly wide (if not ubiquitous) use, like how "Metroidvania" is used to denote an exploratory platform videogame.
I'm not saying that it's impossible that for somebody, somewhere, "Misty May" was once used as a term of measurement of the "Gainax bounce". But AFAIK it isn't, and never has been, used to any great degree, and I've been around anime fandom in varying degrees since the early 90s.
I really think this might be a case like TVT's "Takahashi Couple" or "Otaku O'Clock": it seems to be a case of "citogenesis", where it only exists insofar as people saw it on TVT and thought it was a thing. I think it's telling that we don't have many (any?) instances that aren't on this site, or directly referencing it.
I don't personally think it's a big deal either way that the trope exists, but I think the actual existence is more suspect than the namespace it's in.
1.6k inbounds isn't even that impressive considering the age of the page and the claim that it's an actual fanspeak term. Gainaxing — an actual thing — has over 120k inbounds and is just as old of a page.
I think we should cut Misty May.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Reading through the recent posts, I agree with cutting.

On an ATT query, I asked about example sorting within medium on pages sorted by medium, and ~War Jay 77 said that alphabetizing within medium is the ideal, but adding examples to the bottom is standard. However, on How to Write an Example, it makes no mention of this and only says that you should add examples to the bottom. (I would link to the ATT query, but I can't post a link to it since I have a new account.)
I also think that we should cut Misty May.

The policy page should definitely reflect that "sort by medium" is, in fact, grouping, and sorting within the group then becomes necessary.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. The best way to put it would be to follow the page's standards: Alphabetically if the page is alphabetized, to the bottom if it's not.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI also want to cut Misty May, since it's not real fanspeak, but I doubt we'll be able to if the mods don't want us to.
The page doesn't mention anything about alphabetizing within medium.
Yes, that's my point.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWell, the only comment on the thread scope question I got from my colleagues is that this thread's remit is to update outdated pages and not namespace moves. And we never cut pages with over a thousand inbounds based on a discussion in a completely unrelated thread and with little more than "I think so" arguments, so that's firmly denied.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanTurn it into a redirect for Gainaxing, then.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I say incorporate elements of Misty May to Gainaxing.
Also, as The World's Breast Tropes index has been launched, Misty May is not included on the examples list. There was a mention of Misty May in the comment section of the draft, but deleted because of its dubiousness as a trope. And I couldn't add it there because it's locked.

Misty May could very easily be at JustForFun.Misty May and not have to worry about losing anything content nor inbounds.
