Lately, we've been having some trouble with pages in the Roleplay/ namespace, and much debate over how to handle said pages. Problems include:
- Auto-Erotic Troping
- Major problems with example context
- The difficulty cleaning up or verifying the content on said pages, often due to these roleplays being private or otherwise inaccessible
In this thread, we will discuss and clean-up these works so they conform to the rules of the wiki, and can be understood by any reader regardless of whether or not they take part in the roleplay.
Here are some useful sandboxes for our cleanup effort:
- How to Clean a Roleplay - a sandbox guide to determining availability of, locating, and cleaning up pages to roleplays.
- Roleplay Cleanup Thread is used for sorting pages after we examine them, whether they've been cleaned, cut, or shelved, and anything in-between.
- Roleplay Cleanup Thread Indexing is used after a cleaned and verified page has been added to the first sandbox. We try to add these pages to our indexes, with the plan to create actual indexes later on.

While wick-checking I found Roleplay.Musou Verse. It's...really bad. Just see how many YMMV examples there are in the trope list, and that's just one issue.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessJust found Roleplays.Danganronpa Discord Trilogy while browsing edits from new accounts, and... yeah, it's a mess. None of the tropes are actually linked to, some are completely made up, and it's in the wrong namespace. The only editor so far is ~Falconof Light, and the page is the only place they have edited.
TRS Wick CleaningLooking at that page, I think they just don't understand how TV Tropes actually works. Don't really see anything redeemable here.
I just saw that page. I'd say it's So Bad, It's Good, but a cut would be understandable. There could be some good trope ideas in there (I thought about Simp Wars, but it may already be covered by Compete for the Maiden's Hand, or Good Guys Dont Swear, which could be a sister trope to Gosh Dang It to Heck!).

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)My favorite trope there is "Charlotte is innocent, we swear".
But seriously, I'm in favor of a cut, but not immediately. Let's see if we can teach this troper the ropes and have them fix it.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessDo Roleplays need to include some sort of link? The Last Rebellion Of Sigma doesn't seem to provide any information about where it's located or..anything.
I'm also sending the Heartwarming and Tear Jerker pages to the cutlist since they each only have one zero-context example.
Edit: Oof, looks like several/most of the pages created by that particular troper have lots of problems. I hid the most egregious ZCE's on Robots With Issues, but I'm not real convinced that the stuff that remains is actually "context".
Edited by Willowleaf24 on Jan 21st 2021 at 6:23:07 AM
No, that doesn't count as context. Both of those pages are stubs that can be cut.
I was going to ping its author, TheSweetestTart, but they haven't done anything since 2014, and the last page they made, Roleplay. The Onyx Toramas, was cut for (you guessed it) being a stub.

Could someone please take a look at Paradisa?
The number of ZCE and bad Example Indentation in Trope Lists is so overwhelming. Is there enough (3) tropes to stay? To be honest, I don't know. I think there's none, but after seeing that the first two folders have only one "passable" example (and that's very generous) and the third one continue the trend, I'm kind of snap and give up.
Take a look at history, most edit are clean up. The last non-clean up edit was in 2012 by Nohbody who was last active in 30th Oct 20 and edit infrequency.
I'm working on commenting out a bunch of ZCEs for the time being. The page is just infested with them.
I'm not really sure what to do about Characters.Enter The Arena As Your Avatar Players. It's mostly just folders of tropers with the characters they play listed in bullets. So there's not much "troping" involved.
Yeah, that can probably be cut or moved to the main page.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSince this RP is here on this site, a plain list of characters by troper could easily be moved to the sandbox of any active player. But yeah, it can't stay where it is.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.I went back over Roleplay.Paradisa and and found that there's really only five tropes on the page with anything resembling real context. I personally think it should be cut, given that the page hasn't had any content added to it since 2012, the actual roleplay doesn't have any entries any newer than 2014, and the two people in the page history who added it both left the site years ago, so it's unlikely to ever have anything more than five real trope entries.
Edited by Serac on Feb 23rd 2021 at 1:21:17 PM
Well...five is more than the minimum needed.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThat is technically true, but I've always thought of anything less than ten as just a starting point, and as I've already noted, the page is almost certainly not going to go any farther than that.
Edited by Serac on Feb 23rd 2021 at 2:02:29 PM
That's true, but I don't think we should cut things just because we don't think it's enough- 3 tropes is all that's needed to establish a work as being tropeworthy, and I don't feel comfortable imposing our own subjective will on these pages if they're technically not against the rules.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI just commented out a bunch of zero-context examples on Roleplay.Open Blue, which doesn't have a working link. ~Essex, as the only contributor in the page history, do you happen to know if it's still available to read somewhere?
Unfortunately, it was one of those old school forums on Invision Free. When they got bought out by Tapatalk, it seems to have been erased. I tried getting on it last year for nostalgia's sake, and only got a message that the site I was looking for didn't exist. So I guess it's all gone now...
Don't forget to check the wayback machine in cases like this.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. There we go. Only had a skim through, since I'm not at home, but it seems like both the roleplay threads and the character profiles are available.
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGobTwo questions, both related to Unpublished Works:
- Do Discord roleplays still count as unpublished if there's a permanent invite link on the trope page? We're kinda inclined to say they are, just because verifying shit on Discord is a huge big gargantuan colossal pain in the ass, especially once Tupperbox or other proxy bots get involved — plus the fact that the invite link can be revoked or the server deleted at any time, with (to our knowledge) no ability for the Wayback Machine to archive any of it.
- If a work is unpublished (and therefore can't have a Trivia subpage), do Trivia items get troped on the "main" (i.e. DarthWiki/) page, or are they forbidden entirely? (YMMV items seem obviously forbidden under Auto-Erotic Troping, at least.)
Regarding the second question: Creators writing Trivia for their works is also Auto-Erotic Troping, so they'd be forbidden the same as YMMV. Unless it's different if Roleplay Trivia has been written by someone who doesn't count as AET (i.e. not the creator and not a major participant)?
Edited by BrashBuster on Mar 23rd 2021 at 10:39:15 AM
Not true. Creators can add trivia if it's independently verifiable.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessPersonally, I would feel really awkward joining someone's Discord server just to verify that a roleplay still exists. And, of course, there's the question of whether the server will still exist and the roleplay archive will still be there in ten years. I don't think it's reasonable to expect people to just leave roleplay servers up forever, so I think Discord by itself is not a verifiable source.
Recently, I found Roleplay.Royal Roulette. The page and its subpages (including YMMV, Funny, and WMG) seem to have two editors, Radiant Despair and The Gamer Pie 13, the former of which is listed as a player on the open-access Discord server where the game is hosted. I couldn't find any info about the latter. If I remember correctly, the players of these games cannot create or add to YMMV pages for them, as they fall under creators, so should these subpages be cut?
Aside from that, there are a few ZCE problems, especially on the Characters subpage.
