Video uploading

I hadn't known about the bugs forum / where to find it, thanks. That's the same problem for me.

Excuse me, I've been trying to upload a video today, but it just doesn't seem to be going through...

As in, it uploads, but it doesn't transcode immediately (and thus doesn't show up in your Videos list)? Someone made a bug report about it, and I've seen the same thing too.

I'm having the same problem. I thought there was a problem with the video.

I tried putting up a video, but it's not transcoding. Glad to know it's not just me. XD

Oh, so it's the site's problem! I also thought it was something off on my PC's side.

This could be very bad for us. Hope somebody fixes this soon.

Unless it's a different issue than I think it is, I think the bug is in the progress bar: a video I uploaded actually went through, there was just no indication of it until I got a PM from the system that it had finished transcoding.

My uploaded videos has just transcoded, so looks like the issue is fixed! Thanks!

Question: I've been uploading a number of videos from a single source and was worrying if I might be risking spamming things, so (somewhat belatedly) I wanted to check if there were specific guidelines for that. I've been trying to space things out a little, but I don't really have any way to be guess how many or few other videos might be uploaded while I wait.

Eh, it's probably fine. The real issue is more if it's the same source and the same trope over and over again, but having multiple videos from the same source is honestly pretty normal.

The only problem right now is that because of the previous bug with uploading, videos have piled up and there is a significant approval backlog.

I wouldn't say it's a "significant" backlog as the person who did several pages last night. It was about how large it usually gets after a few days.

I said it because the video I uploaded about a week ago (not long after the bug was fixed) just got approved today. But to be fair, another that I uploaded 2 days later got approved too, so the backlog might be getting better now.

That's because I usually handle the video stuff, and I was extremely busy all week (not even at home for three days). But this just happens sometimes; the backlog was only at like 9 pages, which is honestly less than I was expecting lol

So, some time earlier I asked if you can upload a video that inverts the trope. If so, can it be mentioned in the description and link to Inverted Trope?

I'll say that I did recently reject an inverted video, though it didn't mention it in the description, and I was skeptical as to how tropeworthy the inversion even was. It all comes down to a judgement call at the end of the day.

Are "played with" video examples fine if the trope is discussed? My "Recycling an Old Idea" video on Never Recycle Your Schemes has two villains discuss recycling a used evil plan, one saying it's a bad idea and the other convincing him to go with it.

So ultimately, Never Recycle Your Schemes is subverted/defied, but it is discussed first.

I'd normally accept something like that since the trope is at least being acknowledged.

It's the same as invoked or inuniverse ymmv, if discussion of playing with a trope is visible in the clip, it's fine. I'd rather not entertain trope variations that you wouldn't guess by just the video.

For example on the "playing with video examples", I present my video addition to the One-Handed Zweihänder trope from years ago, which I titled "One handed grip, deconstructed": Megatron and Optimus both charge each other with enormous swords, Megatron wielding his in one hand, Optimus in two.

The clash ends with Megatron, using only one hand to swing his sword, taking longer than Optimus to recover from the swing, which leaves him open to Literal Disarming after Optimus recovers. The deconstruction is very visible: even if you have the strength to wield a BFS in one hand, you really should be using two regardless, and the rating of (currently 4.7) suggests the title and the description is enough to make people understand what the video is showcasing.

So therefore, I lean in the camp that if the video showcases how the trope is played with and the description is good, it's fine.

Of course, it'd be fantastic if we could get some support for the playing-with of tropes for video examples, like a dropdown upon selection, but until we get that, I think something like Clear, Concise, Witty is a good guideline for videos as well as the TLP.
