If a certain video contains Epileptic Flashing Lights it's likely that it will be rejected because we don't want people having any epileptic fits.
Not just likely, it's in the rules.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupWhat I meant is, I don't know if it's too close to the condition or not.
For the following video examples, the video example "Tricking Waternoose" (Engineered Public Confession) from Monsters, Inc. should have the following secondary tropes added, those being "Caught on Tape" and "Oh, Crap!", while for "Scaring is Not Caring" (Heel Realization) from Monsters, Inc.the secondary trope "My God, What Have I Done?" and the media source Monsters, Inc. should be added in when available.
~The Precision Driver - You want this thread. Mind the instructions in the header there: "If you want a trope added or removed from a video, please explain how the video fits/doesn't fit the trope or link to other discussions supporting your proposal."
Is there a way to add a secondary trope to someone else's video example? I ask because the memorable post-credits scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off ("You're still here? It's over. Go home. Go.") is listed as an example of "That's All, Folks!" with a secondary trope of "Fourth Wall Observer", but I also wanted to add "The Stinger" as a secondary trope so it'll be featured on that page, because that scene is also an example of a Stinger.
You can make a request to add that in the Video Moderation Requests thread here
Should there be a limit to secondary tropes? I kinda don't think so, but

...At the very least, subpages (MEH, Nightmare Fuel) should be removed as sources. I'm pretty sure they aren't allowed.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessCharacter and creator pages too
I'm thinking about uploading a nightmare sequence from Turning Red, but I am unsure if it would be allowed considering how the scene contains Surreal Horror on a level which is honestly kinda unprecedented for a family-friendly Pixar movie. Would the scene be allowed as a video example?
A video example's existence is only challenged when it's adult content or actually detrimental to one's health (there are a few more things in Video Guidelines but these ones seem relevant).
Or if it's for a trope that isn't allowed to have videos.
Otherwise, Turning Red is totally fine.
No child should have to think of selling medication for food. Are you afraid?Or, well, if it's not a valid example, contains a watermark, goes over the length limit, is terrible quality...
We reject vids for all sorts of reasons.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYeah I was about to clarify that I was more talking about the general visual aspects, since the concern seems to be "too disturbing" (which I disagree with as someone who's seen the movie).
No child should have to think of selling medication for food. Are you afraid?Ah, yeah. That's not an issue really.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI guess it depends on the mod/engineer in question, but I assume that whether a video is a valid example is not in the approval condition. I mean, they have to watch a lot of videos, and deciding how it applies to the trope in question is not within their resources to decide. That's what the voting is for, if it's a bad example then it will be downvoted. The approvers should instead focus on whether it is allowed to put such a video on the site to begin with, for example check that the video does not have explicit content.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.That is absolutely not how it works; we reject videos all the time for not matching their tropes. And the votes are pretty much worthless.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThanks for the clarification. So that's the reason it's so rare that I see videos rated lower than 4. And that video examples take so much time to get approved.
Another question: if a video fits the main trope but not one of the secondary tropes, do you reject it or just remove the reference to the secondary trope? Or vice versa, if it fits the secondary tropes but not the main one?
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.I usually reject it with a note in the rejection reason / PM message that switching it to the secondary trope may make sense. But that's mostly because I feel awkward doing it on my own.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWhen I used to videos, I just switched the trope to whatever fits the best/removed the tropes and then approved the video that didn't without messaging.
As for as video rating goes, I feel some people rate based on subjective factors outside of quality and trope validity. Some videos I approved get low ratings even though the video fits the trope and I am pretty sure videos with high rating have been rejected.
Macron's notesYeah, most of the lowest ranked videos are specific works, and not necessarily about quality. That's why the votes mean nothing.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI've found that Frozen videos always get low-rated, no matter how good a fit they are.
VideoExamples. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic has a similar issue. I'm led to assume there's a silent "not a fan"dom pulling the rates down of certain works (my guess is that it's because they're popular but I doubt all video examples of other popular shows have the same problem).
No child should have to think of selling medication for food. Are you afraid?VideoExamples.Phineas And Ferb has the same issue as well. Look through the videos, and there’s very little that break 4.5 in terms of rating, and seemingly none with a perfect 5. VideoExamples.Dora The Explorer has it even worse, however.
I know ratings don’t mean everything, yes, but I’d be lying to say that I don’t find this really obnoxious.
I’m not even sure how we could fix this. Even if we switch to a thumbs up-down system like Crowners, the same users will still go around giving thumbs-downs to perfectly illustrative videos because they’re from shows they don’t like.
I’m saying “the same users” because I agree that it seems like there’s a few people who consistently distribute low scores to these videos. With VideoExamples. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, for instance, plenty of videos have similar numbers of ratings and scores hovering between 3.5 and 4.0, which makes me suspect that there’s a specific group of users who repeatedly rate these low.
And we can’t just make “don’t give videos a poor score because you dislike the work they come from” a rule either, as it’d often be difficult to prove whenever a user dislikes the show or simply dislikes the video.
back lol
Question: If I've got a video example I'm thinking about uploading but I'm uncertain about if its flashing lights are problematic or not, where do I get if it's viable checked or verified?
