Needs Help: Funny.RWBY

Awesome.RWBY, Funny.RWBY, Heartwarming.RWBY, and TearJerker.RWBY all have multiple images under folders like the NF page used to. Many of these are also of shoddy quality.

Opened; no time to look through them all ATM.

Let's do a breakdown.

• Awesome: Almost of these are terrible. They're incredibly context-dependent and/or have terrible composition (Volume 1 and Volume 5 pics are the biggest offends for the latter); shout-outs to Volume 4 being pure JAFAAC. The header could probably stay.
• Funny: More context-dependent pics. The Volume 1 pic is passable, but I'm pretty sure it's a split-second moment you won't even notice while watching. Volume 2 pic is also decent.
• Heartwarming: The header and Volume 2 picture are too context-dependent, while you can't even tell what's going on in the Volume 5 pic. The rest are fine candidates.
• Tear Jerker: Volume 3 is a terrible JAFAAC and Volume 4 is context-dependent. The header could work, but it's weak because the grave isn't immediately obvious. Volume 5 works I think?

I'd be OK with cutting every folder's image. Seems like an unnecessary thing that requires a moment to be shoehorned in from each volume.

Speaking of bad images, Heartwarming.RWBY's is especially non-illustrative. It's just a picture of some birds and the sun. None of the images from the folders seem particularly good either. May I suggest the Bumblebee hug from "Burning the Candle" as a replacement?

Bumblebee is Fan Myopia, and Blake is very expressionless in that shot which is why I raise the Fan Myopia issue.

I'd honestly choose something from Volume 5. The animation is better, and there are several moments we could pick from the longshot of Weiss hugging Yang as her knight fades into the sunset, or the three-way hug between Ruby, Yang and Weiss, or the four-way Team RWBY hug in the episode finale... which might be the best option, given they're the titular team.

Edited to add: Actually, the four-way team hug in the finale won't work because there's no angle that brings Weiss into shot, so something like this (but better quality and using the close-ups rather than the longshots, which is all I can manage here):

I agree the Awesome page images are all pretty awful. The only thing I can think for the page would be the moment Ghira saved Ilia from a collapsing balcony.

Not a huge fan of 5.1 or 5.2 for Heartwarming since they're a little too zoomed out, plus 5.1 has the Armor Gigas drawing attention away from the hug. Though 5.2 is close enough to be passable.

I don't like 5.3 for the Awesome page since the angle and specific frame are just really awkward.

I think that's going to be a problem for any Awesome image. It may be that the Awesome page doesn't get a good picture. The Tearjerker images are all awful.

After reading Karxrida's critique about the images, I have some ideas for replacements:

Awesome: The header and Volume 3's images are fine. Volume 1 could use a shot of the Nevermore getting decapitated instead (though that might be difficult to screenshot properly), or the moment when Penny uses her lasers in "Black and White". Volume 2's image is passable, but a clear shot of the Nevermores falling into the ocean from the finale would work better. Volume 4's could be a shot of Weiss with her Arma Gigas in "Two Steps Forward, Two Steps Back".

Funny: Leave the header and the first two volumes unchanged. Volume 4 and 5 are both passable, and I'm not sure if there is a better shot for either of these. Volume 3's could be changed - perhaps Qrow beating Ruby at that video game in "Lessons Learned"?

Heartwarming: There's a closer shot of the hug in Volume 5's finale that would work better, but that needs to be screenshotted personally as the RWBY Wiki lacks that image. Volume 2's not perfect, but the only thing I can think of that could replace it is Ruby hugging Zwei in "Field Trip" - whether that's good enough is yet to be seen. The header is supposed to be Monty Oum's signature, which got added after his untimely death as a tribute. Whether that's enough to make it stay as header is in the air, but I'm not sure which moment could replace that.

Tear Jerker: Volume 3's could be something like Blake getting stabbed by Adam in "Heroes and Monsters, or perhaps Penny getting torn into pieces in "PVP". Volumes 4 and 5 are reasonable as is.

And I will say that the NF header could use replacing, if only because it's not the scariest thing seen in show. The image I had in mind was the one used for Volume 5's folder, but the shot of Pyrrha disintegrating could work too.

Although Nightmare Fuel pages are Spoilers Off, that doesn't apply to anything above the example line, so Pyrrha's death would not be allowed since it's a spoiler.

I do think that the Salem illusion is a good pick for that page.

x2 We're killing the folder images, so pick one for each page.

We also just had a thread for the NF page with a crowner, so I don't think the image is being changed anytime soon.

OK. With that in mind, here's a revised list:

Awesome: Current header. Funny: The Volume 2 image (Weiss getting pied in the face). Heartwarming: The Volume 3 image (Ruby hugging Qrow). Tear Jerker: Current header.

Upon thinking on it, I've changed my mind about the Volume 2 pic for the Funny page being good. Weiss has to compete with the folder for attention due to the image composition (she's on the far left and in the furthermost plane, the folder is in the center and near foreground), plus it's not even clear what happened to her that would make the image funny to someone who's never seen the episode.

You have a point re. Volume 2's picture. And since Volume 5's image (which I found funniest of all) has a Walking Spoiler in the form of Yang's new arm, I'd recommend the Volume 4 image instead.

However, if Volume 4's image doesn't quite fit the bill, then a screenshot of Ruby's dramatic pose at the start of the food fight (i.e. "It will be DELICIOUS!") would be a reasonable alternative.

If I may, the pics for Awesome are unfortunately either JAFAAC (Volumes 3 and 4) or way too small (Volume 5). Volume 2 is an easy keeper, but beyond that, I'm vouching for zapping everything but the main caption.

I'm all for pulling those.

I'm fine either way. However, if we are to pull the volume images, I recommend that the Funny and Nightmare Fuel header images get updated.

In the case of the former, the current header image is quite cheap in terms of the humour. This would work better for the Funny page, although the image used for Volume 2's folder could work as well.

And those who led the NF clean-up left a commented-out note on the page that said that we could update the header image, so long as a new thread agreed to do so. I recommend that we use this picture (which had been used for Volume 5's folder) on account of it being much more scarier than the current image.

+1 for pulling folder images.

I'm pretty sure the Funny caption can be kept seeing it's one of the earliest (and therefore most recognizable) funny moments.

As for the NF caption, I think we discussed in the NF cleanup thread and they told me it was fine to keep the current macro, though I definitely lean towards a caption of Salem's V5E14 illusion going up the camera with a scream on her face.
