I try to say this before. Not all have to prefer the ship to the creator preferred one. Just a notebly bigger amount. Which I don't think they have.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI didn’t think it had to be bigger. That was where I misunderstood.
I resent this if this is true since I loved Will and Layla together:
- Warren/Layla from Sky High (2005) over the canon Layla/Will. Word of God says Warren/Layla would have become canon had the planned next three movies actually been made, so their chemistry was likely intentional.
Can anyone verify?

Warren and Layla were flirting at one point iirc, during the scene in the restaurant where they bonded and then with her hanging out with him after that. IDK if that means they were "canon" but they were teased.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessMy main concern. If they were given Ship Tease and apparently they were going to get together in a later film. Doesn't that mean they were Creator Preferred as well? Which means they can't be this.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadNice sweet spot. Not an OC, but not this either. The one small element that probably makes me glad there wasn’t a sequel.
I’ll post the Stranger Things entries later today. For the record, I’ve just been bringing the entries here and not actually doing anything on the page with them really.

Okay can something be this and a Crossover Ship? Like if it they meet on Canon. Like these characters actually meet in an official crossover and the ship overshadowed the creator preferred one.
Edited by Bullman on Jul 23rd 2020 at 12:52:32 PM
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIt makes sense. The crossover reveals the two works to be in the same universe after all and if the fan preference for that pairing is clearly there, it seems pretty fitting.
It’s like when Nick had its Klasky Csupo shows crossover (Rugrats with AAAHH! Real Monsters even though it was in a fantasy sequence and then later Rugrats with The Wild Thornberrys), it made perfect sense that each show took place in the same universe as Rugrats since their animation companies were not only the same, but because the writing called for it too.

Because I was thinking about that might qualified as both, but I am not sure.l if you can be both.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIf the crossover ship is just that popular, I don't see why not. Do you think it would still apply if they've never met, but the ship is still popular, though?

"Let’s see who’s stronger: someone that has something to protect, or someone that has nothing to lose."I don't know. I don't see why not. I'm tell you mind later I'm spacing out a little.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadYou think more than one ship could count as a result? One for each show and one that’s a crossover ship?
The rules may be a little looser with that.
Edited by futuremoviewriter on Jul 23rd 2020 at 3:06:31 AM
No it would still be one for a character, but it can just be for one of them if the other has a more popular ship.
Edited by Bullman on Jul 23rd 2020 at 5:15:49 AM
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIt’s a bit complicated. If not for the crossover, it would change the dichotomy of FPC s pertaining to the shipping of both works.
In the crossover between Thundermans and Haunted Hathaways (The Haunted Thundermans), they clearly set up a pairing between Max Thunderman and Taylor Hathaway (despite each coming from different shows and never being in another episode of either show together again). Not sure how it effects the shipping of either show really though.

Looking at the fanfic numbers, I'm not sure they're popular enough to count, though I don't know enough about the fandom to know if they're popular enough in other circles. I'd say that if either of them got into a canon relationship afterwards with another character in their own shows and the crossover ship is more popular, it could count.

"Let’s see who’s stronger: someone that has something to protect, or someone that has nothing to lose."I was thinking about something strange when this topic came to mind. You see I was looking through Fanfiction Dot Net and came across a section for Crossovers between Wizards of Waverly Place and Camp Rock. Turns out Alex x Mitchie is quite popular there prohaps even more so than their canon ones. Now on the down side this might just be because the two actresses are often subjected to Actor Shipping. So I don't know if it's worth noting.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadWell, I know crossovers can be popular whether or not the characters have even interacted. We already talked about the Rise of the Guardians page, which is well-known for lots of crossover shipping.
In fact, this also makes me think of the Over the Garden Wall fandom, where the most popular ship in the fandom is the crossover ship between it and Gravity Falls, Dipper/Wirt. In fact, there's a lot of crossover fic between the two. Considering Wirt does have a canonical Love Interest, would it be cool if I added an entry on this?
"Let’s see who’s stronger: someone that has something to protect, or someone that has nothing to lose."Definitely. By the way. Did we ever decide what to do about the other Gravity Falls entries?
Everyone cool with me writing a entry for Mitchie x Alex? It would only be for Mitchie though as Alex already has a fairly popular FPC.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI think it'd be fine if you added that. And honestly, things got so heated over the Gravity Falls entries that I'm honestly a little unsure about what to do with them. It's all a big headache...
"Let’s see who’s stronger: someone that has something to protect, or someone that has nothing to lose."I say we leave it as is. I have a big headache with it and I don't want to touch it.
Here's the entry and a rewrite the current Nate entry on Live-Action Films.
- Camp Rock:
- Many fan prefer to ship Nate with Caitlyn over his canon girlfriend Dana. Despite the two barely interacting with each other in either movie. This is due to feeling that their personalities would work better together then Nate and Dana.
- On Fanfiction Dot Net, the number crossover fics that pair Mitchie with Alex Russo rival or even surpass those that pair her with her actual boyfriend Shane. Reasons why seam to be feeling their personalities would work well together and the real life relationship between the two's actresses. These fics tend to either be the two meeting in a canon like situation or complete AUs that reinvent both settings from the ground up.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThe grammar in those entries need fixing, and the second one has a really strange wording.
Also, I frequently see Fan-Preferred Couple being listed in Harvest Moon YMMV pages. Considering that the HM series is pretty much a dating sim series, I don't think this trope can really apply, as it's basically "the most popular Love Interest option". Thoughts?
Edited by Adept on Jul 25th 2020 at 3:31:29 AM
Any suggestions on how to fix them? I'm more than open to feed back on it.
And yeah I don't think a dating sim can have this. Kinda seems like something down on purpose. So there is no disconnect. Get rid of it.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI agree with that, though there can be exceptions if a popular ship is with a character who isn't an option. Like I know in Persona 5, Joker/Akechi is popular despite him not being a datable option.
I'd say make your first two sentences in the first entry one sentence that's separated by a comma. For the second one, maybe also connect the first two sentences with a comma, but reword it by saying something along the lines of ",likely because of fans feeling their personalities would work well together and the real life relationship between the two's actresses." Just a possible rewrite, though.

"Let’s see who’s stronger: someone that has something to protect, or someone that has nothing to lose."So how's this:
- Camp Rock:
- Many fan prefer to ship Nate with Caitlyn over his canon girlfriend Dana, despite the two barely interacting with each other in either movie. This is due to feeling that their personalities would work better together then Nate and Dana.
- On Fanfiction Dot Net, the number crossover fics that pair Mitchie with Alex Russo rival or even surpass those that pair her with her actual boyfriend Shane, likely because of fans feeling their personalities would work well together and the real life relationship between the two's actresses. These fics tend to either be the two meeting in a canon like situation or complete AUs that reinvent both settings from the ground up.
Sounds good!
"Let’s see who’s stronger: someone that has something to protect, or someone that has nothing to lose."
I think when I first heard of this trope, my anticipation was that not all or most had to pick the alternative pairing that wasn’t official, just a fair amount. Clearly I’m mistaken.
