There's the other complaint that the missions can get a bit repetitive, like with Peace Walker.

Huh, apparently there actually are friendly NPCs to encounter in the world; after chapter 2 other Porters start showing up following the trails you've blazed.

Y'know, while I think it's a stretch to say DS defies genre or creates its own, I do think it's given a big Triple-A mainstream shot in the arm to the... "trade simulator" genre? I don't think there's really a name for it. I'm talking games like Euro Truck Simulator, Elite Dangerous, Caravaneer, etc. Where the core gameplay loop is resource management, deliveries, and economy. I could see DS being a gateway to the genre for a lot of people, and inspiring more interest in it.

So just skim some of the playthrough and all I've gotta say is, while repetitive, it's kind of intriguing and addictive at the same time. I think it's safe to say the game is about Post Apocalyptic Mailman trying to deliver some stuff and that's all I can say about it haha...tongue

[up] That would be interesting to see if this game ended up becoming a gateway for future games to come like you know...Metal Gear with Stealth Mission and this is from someone who didn't knew that much regarding Metal Gear

OK, so I've played some new. I haven't gotten exceptionally far despite the time I've put into it since I tend to putt around in games like this. I'm liking it. It feels like a Kojima game, for sure. There are some strange design choices, for sure, but it's got its hooks in me.

A tip for dealing with MULEs: they can't ping you if you have nothing to ship. Drop everything but your boots and they won't even pay attention to you outside of the camps. Switch to a Metal Gear mindset and they're really easy to deal with.

I have to say, the levels of I Knew It! I've experienced since this game came out are so gratifying, and most of it is in this thread so you know I wasn't BSing

  • December 2017, I speculate that the game involves the afterlife somehow
  • June 2018, I speculate that the game has no Hammerspace and all equipment is physically carried on your character
  • August 2019, I speculate that a major plot point will be Sam refusing to give up his BB and trying to let it live a normal life

Not to mention some speculations I posted on other sites that turned out completely accurate evil grin

I think its amazing that Kojima, Guillermo del Toro and Junji Ito are still visibly in touch.

I'm glad I stuck around in the first area. I would have missed the harmonica if I wasn't going for all five stars.

Finished watching some playthroughs of the game cool

Story, while convoluted, is really captivating and intriguing at the same time. Maybe this is why I will disagree with Ebert's opinion and say that Video Games are definitely art. And yes, the game ended up being one of my favorites btw

There's something poignant about a game all about reconnecting with others and stressing the importance of human bonds ending with the protagonist realizing the bonds he had his whole life were a lie and cutting them in disgust. At least he has his new daughter and reconnected with his father.

I feel like Death Stranding shouldn't be the first game to make one disagree with that.

[up][up][up][up]It's pretty commendable, not a lot of games do the whole "sometimes you really have to burn bridges" thing.

I wonder who review bombed the game on Metacritic... there are two groups that I think would have a clear motive in doing so: obvious trolls looking for something to hate on, and blind Konami loyalists who want the game to fail because Kojima is not part of that toxic environment anymore.

Konami loyalists, not Kojima loyalists. And I don't think any of them exist since Konami refuses to make new entries for the franchise any of them care about, and the ones like Benami that do see new entries aren't really into Konami as a whole.

So, I'm wondering about a trope to best describe the ending. Spoilers!

The ending heavily implies that the Death Stranding is over, as we see Sam step out into the rain with his hood down and while carrying a naked baby Lou in his arms, but neither of them are subject to Rapid Aging. Plus the rainbow is normal instead of upside-down.

What trope would this fall under?

Most of the haters are people who’ve ‘’always‘’ thought Kojima was a hack who’s let the fame get to his head and see Death Stranding as proof. That, and folks who thought it was gonna play like a Metal Gear game, and ended up disappointed when it didn’t.

EDIT: an example on You Tube:

This game has an 83 on Metacritic (if that matters). There are 15 yellow and 3 red. 72 are green and positive.

I'm not seeing the "review-bombing" or any indication it was by any particular group.

Just some of the ones I've seen

"Death Stranding reinvents how video game design can work" - Digital Chumps

"Death Stranding lives up to its towering expectations, if it does not exceed them. That does not automatically mean that the game is perfect. For example, the story and the actual gameplay are very unrelated, and the game has a rough edge. And yet Death Stranding is extraordinary." - Inside Gamer

"Death Stranding is the birth of a new genre. Death Stranding is a masterpiece that can only be generated by a mind like the one that Hideo Kojima has." - Atomix

"Death Stranding does belong in an art gallery more than it does sitting on consoles next to more traditional "games". As I sit here to write this, I am fully convinced that there are going to be plenty of reviews from my peers that veer to the other extreme as far as their scores go." - Digitallly Downloaded

Stuff like this is why I generally avoid Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes.

Mate, it's referencing the sudden increase of negative user reviews, nobody ever calls professional reviews "bombing."
