Just watched it.

Brilliant film. I don't think I've seen the adult actors that are in it being better in any other movie.

I think the real revelation of the film was Jack Black's performance. Most reviewers say that he nailed the "hot teenage girl trapped in the body of a middle aged man" thing and I don't think I can disagree. On going in I thought it could be a bit skeevy, but no.

He's a far better actor than I gave him credit for.

Is it my imagination or did this movie's version of Van Pelt look like Captain Hook?

I like to keep my audience riveted.

Now that you mention it, he does. It doesn't seem to be the same actor as him, though.

Nope. Van Pelt was played by Bobby Cannavale - here's his wikipedia page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Cannavale

He's done a few villain roles but I don't see Hook there.

He does look a bit like the Jason Isaacs version of Hook from that version of Peter Pan I never bothered watching though. As opposed to the other version of Hook from that version of Peter Pan I never bothered watching, who wasn't Jason Isaacs. tongue

I vaguely see the resemblance? Jason Isaacs as Hook was way, way hotter. Which... was very confusing to younger me lol.

[up] So he fixes the game on purpose, knowing what he's in for? That's kind of an interesting wrinkle as far as these things go.

Looks like a rehash of the previous film honestly...

With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptation

The Rock as Danny Devito is worth the price of admission alone, honestly.

All I can say is that this film will be more insane than the second one. Either comedically or in a bad way (Scott Rosenburg and Jeff Pinkner wrote the scripts alone this time, and they already did Kangaroo Jack & Venom).

So...what characters are Spencer and Bethany this time?

I guess the former might be Seaplane Mc Donough, but who's Bethany?

Maybe that Asian character we see in the trailer?

To be honest, while I haven't seen any reviews for Jumanji: The Next Level as of yet, I think this film will be nowhere near as good as the first two Jumanji movies.

And as for the box office... well, it will most definitely be the latest in a line of this holiday season's biggest stinkers. Not only will it have to compete against Frozen II this weekend, but also The Rise of Skywalker which comes out the week after.

It's kind of funny to go back and look at this thread before Welcome to the Jungle was released. Just about no one thought it was going to be a good movie until they actually saw it.

Saw both movies back to back. A LOT funnier than I gave the trailers i originally saw credit for, and laughed out loud way more and harder than I expected. The second movie has the gimmick of two senior citizens who never played a gane in their lives being in the bodies of the most essential characters for a good chunk of the movie, leading to some funny interactions and untimely deaths.

Also big spoiler for the ending: We've come full circle, Jumanji is returning to the real world.

Yeah, it's interesting that this movie is basically the same reaction wise as the last one. The trailers make it look worse than it is (the first ended up looking like a cash grab, the second looked like a rehash), but it turned out way better than expected. I liked this one just as much as the first.

Even Spencer's apparent character regression didn't end up as bad as the trailers made it look.

Also, that ending! I wonder if this sort of thing - Jumanji invading the real world once more - will allow them to bring in the Parishes in a sequel.

Anyone else think it would be fun if, like, Nigel was the Big Bad of a third film, as like an embodiment of Jumanji (the game). Kind of a Not So Harmless deal?

I'm not gonna lie, seeing him put a gun to someone's head and saying "Welcome to Jumanji." in a conversational tone before pulling the trigger would be badass and a good way to call back to the original Jumanji.

Saw The Next Level today, it was rather fun.

The Total Party Kill at the end of the oasis segment was rather amusing as was the body swap feature. And one of the old guys goes I Choose to Stay.

Bump. I feel kind of cheesy bringing this up this late. ^_^;; I couldn't help but notice some interesting opposite-ness.

Back in the first movie, Alan described the world of Jumanji as a Nightmare Fuel-drenched hellhole that he wouldn't even wish on Billy and his Gang of Bullies. In the third movie, Milo gladly chose to stay in Jumanji. It helps that the game literally gave him a second chance at life.

I like to keep my audience riveted.
