Get to know Kara, the Supergirl!

#BatAndSwitch: or, how Zatanna functions when helping others suddenly goes sideways:

One of my friends who watches the Supergirl TV series (I do too btw) said after watching Kara's intro video that it's like they combined Kara and Alex, her adoptive sister in the show, into one character, which feels.... pretty accurate. [lol] Though this version of Kara kinda gives me more Rosa Diaz vibes than Alex Danvers vibes but. it works. (Among other, more equine character vibes but I'm trying to avoid the very obvious MLP comparisons that everyone and their mother is making.)

"#PlightOfTheBumblebee" or: Karen has a wardrobe malfunction that isn't what it sounds like!

Incidentally, Karen sounds like Allura without the accent or confident tone. (I know, same actress.)

Also, anyone notice the "Get to Know" vignettes have "SBFF" written on the notebook? grin

Bump.

New short! One that's a little more dramatic oddly enough...

And ICYMI, the 1-hour long season premiere is tonight @ 6pm ET!

Ooh, it's an hour long? Exciting! Makes me wish I had Cartoon Network so that I could watch it right as it airs rather than waiting for it to be on iTunes or something tomorrow.

I'm surprised, how quiet this topic is. Premiere was few days ago. And it was great!

Maybe shorts and promos didn't fully warmed me up to this show, but it was honestly better than I expected. Characters are fun (and not as obvious MLP copies as I feared), so far my favorites are Wonder Woman and Zatanna.

Wonder Woman mostly for being Badass and thoughtful leader. I quite like cute and funny parts with her as well (like freaking out over Zee's card trick), except maybe for Fish out of Water part. No that it's bad, but it's been done before. Even Wonder Woman isn't new to this trope. Still clever to use her immortal status to make her both teen and a woman. And to get away with making all Amazons huge without having to buff up Diana. I wasn't sure she would make a good teen, but I guess mommmy issues settle it.

Zatanna is second for being very unmoving and non-phased by anything half the time and over-the-top fancy show-off the other half.

Other notes: WW vs Supergirl fight was great. After Young Justice seeing evil googles so soon was bizarre. I'm not found of intro. Visuals are good, but song I don't like. But songs in actual episode were really nice! The only thing I'm not sure about so far is will the girls have secret identities or not.

Funny how all girls can be in Metropolis and only Batgirl needs reason why she's not in Gotham. I suspect why Gordon decided to move..

I enjoyed the pilot, and watched it again with my sister today. She was amused by it (I think her favorite gag was "Accept my payment or DIIIIIIIIIIIIIE!!!").

I'm expecting something to come out of Lex leering at the Super Hero Girls as he walks away.

I also thought the action was decent.

I liked the premiere a lot, too! It was a blast, and the characters were great. Like [up][up], I was also worried they'd all just be blatant Mane 6 expies, and, while there are certainly some similarities, I'm glad they're still their own characters. I actually liked the theme song, which surprised me because I disliked the snippet of it they used in the shorts. And yeah, all the songs were cool. The action sequences were so fun! I think my faves might be Diana and Barbara. I love Diana's whole Comically Serious Fish out of Water stuff, and Babs is so peppy but also very intelligent, and a really clever detective, which I appreciated.

I would be watching it, but my perfectly legal sources don't seem to have it as of yet...

...Was that an EXTREMELY subtle reference to The Killing Joke, aka the worst thing to have ever happened to Barbara Gordon? surprised

Sadly, that joke was Sunchet's creation and not in the series itself.

Me and my sister thought that the most unrealistic part of complaining about being away from Gotham was complaining about being away from Gotham.

Speaking of jokes, though, Lena's ultimate plan to trap people in Virtual Reality made me laugh, since that's Lex Luthor's plan in Superman 64.

The premier was charming enough that I rewatched the reruns when they came on. I really loved the animation (reminded me of the fluidity Wander Over Yonder had), and I thought I'd be more put off by the premise than I was. Overall it works well. I hope the series takes off well enough to prevent it from "earning" a death-slot later on.

I liked all the characters so far, but to me, this show's incarnation of Supergirl is essentially a young Power Girl: her attitude and muscular look feels more like her than the other incarnations of Supergirl I'm used to (admittedly, I've only been familiar with the Supergirls from the WB-era of DC cartoons, the live action show, and Injustice 2). And yes, I'm aware of Power Girl actually being an alternate universe Supergirl (and that last I heard, Power Girl actually went back to her original universe and took up the Supergirl name and costume there).

I got to say, I've got kick from fact that Zatanna shares voice with Charmcaster.

Show's pretty much improvement on Super Best Friends Forever in every way, thought I will miss a little Supergirl bring thick.

Any guesses which girls will get the most shipping? My money's on Diana and Kara.

Super Hero Girls isnt really imaginative title and it even sillier as team name. This is why no hero lets Scout Girls do their naming.

Haven't seen the shorts but this was fun. I liked the Super Best Friend Forever versions of Batgirl and Supergirl more but these versions have time to grow on me. Not sure how I feel about Wonder Woman compared to Wonder Girl though. Aside from that, Zatanna is probably my favorite of the cast at this point with Green Lantern as a close second.

Bumblebee was my favorite. For personal preference I wish they'd darken her skin some, but she's really cute and sweet and got a well done hero moment. Next fave is Supergirl for pretty much opposite reasons, lol. They kind of compliment each other well I think.

I was just thinking how silly it is that first enemy of SHG was just kid, but then again, Superman's soon-to-be nemesis is just a kid.

Then I realized that we don't know if this show's versions of Superman and Batman aren't teenagers.

I mean, so far the only non-parent comic character that still an adult is Mr Freeze.

Clark probably is a 20-something, the same as Bruce. The latter picked up a Robin, at least.

[up] Some of the character intro videos uploaded by Cartoon Network use yearbooks that have Lois Lane listed as a high school student.

I doubt they'll establish Clois (Clarois?) in a show where Superman is supposed to be a bit player while his cousin shares the spotlight with her gal pals, but if they do bring up the Clark and Lois relationship, it might get awkward if Clark is out of high school while Lois isn't...

Batman as an angry moody teenager while Alfred is his father substitute.

...Actually that joke pretty much just describes The LEGO Batman Movie. Among other Batman incarnations.

I have to say it never sat me right for Wondy to be a teen while Bats & Supes are adults.

They really should be equals.

[up] Has there ever been a point before DCSHG where Diana wasn't an equal to Superman and Batman?

In any case, it's Thursday, which means new short! One in which Babs has a hoarding problem...

[up] I dunno, previous DC Super Hero Girls? Back when I watched Justice League I guess I didn't got the feeling that she was important, but arguably everyone was suppose to be equal there.

You know, most of Marvel/DC shows these days like to throw you right into middle of their verses with stuff like Red Tornado, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing etc and to just keep up. I wonder if this show will be different. So far, comic knowledge makes it easier to predict future developments with Barry, Lex or Harley, but it is't really necessary. Everything you need to know is slowly introduced and explained. With one exception of course being... "You fucking know who Batman is! Shut up! Don't lie! You know who the Robin is; you know who the Superman is. Let's just get on with the fun and not piss about with origin stories!"

Marvel's Spider-Man. I did a slight paraphrase replacing Joker and Riddler with Robin and Superman.
