I'm a lazy RTS player that loves turtling way too much and having fun building my base however I want and create impenetrable defenses! I like looking at my own stronghold. I also tend to drag games out so I can watch dumb AI send its units to the slaughter. I just enjoy carefully positioning buildings and building and building.

ECA from Rise Of The Reds appeals so much to me because of how they're defensive and all about defenses. And in 2.0 version, one of the three generals will exaggerate and further improve on the formidable defenses. I can't wait...

I can't get past Marble Zone in Sonic 1, find a single dungeon in the first two Zelda games, or get to the first boss in the first Metroid. I have a lot of trouble with other games too, but those three seem the most embarrassing because you rarely hear people complain about their difficulty.

The Marble Zone one is a bit wrong, though. I have beaten the zone before but I have difficulty getting through it. I haven't played the game in 5+ years but I remember dying in Marble Zone a lot. I don't know if I've ever beaten Spring Yard Zone.

I only beat Sonic 1 with a level select code and still can't beat Sonic 2 WITH a level select code. I did beat 3 and Knuckles though XD

I barely reached stage three of the original Super Mario Bros game. And then I died. And then I haven't reached farther ever since.

I hardly ever play Zelda games, mostly because I'm lucky if I get past the first dungeon or two.

Also, when I play Terraria, I seem to fall into a mage/summoner hybrid build like a Skyrim player into a stealth archer. On that note, I have yet to get very far with anything but a stealth archer in Skyrim, although I do use some Restoration magic on the side in case I get caught.

[up]Same here with Zelda games. I can never get into them because they’re just too difficult and I never know where to go. I completed Four Swords though, it was much more straightforward. (That game’s a lot of fun, too.)

[up] I couldn't figure out ALTTP or The Minish Cap without guides, but the main 3D games are easy aside from Wind Waker (I played the HD version once and never want to deal with the surfing again). BOTW however, is incredibly tedious. I brought it near release and still haven't beat it. Unlike Twilight Princess, it can't be beat in a week for the average player. Just getting across an area takes half a hour.

Open-world games aren't for me. I remember buying Xenoblade Chronicles X near launch and I got 25+ hours in before quitting around chapter 5. It's pretty and nice, but it has too much running around doing nothing. I tried to get back into it last year but I can't remember how to play it and don't feel like restarting a 20+ hour file. I don't think long 100+ hour games are for me.

I'm currently playing ALTTP and the dungeons aren't that bad. The overworld though... I tend to get clueless.

[up] I used save states because I couldn't deal with going through the trouble of giving through a dungeon, going to the boss, and then dying. The bosses are too difficult in that game. The Lost Woods was also annoying; it always is.

I haven't played the game in a few years but I remember one part of the overworld stumped me. I don't know how you wouldn't find it without a guide. You had to backtrack in the overworld to find an item necessary for the plot.

ALTTP is my third favorite Zelda in terms of story. I love Zelda's design, Link's design, and everything, but it's not a game I'd play more than once. The Himekawa and Cagiva manga are better.

[up] Yes, that dungeon mechanic was an absolute bullshit. Even so, I'd rather get killed by a boss and go through the whole dungeon because doing so gives me a feeling of accomplishment. I could use save states but I've been using them a lot (and I mean it, I used to do it every new room) when I was younger and now I feel like I'm not playing the game the way I should. That's just me though. I don't see anything wrong with others using states.

I agree with you that the bosses' difficulty was high. I hated that one in the Tower of Hera. Not because it could easily drop you from the platform (though that was annoying as heck too) but because when you managed to get back, its health gets restored. Grr.

To be more on-topic: I played all the Mega Man Battle Network games but I beat only the first and sixth ones. (I adore this series' soundtrack by the way)

I only ever seem to reach the 3rd stage whenever I try to play the original Super Mario Bros. The one time I did get past it, I managed to go all the way up to Bowser's castle...and immediately died right before I reached the final fight. Kinda just quit after that.

Well, that’d be jus’ a waste. Why would ya want to deprive the world of such anomaly as yourself?

[up] People don't talk about it much, but I remember seeing a thread on another site once about people being unable to beat the first Mario game in its original form. It's more common than it sounds. The game has limited lives and no save system, plus its physics make for awkward muscle memory moments for people accustomed to future games, so it's not an easy game.

I find the third game worse, though. I don't know how kids were supposed to beat it in one go. I read a Reddit thread about that recently - the OP was baffled by the lack of a save system - and I don't get it. I've heard many mention the flutes were a save system equivalent, however they're hard to retrieve without a guide. You wouldn't find one on a normal playthrough.

I generally kinda suck at platformers and it was not different with the first SMB. I only made it to like 3-4 and that's only because I played the All-Stars version which had the save feature.

Meanwhile, I've yet to get past World 1-2 in Mario 1, but if you want me to beat Puyo Puyo 1 and 2 in one sitting in less than an hour, I'm your girl.

I beat SMB, but only with virtual console save states.

Then, much later, I learned that if you hold A when pressing start after a game over you start on the world you died on instead of the whole game again.

[up][up] I hate playing Puyo Puyo I brought Puyo Puyo Tetris and it's so hard to get through many of the stages. I've skipped over many of the levels. I just can't get the hang of Puyo Puyo no matter how hard I try.

Speaking of, I lost my first round of the Mean Bean Machine game in Sonic Mania. I think what trips me up is that it's a match-four or above game, not a match-three or above.

I thought I would be criticized hard big time for not making past the first three stages of the original Super Mario Bros game. I'm honestly surprised by the... strange lack of reaction to me, I guess.

[up]The thing is platformers require a lot of dexterity and precision to play them and no one starts off good at those at first. I do not blame you if you cannot play them as well as some people. smile

I wish I kept up with playing fighting games and developed the skills to play at a high level but now I am in my early thirties, that might not be possible. sad

[up] Just Googling "can't beat first Mario game" gave me an eleven year on Gamefaqs post about how hard it is. It's not sn easy game.

I, however, feel embarrassed for not being good at Pitfall!. It literally only uses one button yet I die a lot.

I consider myself on the Genre Roulette side. I pick any genre. Just make it work for me.

I could try fishing the original Super Mario Bros game, someday.

I probably don't finish most of the games I play, and I used to mainly play on easy mode.

Nowadays although this isnt much of a secret when you see me play, I have no clue why, but I don't give a flying fuck about the meta and meta strats usually, and just bullshit or unconventionally stumble my way through things.
