With Your Name, I can at least see why he might not like it; it's definitely not a movie for somebody who does not like romance or love stories.

[up] Why even cover it then? If your known stance is 'I don't like romance in media' watching a romance movie is a waste of you and your audience's time.

A good way to grab attention is to rip into something popular, regardless of whether or not you have a insightful perspective on it.

[up][up][up] I think that’s giving Enter a bit too much credit, anyone who’s been on the internet long enough has probably noticed that people get toxic over disagreements.

I mean, its still true even if everyone can see it. I don't really see that as giving him credit [lol]

So something worth pointing out whilst Enter has not officially joined the alt-right his opinions align with them over a lot of things considering the shit he said in his earlier meltdown about masks and the BLM protests. Literally everything Enter said in that was alt-right bullshit.

He doesn't have to say that hes alt-right, it's already obvious by what hes said.

[up][up][up]The “angry reviewer yelling about things people like and whose word we’re supposed to take as gospel” is kind of a Dead Horse Trope ever since the Channel Awesome implosion, but even slightly before it, it was rapidly losing popularity. The people who have survived have made it a point to become far more intellectual and analytical in their work (Linkara, Phelous), swore off the reviewer character bit (Lindsay Ellis), focused on things like the art of the review (James Rolfe, who uses the Nerd to experiment with his filmmaking passion), or in the case of Doug Walker, tries to turn it into a skit show.

If Enter can break down intellectually why he believes that, in order, an Emmy award winning episode of Rick and Morty (and the episode that landed its writer a job with the MCU for their adaptation of She-Hulk), an award winning film Hollywood immediately optioned for a live action version, a widely celebrated final season of a show that many lamented being Cut Short and celebrated its return, and a show that Western animators use as an example when pushing back against people who claim modern Western animation is nothing but lazy bean mouth shows and fat dad sitcoms, then sure. Let him explain, intellectually why these shows don’t work, and then we can compare his opinion, on an intellectual level with those that laud the work, and why we should agree or disagree. If, conversely, Enter merely chooses to whine about adult cartoons, romance (I bet dollars to donuts a big complaint of his during Jack Season 5 will be the romance and adult content), and go They Changed It, Now It Sucks!, it’s going to further destroy his already tattered reputation, and the value of his opinion, if there is any value left to be had.

Ooh Red Matrix code, so EDGY and DARK! So BADASS guyz! He's a rebel against the system. I'm not feeling it especially with him going after targets that a lot of people like I think he is gonna go for a self-fufilling prophecy here. He'll say people hate him for his fiction opinions, then deliberatly try to get a rise out of people by doing a review badly for shows and movies he doesn't really care for but he'll have no passion in them. Just like his Nick 'O Rama reviews.

[up][up] Thing is despite the success of each of those things there is something to criticize. For instance, why is the fan base more obsessed with the meme aspect of Pickle Rick rather than the criticism it heaps on Rick? For Samurai Jack, was the romance subplot necessary or was it just tacked on to give the series a bittersweet ending? But if Enter is still calling his show “Animated Atrocities” I kind of doubt thoughtful analysis is the point. There’s stuff there to examine but the point of the show is to tear down not to be constructive.

[up] Isn’t a red and black background usually a sign of the alt-right? I don’t really have any proof but I kind of feel like that’s a reoccurring trend.

[up]I don't think so. I think it is just The Matrix 's code turned red when something instense happens in those movies. But he choose the thumbnail, probably cause he wants to be edgy.

[up] The alt-right co-opting imagery from a movie made by two trans women is always going to piss me off.

This upcoming reviews... uggh. I don't have high expectations. My faith in this guy is at an all-time low, and I think he's just chasing controversy at this point.

Yeah, the reason why Mr Enter ripping into these popular things isn't so much that these works are above criticism (Pickle Rick itself and that episode's [and later the series as a whole] hardcore fans have been targets of mockery and called cringe for aaaages now, and I remember Samurai Jack S5 copping a lot of flack for using the Born Sexy Yesterday trope)

It's more that, even as his best, his reviews have never been the most insightful or analytical.

And it's also preeeetty obvious that he's doing this as a publicity stunt to bait attention since he's doing these four acclaimed works in a row.

[up] also I have no idea why he would consider Your Name an atrocity besides being a publicly stunt. Like the others I get, he's complained about them in the past, but he's never brought up Your Name before. Is it the fact that it's a romance? Was it like Madoka that it was a Patreon request?

For sure it's because it's a romance. Which goddamn, I get it, I might be asexual as well, but even I know a good romance when I see one.

Like... what compels a person to make a whole review of a film that's in a genre they know they have a strong aversion to and, thusly, are not going to like out of principle.

I could only assume bait because while I can't say for sure because I've never watched "Your Name", I'm pretty sure critique HAS been made of it - because no piece of media is without flaws - tackling a film in a genre you don't like, in a medium that you don't typically analyse (Enter generally steers clear of anime reviews) seems like you're just setting yourself up for failure. So to speak

I gaurentee you his review is going to be 1) Complaining about it being a romance and 2) Hype Backlash shit with indignant "THIS IS JAPAN'S HIGHEST GROSSING ANIME MOVIE EVER? OVER [weeb approved Good Anime Movie here/Ghibli film]!? AND IT REVIEWED WELL? IT'S SOOOO STEREOTYPICAL ROMANCE! YUCKY!"

I’m beginning to wonder why we have a forum dedicated to Enter, it doesn’t seem like anyone posting here likes him very much. Lately all we’re doing is circle jerking about his upcoming reviews.

[up][up]People in this thread in the past used to be more friendly towards Enter. The people in here mostly turned completely on him when he made this inane alt-right rant about masks, the protests, speaking in favor of Trump, and so on.

If someone you used to like goes off the deep end and spews bullshit they should be criticized.

I’m not saying people shouldn’t criticize him, they should and I know that the criticism hasn’t gotten nearly as nasty as it could. I just find it strange that no one seems to like Enter anymore and yet people are still posting on this forum. I guess it doesn’t really matter since it’s full of former fans. Maybe I’m just more annoyed that we seem to be restating the same points. Sorry about that.

It should be noted that until the announcement of his next set of videos, there was an almost two month gap between posts on this thread.

Usually, that's what happens with a thread on something people used to like, there's a long period time between posts until either news drops or someone posts after a decent amount of time.

[up][up] I don’t really like him at all, at first it was just his reviews now it’s because of his far right opinions. I guess I just find it strange that this forum exists for a You Tuber who should have fallen into the sea of other obscure crappy You Tube review shows a long time ago.

[up]While he was always contentious, when he stayed in his lane, so to speak, he was respected as having a decent critical eye. I’d say the problem is that now he’s journeyed outside of that and showed just how limited his knowledge base is, his refusal to do research, and his Single-Issue Wonk in romance stories that has pretty much burned off the goodwill he had built up over the years. So he wasn’t always treated as being a know it all who knows nothing, but he’s exposed himself as such.

Still, if we are doing nothing but piling on the guy, maybe it’s not worth keeping this thread around. Just that it always wasn’t like that.
