This moment will never not make me laugh.

Presumably, the Queen planned to change back. But I'd love an alternate ending where the Queen doesn't die, gets back to the castle, and realizes the transformation is permanent, Twilight Zone style.

Hah.

She definitely didn't see the Irony.

Though obviously, she was going to (try to, because we don't actually know if her transformation was reversible or not) change herself back.

Or would have if not for coming down with an unfortunate case of being dead.

She had the presence of mind to check if there was an antidote to the permanent sleep, so I assume she at least made sure that she wouldn’t look like an old witch forever.

Though it would have been hilarious if she had come back to the castle alive only to be promptly kicked out by the guards. tongue

[up]I'm pretty sure she left by a secret entrance.

But what you said is legitimately funny, so lets just pretend I'm wrong on that.

Honestly, she'd have won if she'd taken a few seconds less to gloat. She only ended up dying because the Dwarves caught her leaving and chased after her.

She probably should have gotten herself a horse as well.

How old is Scrooge McDuck? I haven’t thought about it for a while, but I rather liked reading that part in the Moment of Awesome section for DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp. Even with his advanced age, Scrooge was perfectly eager and willing to get into a fist fight with Merlock. Aka the Evil Sorcerer who spent his immortal life practically somersaulting over the Moral Event Horizon. cool

Isn't it part of Rosa's thing that all of Scrooge and company's adventures take place in the 1950's? Because Scrooge is supposed to have taken part in the Alaskan Gold Rush as a young man, which would put him well over 100 now.

I just figured Scrooge had access to the Fountain of Youth, or some other life-extending thing. It would be entirely in keeping with the kinds of adventures he's had.

@ Demetrios: I loved that moment too. I always enjoy it when someone gets to punch the awesomely powerful untouchable sorcerer in the face.

Say, is there a trope for that kind of thing? Kind of like Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu? only literally punching Cthulu?

Scrooge was born in the early 1867 in Glasgow to the Mc Duck's and were a family famed enough to have a castle but the clan had fallen upon hard times by the time of Scrooges birth. Rosa claims he died at 100 but other accounts claim he lives well into the future.

L & T I think does a very good job showing how Scrooge got where he is but also why he turned out the way he is in the future. A slightly miserly business man with a bit of a soft side and a passion for adventure that he can't deny.

Life and Times as a series + Carl Bark's stories generally show that the Donald and Nepthews came (back) into Scrooges life when he must of been hitting around 80-90 - it's implied that Donald and the boys giving a chance is what gave him a new lease on life and maybe helped him understand the one thing he was missing in life.

[up][up][up]DuckTales (2017) definitely went with the magical life extension interpretation - Scrooge was born in 1867, but he's still around in the 2010s thanks to said magic.

That show had a lot of centennials running around: not just Scrooge, but both of his parents, his sister Matilda, Goldie O'Gilt, Rockerduck, Ponce de Leon, Bradford Buzzard and Ludwig von Drake. And that's not counting all the supernatural entities.

... Slightly miserly? Excuse me? I think someone has been watching too much Ducktales. grin

[up] I mean, Donald should be an octogenarian by now. They never address that part. Most writers just quietly ignore the whole age thing and have them run on Comic-Book Time.

Also, they live in a fictional reality inhabited by Funny Animals - no reason its history should line up perfectly with our own.

So elementals has a budget of 200 million per the Hollywood reporter and mixed reviews. (Why? Across the spiderverse is pretty Good looking and that cost only half this. Do pixar have no control over this.) Seems another Pixar bomb is on the horizon.

[up][up] Actually, most writers, especially Barks and Rosa, go to great lengths to show that their history parallels our own. Especially in Life and Times, which is all about how Scrooge was a part of that history.

The Duck universe is generally our world and our history with animal people in it. There are some exceptions, like Paperinik, but those are exceptions to the rule, not the norm.

Many Duck writers do that thing, though, where some countries (mostly Western or former colonies) are more accurately portrayed, with their real world names and cultures, while others (mostly Asian and African countries) get made up names and cultures only vaguely resembling real world Asians and Africans. There is no China or Russia in the Duckiverse, but there is a US and Scotland, and an Australia and India. And instead of Russia we get Brutopia, for instance.

[up]They have a similar attitude toward historical figures too. Some keep their own names (like Genghis Khan), others get replaced by a No Historical Figures Were Harmed version with an animal pun in their name (like George Mallardy or Emperor Swanstantine).

We might be jumping the gun by saying it's a bomb (not saying it won't be, so don't toss it aside yet), but I had to Google what you said about Elemental and ATSV's budgets and holy crap, at $100 million, ATSV is actually more economical than Elemental while looking to be the way more crazy (and exciting and popping, etc.) of the two.

That's incredible and insane and I'm going to be livid if we don't see an ATSV sweep during awards season. (Sorry, Pixar! No hard feelings!)

Yeah but this is leading to films that need to make insane amounts to be profitable (when effects wise. Films half the budget look just as good). Like pixar/Disney absolutely need to reign it in.

I Mean the last film they release barely crawled to 200 million. And this film has terrible reviews. (56 on meta critic).

I don't think it's that big a stretch to say it won't do well.
