Very belated embed:
Ah, Denuvo... That POS resource-hog bloatware that turns me off from buying otherwise good games on Day One and adds unnecessary game development/publishing expenses. And that's on top of existing "Always Online" DRM and EULAs that state that "the game is licensed, not sold."
It's almost funny how those who play the cracked version have a relativelyNote better time playing the game while those who paid for a legit copy are punished with DRM bullshit and are more likely to be inconvenienced if the official game servers go down (upgraded to "This Is Gonna Suck" once the same servers inevitably shut down).
That said, Denuvo has since become a go-to acceptable target for those sick of DRM and The Chew Toy for warez groups who've since become experts at cracking it. However, there is a new DRM that's basically Denuvo's more sinister Spiritual Successor: UWP, or the Universal Windows Platform on Windows 10. A DRM built into an OS. And considering Windows 10 already has its laundry list of questionable issues, that makes me even more hesitant to use Windows 10 once I get an AMD Ryzen rig, despite Windows 10 practically being the required OS for it.

"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."Like I said before, Denuvo was the motherfucking shitcock that infected Sonic Mania and Tales of Berseria with its presence. If it managed to infect the new Killer Instinct on Steam I'd be ready to declare open fucking warfare on it because it never works and it just punishes the paying customer more than it punishes pirates, like any DRM honestly.
Just fucking give it up, media companies. Or at least admit you only care about our money.
Here is a hint: Make games that people would like to buy that doesn't scam the consumer. That way games are less likely to pirate games.
I wonder what is Jim's opinion on the VG As 2018. Did you know a single player game won the Best Game of the Year award? I thought they were supposed to be dead, or so EA told me
Uni catSome companies make intentionally make versions of their games that lack key functionality or are otherwise impossible to complete, and release that version to the popular filesharing sites. As well as being hilarious, I suspect that's a more effective way to curb piracy because paying customers get the full game, and since there appears to be a gratis version in the torrents, people are less likely to try redistributing the real one because it looks like someone else has already done it.
Ukrainian Red CrossY Eah, I was gonna say, there's versions of games that troll you if you pirate. Like the Arkham series, where if you play a pirated version, you can't glide, and you need that to get out of the first level. There was also some game that would throw up a shaders error that didn't actually exist, so people complained about it on the forums and got mass-banned because they had used a pirated version of the game.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.Settlers 3 made your iron smelters produce pigs if you pirated it.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.x3 Like Game Dev Tycoon (their method of Copy Protection was so meta ) and C&C: Red Alert 2's exploding base "bug"—those were the types of copy protection I could get behind.
Although with most "Triple AYYY" games nowadays, releasing an incomplete game full of glitches with promises of bug fixes and additional DL...err, "content" later on is beginning to be the new normal.
On a different note, after watching YouTube videos about Epic Games launching an online store to rival Steam and seeing Bethesda not selling Fallout 76 on Steam, that made me wonder if Doom Eternal will be a Bethesda Store(?) exclusive as well... With Steam's changes to profit-sharing with "Triple AYYY" publishers as a response to these developments, I also wonder if that will be enough to make Bethesda reconsider?
Also, Overlord Gaming has a couple of videos discussing UWP, here and here. It also has some insights into "The Scene", where various warez groups compete to be the first to crack the latest copy protection on new video games.

And it's also been confirmed that REmake 2 will have microtransactions in it.

Ukrainian Red CrossJim is going to blow a fucking gasket over that one.
If it's just for a bunch of costumes, I won't be as upset but....yeah, Capcom being Capcom. Can't even muster anger anymore.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. It's been a while since Capcom messed up.
Uni catI'm almost surprised Capcom didn't try to include them in Megaman 11.
This has made me a lot more apprehensive about DMC V's microtransaction system when it's finally released.

Honestly, I've got trouble feeling bad for the players "Left to dry". You're pitching your tent on a sinking ship. It's not like it was surprising or unexpected or not obvious that HOTS wasn't going to be much of a competitor against DOTA 2 and LOL in the eSports world, especially on the MOBA field.
Like, sure it sucks, but this isn't exactly coming out of nowhere.
It's like the people who invested in Ponzicoin, especially the second time it rolled around. I felt zero pity for people who didn't do their research and got burned because of it.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit....Ponzicoin?

Bitcoin currency
New theme music also a boxYeah you really were better off investing in Monopoly money.
Well, sure, I figured that, but... named after one of the most famous kinds of scheme? And people bought that?
x7 Do note that these players were paid a salary and everything. Blizzard gave them all a pink slip in a blog post without any warning or severance.
Yes. People bought it. And the creator did exactly what you'd expect with it, and fucked off to parts unknown with all the money.
Then he came back, and it happened again!

Qui odoratus est qui fecit....humanity keeps finding new ways to make me lose faith in them, even when I think I've already lost all of it.
I love how the Denuvo rep was like "Basically, if you complain about DRM, you're a software pirate who is also a My Little Pony fetishist whose information has been sold to Russia and the gaming community is better off without you, so shut up and don't complain."
10/10 PR there, mate.
Also, Greg's note about how he couldn't find an image to put when Jim was talking about pony-wanking... Just a fantastic "No. Just… No" Reaction moment.
