Yup.

I love gacha games. They're so bald-faced and upfront about just taking your money and giving you worthlessness in return. I actually work at a gambling hall so I know all the psychological tricks these systems use get people to keep spending money and I knew it would work on me if they gave it a coat of paint featuring anime girls in cool armor and here we are.

Fate as a whole is less than the sum of its parts. There's so much cool stuff going on for it but there's also a bunch of crap that makes it a slog at times to even understand.

While we're on the subject of Fate, here's a hot take: The original VN is without a doubt one of the worst parts of the entire franchise.

I don't actually think you'll meet much resistance on that one. Mostly people just make fun of the "Sex scenes" though. Or pothole to Seinfeld Is Unfunny.

But who else are we going to have fight from it? I want a good opponent for Mordred. People don't take her fighting style into accord nearly enough.

I prefer Zero honestly.

It helps that it has the least amount of otaku bullshit.

Sure its a sausage party but shit one gender-bend is better that a bunch of gender-bends.

Yuri Lowell or Ragna the Bloodedge maybe? They have similar Sword and Fist fighting styles and should be sitting on similar powerlevels.

That is an objectively wrong take. Like, the genderswaps are like the best parts of Fate and I wish more stuff did it.

Ragna Vs Mordred would be fuckawesome. Someone would probably try and ruin it with math but damn would that be a good fight if it was allowed to be.

Mordred is "More Sword" and Ragna is "More Fist". Mordred's wearing armor (And averts Armor Is Useless except for fanservice. Which is... Frequent.) but Ragna can lifesteal so the fight would definitely be prolonged. Unfortunately Ragna likely has more bullshit protagonist powerups, but I never actually played the final game on account of no english dub.

Also: Yes Fate genderswaps are awesome I love pretty much all of them. Bit iffy on Altera, but she winds up fun because of memes.

The only gender-swap I like or am okay with is Arotoria & Mordred & even then barring her armor Mordred needs a wardrobe change.

The rest are shite. Really I don’t know which one to despise more, Altera or Jack.

..... Wait a minute I think most of the bends are just variations of Artoria anyway.

Arturia is still cringey because of the Fate route and its "hurr durr, ur still a wimman Saber!" and Mordred is either agender or trans depending on the translation.

Altera has a cool design but I'm not big on her lore, while Jack is just hilarious and adorable.

That's what annoys me about Altera. Her being Attila the Hun has absolutely no bearing on her character. You can take away her being Attila & nothing would change. Its a wasted historical figure.

Jack desperately needs a wardrobe change but fucking lolicons what can you do about them? (Shrugs Arms)

At least she's not the real Jack, she's just one of many possible phantoms who could be.

I remember discussing possible opponents with a friend of mine for Mordred including Kylo Ren, Kenpachi Zaraki, Sasuke, Dante, or Delsin when discussing potential Mordred fights. With exception of Kenny, you got the whole rebellion theme (Dante and Delsin against government, Sasuke did plan a coup by assassinating the Kages and bring revolution), serious family drama (Kylo, Sasuke, argubly Dante), being considered lesser to their previous installment (Dante to Classic and best Saber Mord to Boring-outside-her-alt-classes Artoria), and a general blood lusted warrior combat who forge a new bond akin to family (Kenny to Yachiru, Sasuke to Naruto, Dante to Kat, and Mordred to Shishio. Bonus points for Shishio and Kenny sharing their ENG voice actors).

As for Jack, I mean, there's False Berserker from strange/fake, who can shapeshift and lacks a true form

One of my favorite moments with Jack was her fumbling for a phone text while covered in blood and knee deep in corpses. Shame about the outfit.

I thought Mordred's hangups regarding her gender began and ended with the women=weak mentality that permeated the age she lived in (And only the age she lived in sexism does not exist anywhere else) and her extreme desire to be seen as strong. Although, as has been stated, given Artoria's arc in the VN it's hard to trust Fate with issues like that.

Those are all epic choices. I figure she'd stomp Kylo and Kenpachi, don't know what Sasuke does later in the series. Dante would probably be the most even fight there.

Delsin's lopsided both ways. He's slippery AF (Guy can turn into smoke) and has some attacks that could metaphorically dent Mordred's armor. But if she got her hands on him the fight would be over instantly. Delsin would need to play keep-away to a ridiculous degree. It would be fun to write as a cat-and-mouse hunt with a lot of combat by verbal abuse.

Okay I'm not sure how strong Mordred is but I don't think she's that strong.

Though shit I clocked out half-way through Apo so what do I know.

If it wasn't for the blatant lolicon pandering I prolly wouldn't have minded Jack much honestly.

tbf, Kenny's insanely durable by now. Not only by slicing a meteorite that was large enough to threaten Soul Society and atomize it, but merely tripping a kaiju sized Gerard AFTER losing a hefty amount of blood (even by Bleach standards), getting his arms snapped apart thanks to his Bankai, and getting tossed around - by only digging his fingers into the guy's foot.

As for Sasuke... I don't think Mordred would be able to counter amaterasu or genjutsu. And Sasuke's a slippery and tricky bastard thanks to Amenotejikara, Shinra Tensei, and having better mobility and defense in general. And that's if we're not including moves from the game, which generally go absurd◊

Mordred would stomp Kylo, and Delsin. If it's EOS Sasuke she'd be the one getting stomped. Kenpachi and Dante should be the only one sitting in the same ballpark. Though I think Nero, Ichigo or Grimmjow would be a more appropriate opponent as far as Bleach and DMC are concerned.

Thinking more on it... or likely because its 4 in the morning and I'm having trouble sleeping... I ended up thinking Fujiwara no Mokou. Mokou and Mordred have the tomboyish battle loving red theme going, both are more like the black sheep of their family and have close ties to their nation's most recognized legends. Was going to say Seija or Sukuna, but they fit better. The only problem being that Mordred has no answer to Mokou's immortality.

Touhou's also a great deal more OP than Fate, Mokou included. Someone like Sol Badguy would be a better matchup for her, what with both being fire users that are also people of mass destruction with really casual fighting styles.

Because of game mechanics Mokou can only take as much punishment as anyone else in her level rank.

After that she’s exhausted from resurrecting too many times and couldn’t resist even if someone wanted to hypothetically eat her liver.

She’s not dead though which might be a sticking point for a death battle.

Theres also the interesting implication that immortality aside Mokou has a squishy human body which can’t handle the power she’s pumping through it which is why she keeps exploding

It’s fairly difficult to get feats for her or for any touhou character really. Anyone can survive getting hit by a train in the fighting game or getting a sun thrown in their face but the setting uses a non lethal combat system so ??

Kenpachi's Zanpakuto is able to literally cut through anything... and that's just with his Shikai. That alone means he poses a significant threat to anyone who specializes in melee combat... and even people that don't. His primary weakness is that — Razor Wind aside — he's limited to melee combat, and his bankai is more powerful than his body can handle.

Mordred is stated to be identical to her (according to Nasu, Mordred is a girl — albeit a very masculine one) "father" in every way; though in actuality her Parameters are inferior to Artoria/Altria's. Her Noble Phantasm, Clarent, is actually weaker than it should be on account of her having stolen it; and doesn't boost her Parameters like it normally would. She is able to use The Power of Hate to force it to fire a crimson Sword Beam that can kill up to 800 people in one blast.

Given Zaraki's absurd durability and Nozarashi's ability to cut through anything, it's unlikely that Mordred would fare well against him in melee combat. Whether Clarent: Blood Arthur would be able to seriously injure him is another up-in-the-air question.

When was Nozarashi stated to cut anything? All sources I can find just say it increases Kenpachi's cutting power, which is still freakishly strong but not as gamebreaking. Otherwise he and Mordred should still be about even in stats unless Mordred scales to someone stronger than the Knights of the Round. Kenny should have the advantage if he goes Bankai (provided he's able to get a good hit before Power Incontinence rears its ugly head), but Mordred should have the advantage in range and general skill.

EDIT: Just remembered Mordred killed their father in life. That could give them the boost needed to defeat Kenpachi.

I don't know about Fate/Grand Order, but nothing like that is mentioned in Apocrypha at least. As far as I can tell, Mordred's official position on gender is "don't refer to me as a woman, if you do I will stab you to death." and "referring to me as a man is fine as long as you aren't a try-hard about it".

(there's also Mordred referring to himself as "The son of King Arthur" roughly 3,082 times lol)

She has hang-ups about the whole king thing. Artoria was king and had to considered as a man by everyone around her. Mordred was "his" heir, but couldn't claim the throne or even be acknowledged by her "father."

TBF, "King" can be a gender neutral term, especially in Japanese works. I myself just tend to use gender neutral pronouns regarding them when I can help it.

Artoria says she had to pretend to be a man. I didn't make that up.
