Go ahead with dividing; we're pretty unanimous here, and crowners are only necessary for changing names and descriptions.
Ukrainian Red CrossOkay, to summarize...
We are proposing reorganizing the trope list along a categorization paradigm:
Current category proposals:
- Setting: Settings and Setting-centered tropes.
- Narrative: Well, Exactly What It Says on the Tin - Narrative Tropes.
- Gameplay: Again, quite straightforward - Game Tropes.
- Themes: Motifs and Central Themes.
- Meta: Meta-Concepts and Trope Tropes.
Notes:
- A category will only need to be folderized/split into a subpage if it's long enough to warrant such a measure.
- Characterization Tropes, tropes under Characters, and all other "Character-centric" tropes that do not belong under any of the above categories would be shuttled to the Character Sheets as necessary.
Next, adding Character Sheet subsections for plot-important individuals:
- The God-Emperor of Mankind
- The Primarchs - with the most prominent being: Horus (first of the Primarch to be found by the Emperor), Sanguinius (whom Horus actually considered more worthy to be the Emperor's successor when the latter conferred the Warmaster title on Horus), Roboute Guilliman (he and his Legion were largely the reason the Imperium did not collapse upon itself in the wake of the Horus Heresy, for one), and Magnus the Red (if the Emperor had reacted differently to his warning about Horus...). Two for the Loyalists, two for the Traitors; seems fair, no?
- The four Gods of Chaos
- The most distinguished non-Primarch Chaos Champions; namely: Abaddon the Despoiler (Chaos Undivided), Kharn the Betrayer (Khorne), Typhus (Nurgle), Ahriman (Tzeentch), and Lucius the Eternal (Slaanesh).
- Historical Imperial galaxy-scale VIP figures: Ollanius Pius, legendary saint of the Imperial Guard (rest of the site is largely NSFW) and arguably the most badass character in the entire setting; Goge Vandire, Sebastian Thor, Lord Macharius (of the Macharian Crusade), Inquisitor Kryptmann (foremost Imperial authority on fighting Tyranids to date), and Ciaphas Cain, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!
EDIT: Fixed the opening line.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Emperor on a Baneblade, people are going way overboard trying to up the ante on the outrageousness of the intro. This needs to be pared down with extreme prejudice before it gets completely out of hand.
Overall, I like that idea. I'd also suggest that any tropes that specifically apply to only one faction/character/whatever that are on the Character list be culled from the main list...this is one case where the redundancy really doesn't help anything.

Shouldn't that be "Emperor in an Imperator Titan"?
... Wait, there's still redundancy in the main list? I thought it was dealt with already.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. It may have been, I haven't gone through the list to make sure. My eyes glazed over at the intro...
If I get time tonight, I'll try to get that back into some semblance of order.

Agreed on Ollanius Pius getting an entry. Man needs more love.
Do not be so quick to make foolish offers, Daemon. Araghast too once thought I would be an asset to his cause. Look what has become of him.edited 12th May '11 8:22:43 PM by Willbyr
I approve. Now we're left with culling the redundancies in the main trope lists.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I'd be willing to write the character pages for people like the God-Emperor of Mankind and some of the Primarchs. T Hough, I'll have to ask for Wiki Magic to generate complete tropes lists.
"If everything on Earth were rational, nothing would ever happen." ~Fyodor DostoevskyThanks. I'd like to get at least one more yea before I put this on the page...think I'll head to the Tabletop Games forum.
Looks like a definite improvement to me.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffAlright, the intro changes have been made.
Honestly, a bit of the page's charm was the rather legendary intro...I kind of wish people would just revert it to the way it was six months ago, rather than edit-warring it to death.
Do we have a namespace for Self Demonstrating Articles?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. That charm quickly devolved into a complete wankfest about its outrageous-ness and ruined what was there...it needed a purging, badly.
I think we would use SelfDemonstrating.Warhammer 40000 for the self demonstrating page. Check Brian Blessed.
Fight smart, not fair.If we are going to change the description to something less GRIMDARK, I propose that we instead take the opposite tack — turn everything into a massive Understatement.
It actually looks pretty good. Tropes are organized and everything. Can we get this locked, or is there more to do?
This has yet to be done... mostly because I'm waiting for others to pitch their opinions first to get a feel for what the "consensus" is on the issue.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. My only reservation about trying to reorganize the tropes is that I dunno if it would be any more economical of a move in terms of page space than the way they are now. This isn't like the Evangelion page where, while there are a buttload of tropes, there's not so much material that it goes over the character limit.
I like the idea of beefing up the character pages in the ways suggested, but I wouldn't be much help at all.

"Agreed on Ollanius Pius getting an entry. Man needs more love. "
How does a character whos entire presence in the setting is a single caption for a twenty-year-old painting - a character who may never have existed - "need more love"?
This might enlighten you to the character's significance. It never really hit me just how awesome Ollanius Pius until I came across this article and saw him in a new light.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I agree on splitting it into Setting, Narrative, etc. I'm going to try and round up some tropes and categorise them in the sandbox, but I can't really be of much help due to not actually playing the game.
Should we make a crowner, or proceed with dividing tasks?
