- Dawson Casting: Isla Fisher was 45 in Season 1, when she played a woman who was presumably in her early 30s ( who was still young enough to get pregnant).
- Diagnosed by the Audience: It's apparent that Emma is Clinically Depressed, being explicitly described antidepressants, but it's not stated if she might have PTSD as well.
- Gary is probably Clinically Depressed as well, considering his fixation on being a dad to his daughter and still mourning his late wife.
- Mary probably has PTSD, both because of the werewolf attack and having been turned into a monster because of it (Lycanthropy can easily be a metaphor for PTSD due to the trope of it being transmitted by violent attack).
- He Really Can Act: Josh Gad is primarily a comedic actor, best known as the voice of Olaf in Frozen (2013). This series is his very first serious, adult-focused role, and it's clear that he absolutely nails it.
- Late-Arrival Spoiler: Mary being pregnant with Gary's baby heavily features in the promotional images for season 2.
- Narm: Mary's Catapult Nightmare at the beginning of season 2, where her unborn baby turns into a werewolf, rips itself out of her womb, and attacks everyone at the wedding starts out horrific, but it quickly swerves into this trope, especially once Emma, her flower-girl outfit as drenched in blood as Mary's wedding dress, exasperatedly asking "Why did you do this?!".
- Special Effect Failure: Mary's werewolf form at the end of season 1 is quite obviously a guy in a pantomime body-puppet, which is why it only appears on-screen in the season 1 finale, and even then with just a few glimpse shots.
- No longer the case in season 2, where the practicial effects have improved with a more convincing suit.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: In season 1, Gary was 'merely' a clumsy driver and socially awkward. In season 2 he crosses into this, committing several thefts, assaults, property damages, and even a Felony (stealing an ambulance), to uphold The Masquerade.
- Visual Effects of Awesome: While the werewolf puppet for Season 1 was a bit cheap, it still stylistically looked horrifyingly cool, and the CGI used for the more faraway shots are notably more realistic, making most unable to tell it's CGI at first glance.
