YMMV / The King of Fighters (2010)

  • Questionable Casting:
    • Needless to say, the last thing one would expect of a character named Kyo Kusanagi is for it to be played by a guy that is obviously Caucasian (which only makes the film's attempts of justifying it by claiming that he's half-Japanese, half-American make even less sense).
    • Ray Park isn't exactly the most imposing man in the world, so casting him as Rugal, one of the most imposing bosses in fighting game history, comes across as bizarre. At least he had fun in the role.
    • To a lesser extent, Maggie Q as Mai. While finding an actress with the same... well, "assets" as Mai would've been quite a task, a lot of fans still question why they got a flat-chested actress, especially since in the end her performance isn't anything to write home about nor is it faithful to the character at all to at least make up for that.
  • Memetic Mutation: Some KOF fans like to joke that Saigado’s doujinshis are more faithful adaptations of KOF than this movie. In case you wanna know…
  • Retroactive Recognition: CIA Agent Terry Bogard is played by David Leitch, who would later become famous for making the John Wick films alongside fellow stunt coordinator Chad Stahelski, and later directed Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw alone.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: More like "They Wasted a Perfectly Good Casting Choice". Casting Ray Park, on paper, sounds like having struck casting gold, given that this is the same guy who played Darth Maul. Unfortunately, the filmmakers decided to cast him as Rugal, one of the most imposing bosses in fighting game history, even though Park isn't exactly the most imposing man in the world. Unsurprisingly, a lot of fans think that he should've played Billy Kane instead... y'know, an acrobatic guy who uses a two-handed staff in the same vein as Darth Maul's lightsaber?
  • Video Game Movies Suck: The movie is a hot mess, essentially being a KOF movie In Name Only. Problems include (but are not limited to) white-washing Kyo, turning Mai and Terry into CIA agents for no reason, and a nonsensical plot about a "King of Fighters" dimension.
