YMMV / Star Wars Vader Dark Visions

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Darth Vader killing his Stalker with a Crush in Issue #3. We all saw it coming, but his intent behind it is subject for debate. Was it just another trademark Dark Side Disproportionate Retribution towards an idiotic loon for daring to enter his quarters while meditating unmasked and confess her love for him? Did Vader perhaps feel sorry for the nurse and decide to Mercy Kill her? The fact that he went for a quick kill via his lightsaber rather than the usual long, painful Force choke suggests that the latter may be the case. His blank facial expression while doing the deed suggests that he did feel at least some pity for her, but it can also be interpreted as annoyance, boredom or even Tranquil Fury.
  • Awesome Moments: In Issue #1, Vader takes on the Ender, a towering monster that had ravaged Cianap's civilization and forced its native people to live primitive lives in fear underground, in a truly spectacular battle and wins.
  • Broken Base: Issue #3 wherein a nameless nurse obsesses over Vader only for him to kill her which many fans saw as a Take That! to popular villains Misaimed Fandoms. Some saw it as a good criticism of the Draco in Leather Pants mindset that's so prevailing in fandom especially by showing that romanticizing such cruel people can be dangerous. Others saw it as a petty Take That, Audience! and view the comparison of an unhealthy relationship to people enjoying fictional villains a terrible false equivalence.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: A lot of people knew what would happen when the nurse went as far as to go into Vader's chambers and see him unmasked, but given how the only real emotion he shows is to casually stab her after hearing her Love Confession, it’s not hard to imagine that even he thinks she's crazy.
  • Fan Nickname: The unnamed nurse from issue #3 has been named Daaé by fans due to similarities between her (imagined) relationship with Vader and Christine's relationship with the Phantom. The name also fits with the Letter Motif of Naboo characters with accented E's at the ends of their names. "Leira" is a commonly accepted surname.
  • Memetic Mutation: The two panels depicting Darth Vader's melancholy annoyance at the nurse seeing him without his helmet have become a popular reaction image among Star Wars fans.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: A mostly forgotten, So Okay, It's Average miniseries that's only remembered for the controversial Issue #3 and debates over whether this was an unfair Take That, Audience! to villain-loving fans, especially female fans.
  • The Woobie: The nurse. She may have been delusional and a lunatic, but it's still easy to feel sorry for her. She's treated horribly throughout the story by her fellow Imperials and, as deranged as she may be, she was probably the first person in ages to show any true affection to Vader. The fact that even Vader himself seems to kill her out of pity instead of rage clearly says something.
