YMMV / SLVR

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The themes of Team SLVR are all rather impressive, especially since they were composed by Brandon Yates:
    • Lycan's theme "King of Anything" has Yate's signature rock style, and it fits Lycan's hot-blooded approach.
    • The Regalia Trailer theme "Drawing Down The Moon" is noteworthy, matching the mysterious and "witch"-like theme of Ragora before it quickly kicks into Yate's signature rock style, plus a haunting piano performance.
    • "A Shot In The Dark" is Team SLVR's theme, and it matches all the characteristics of the team down to a T.
    • The themes from some Trailers were either English cover or instrumental version of themes from known series. And they still made the Trailers awesome because of that.
  • Broken Base: Fans of Zhang's work are split between whether or not SLVR should be made an official spin-off of RWBY. On the one hand, him having a team to work with would let him expand the story, but detractors have cited Kerry and Miles's handling of RWBY post-Volume 3 as the reason why it would be better for SLVR to remain a fan series.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: When Charcoal was unveiled to all of YouTube, the RWBY FNDM exploded and quickly praised the fan series for how closely it mirrored Monty's signature style.
  • Evil Is Cool: Before Pandora was revealed to be an antagonistic group, Brandon's design was quite exquisite.
  • Genius Bonus: In true RWBY fashion, each of the named characters has references to fairy tales, literature and history. One example being how Brandon's name is a reference to the creator of the Philosopher's Stone, Nicholas Flammel.
  • Growing the Beard: While the Charcoal Trailer was received with overwhelming praise, many noted how stiff or rigid the movements felt. The Silver Trailer showed off style that perfectly matched Monty's own. The Regalia Trailer is the beard at maximum length.
  • He Really Can Act: Morgan Berry aside, some of the voice actors are new to the scene, but they all deliver amazing performances, despite having a few voiced lines.
  • Moe: Vella is rather adorable, and the head thing that's Ragora's semblance is kind of cute too. In its own way.
  • Only the Creator Does It Right: Part of the Broken Base above.
  • Shocking Moments: The Charcoal Trailer was seen as a "prototype" to the SLVR series, so Zhang showing off the Armor in Linen came as a surprise and made fans wonder if Brandon is an actual character in the series. The Regalia Trailer revealing the Armors to be mooks of Pandora also make it ambiguous as to whether or not if Brandon is an antagonist if he is still present.
  • Signature Scene: The action in the trailers for Charcoal, Silver, and Regalia has more or less what garnered Mark Zhang's newfound reputation.
