YMMV / Progress Wrestling

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Since a lot of the entrance music in Progress is outside music a lot of the wrestlers entrance themes are great for example:
  • Broken Base: Fans are split on how good WWE's working relationship with the company has been for them, as it does offer more financial security, and occasional appearances by NXT regulars like Kyle O'Reilly or Kassius Ohno, but at the same time it also means that any of the Progress regulars under WWE contract can't interact with anyone signed to ROH, Impact, NJPW, or AEW which is basically half of the rest of the roster. Mainstays like Will Ospreay, Zack Sabre Jr and Jimmy Havoc left because they just had nothing to do anymore.
  • Fan Nickname:
    • Almost as soon as Progress announced they were going to have a heavyweight division, people started calling it "The Big Lads' Division".
    • The team of Mark and Vicky Haskins, Jimmy Havoc and Flash Morgan Webster, who have no official name, has been dubbed "Entropy" by fans. There's been a few hints on social media that this is their intended name, but if that is the case, none of them have officially stated it. Prior to Webster joining they were also known by some fans as "Triple Ha".
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Dahlia Black and Pollyanna had a match with the stipulation that any outside interference would get both of them fired. Within 2 years both of them had actually stopped wrestling in Progress.
    • The Speaking Out movement hit Progress so hard that there isn't actually a single show in the first 100 Chapters that didn't feature someone who'd been accused of either sexual misconduct or helping bully others into silence about it.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Shortly after Pete Dunne became Progress World Champion, giving the stable British Strong Style all the gold in Progress, they cut a promo stating that the belts were just a bunch of props they would use to sign WWE contracts with. Literally 2 weeks later, they were all announced as participants in a tournament to crown the WWE UK Champion, and Tyler Bate had become the champion, while Dunne defeated Bate for the title 4 months later.
  • Ho Yay: Lots between Jack Sexsmith and David Starr, they're practically a couple whenever they tag team as Sexy Starr. Before their match at Chapter 56, Sexsmith is announced as 'David Starr's main squeeze' and at Chapter 64, the two of them kiss (after Jack loudly declares that Starr's dick is his). At SSS 16 2018 Night One, Sexsmith emerged into the arena with Starr and kissed him before sending him to the ring.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Alex Esmail wrestled at Chapter Two as half of tag team the Velocity Vipers with Will Ospreay. He’s now best known for his role as Pest in the acclaimed British sci-fi film Attack the Block.
  • The Scrappy: Lion Kid, a wrestler who was on only two shows, whenever someone jokingly suggests he returns on the Facebook group, the idea is met with disdain from pretty much everyone.
    • Joseph Connors has mostly been met with apathy and disdain since he debuted, his first match in Progress getting people chanting "Boring" and at least one person telling him to "Go back to Southside" (One of the main promotions he wrestles in.) This got to the point where after his match with Pete Dunne the crowd uncharacteristically chanted "Don't come back" at him after the match.
    • Will Ospreay just could not get a Progress crowd to like him after the Pollyanna incident, which is as much a factor in his departure as his NJPW commitments.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: During 2019's Super Strong Style 16 David Starr who was going all in on his independent wrestler gimmick and Trevor Lee who was really playing up being a WWE guy down to making his entrance wearing an NXT jacket never crossed paths or interacted in any way. This may have been due to Executive Meddling from WWE.
  • Win Back the Crowd: Season One of Freedom's Road was given mixed reviews for several reasons: first, the episodes were much shorter compared to the ENDVR shows, which they'd replaced; second, while there were a couple of plot threads, the series had no real contained plot and little actual character development; and third, without more character development or a solid connection to the chapters, there wasn't much reason to watch it. When it was announced at SSS 16 2018 that Season Two would be getting an entirely new plot (that would incorporate the plot threads from Season One) that was heading down a similar road to Lucha Underground, fan reaction was very positive.
