YMMV / Night of the Demons 2

Go To

  • Crazy Is Cool: Sister Gloria, to the point of being an Ensemble Dark Horse. She uses her yardstick like it's a sword, frequently puts Alpha Bitch Shirley in her place, and is quick to stomp out any bullying she sees. And then the demons show up, and she kicks ass.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Crazy Is Cool Mama Bear Sister Gloria and Terri (a Beta Bitch who is played by Christine Taylor and has some good Plucky Comic Relief and Everyone Has Standards moments) are both quite popular despite their arguably secondary roles.
  • Hollywood Homely: Melissa/Mouse dresses down and doesn't show off her attractiveness.
  • Narm:
    • The commentary admits that Terri and Kurt spend a ridiculously long time standing around looking scared as they listen to Shirley talk about her fake human sacrifice before making a move to stop her, stating that the script required a lot of suspense and dialogue for that scene, and for Shirley to actually be about to stab Mouse before they intervene.
    • The use of Stock Footage from the original movie is rather off-putting and hard to take seriously since viewers can clearly recognize scenes that were lifted straight out of the 1988 film, such as Angela moving down the hallway, since the first and second film were made several years apart.
  • Retroactive Recognition: The actress who played Bibi and Shirley's friend Terri eventually married Derek Zoolander.
  • Special Effect Failure: Most of the movie uses very good practical effects, which makes the CG lipstick snake at the end just look bad.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Downplayed; while the first film is considered superior to its sequels and remake, the second film is still well-received for its Black Comedy and for having considerably better fleshed-out teen characters than the ones in the first movie.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Melissa/Mouse has some powerful Protectorate moments, but many feel she should have been the main heroine due to her blood relationship and psychic connection with Angela plus some powerful Broken Bird moments.
  • Values Dissonance: Cristi Harris (Bibi) did a nude scene here at the age of sixteen. It's a wonder it got past censors at the time, and it definitely wouldn't fly nowadays.
  • The Woobie: Melissa lost her Cool Big Sis in a mysterious accident that caused her parents to commit suicide. After being sent to an orphanage, she suffers from horrific nightmares and is bullied frequently. She's forced to go to the house her sister died in for a Halloween party and is tricked into thinking she's going to be sacrificed to the Devil as part of a cruel and traumatizing prank. Then she's nearly sacrificed to the Devil for real, by the corrupted ghost of her own sister, who uses their past closeness to lure Melissa into a false sense of security. Give the poor girl a hug.
