• Arc Fatigue: The story moves at a very slow pace, not helped by the monthly releases and small page count per chapter. And given that by the time Minamoto had only found about half of his required girls, some audiences were already bored of the whole experiment and kept reading for the steamy scenes Minamoto would get into with the girls, or out of some desire to see their favored girl end up with him.
• Base-Breaking Character: Several women in the story are girls that the audience tends to be split on:
  • Arguably, Chisato Hanada is this. She's nice, she cooks, and is even willing to put up with everything the male says. The perfect woman, right? Not to some fans. As a result of this, some say that she's completely boring; making women, as a whole, look submissive and weak. What's more, many readers have interpreted her relationship with Terumi as taking her first steps in becoming a slut.
  • Several readers denounce Chuujou Tsukasa as an unlikeable slut due to torturing poor Terumi into having his current phobia and for sleeping with any guy she thinks is popular. However, she also has similar qualities to Terumi and arguably her mere presence moves the story along in an interesting manner. Tsukasa herself has many sides to her personality, making many of her fans looking forward to whenever she shows up again.
• Broken Base: Whether the series ended too early or not. Some were satisfied with how it ended as Terumi does in fact have sex with his aunt in the end. Others however were disappointed that it felt like it only told half the story when it came to the Tale of Genji where after all the girls are introduced in the first half, the second half revolved around the girls meeting one another, interacting, and even fighting over who gets to be with Genji.
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Some women Terumi meets in the story have a lot of popularity going for them, despite only being background characters. However, Tsukiko is a major one. She isn't considered a target (well, wasn't at least until Chapter 261) but her endearing personality, her love of the Genji story, the fact that she will support her friends in any way possible and that she's best friends with Asahi makes her a very strong character. It helps too that she's very attractive and has a very cute little sister.
• Epileptic Trees: The true nature of the Terumi/Kaoruko relationship gets a lot of speculation. Some even think that the very nature of the plan pegs him in the role of Lady Murasaki, as he's slowly being molded into not only an ideal man, but Kaoruko's idea of an ideal man.
• Fan-Preferred Couple: Seeing as how this is a series where the main character gets it on with a large variety of women, there are sure to be MANY of these.
  • Terumi and Hanada was seen as such a lovely Moe couple to some readers that people wanted Terumi to just ditch the whole Tale of Genji experiment for her.
  • Terumi and Tsukasa is also popular among readers; thinking that it's poetic irony that the girl who previously bullied Terumi ends up falling head-over-heels for him.
  • Terumi and Tsukiko is another good one as well, since they are able to talk with each other like closest friends and share the same perverted viewpoints.
• Just Here for Godzilla: Apparently, most readers of the manga are only in it for the Will They or Won't They? situation between Terumi and his hot aunt, if not for his varying sexual exploits with some of the targets (see the Memetic Mutation entry below.)
• Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Unsurprisingly, Terumi Minamoto is this. Not only is he set to have new ships with up to 14 different women for his Tale of Genji objective, he is also shipped with people who aren't even established targets.
• Les Yay: Rokujou gives this impression to Tsukiko, Asahi and other girls at the university due to hailing from an all girls university. It would actually start making sense as to why she's so interested in Terumi in the first place...
  • Kaoruko offers the opportunity for a steamy kiss to ensue between herself and Yuu. It almost happens...then Yuu vehemently puts a stop to it, saying that they're both women and can't be doing that sort of thing. Cue the collective groan of the audience.
  • FINALLY occurs in Chapter 163 when Rokujou makes out with Yuu, making this the first time a kiss between woman is shown on-screen.
  • Happens again in Chapter 166 when Rokujou forcefully makes out with Kaoruko.
• Memetic Mutation:
  • OH MY GOD, X PAGES!^ExplanationThe few times the mangaka develops more then the usual 9 pages per chapter (8 if you don't include the title page) drives many readers nuts.
  • If you're asking, not yet.^ExplanationNew chapters usually are followed up by somebody asking "Did he fuck the aunt?", in reference to the theory that the Hikaru Genji Plan was for Kaoruko to groom Minamoto into her ideal man, in the acompanying forum. After getting that question for so long, this ended up becoming the preemptive response.
• Moe: Could be argued that any of the girls Terumi has interacted with comes off as one of these; even Kaoruko who many have guessed is, quite possibly, still a virgin.
  • Chisato Hanada is basically the poster-girl as this. Her struggles to get along with men sure doesn't help any.
  • Shian Kowaka is undoubtedly this; Terumi remarks that she's a cute child upon first laying eyes on her.
    • Token Mini-Moe: When compared to the other women in this manga, particularly the other sex targets, Shian is also this.
• Squick:
  • Aoi shouting out "Daddy" continuously while taking Terumi's virginity away.
  • The thought of Terumi doing something remotely sexual with Kowaka Shian, who is 10 years old, is going to raise a few eyebrows. Viewers will have to trust in what Kaoruko is doing.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
  • Asahi. While she does get a pretty sizable arc to herself, she's one of the very few people Terumi doesn't completely sleep with in the story even to the very end, despite the mountains of sexual tension and longing she has with/for him.
  • This can be said about almost all the girls after their conquest arcs. They pop up from time-to-time afterwards, which possibly hints at another go with Terumi. However, these appearances end up never going anywhere. This is especially the case with the other early girls, like Aoi and Chisato, who some believe Terumi deserved another chance with them after the respective "daddy" and "premature ejaculation" incidents.
• Wham Episode: Chapter 180. Terumi finally meets up with his girlfriend Yuu after the beauty pageant...and finds out she's being transferred to Osaka.
• Writer Copout: Yuu Tokonatsu suddenly moving away to Osaka is this. At this point in the story, Yuu and Terumi were in a healthy relationship where it looked like the two could have gone on to live a happy life together. The sudden need to move away was introduced in the story simply to break Yuu and Terumi apart without having to go through some sort of break-up phase in the relationship, and have Terumi move onto the next girl in the Tale of Genji plan.
