- Awesome Music: None other than Elmer Bernstein provided the film's score.
- Moral Event Horizon: Jones only gets worse as time goes on, but he crosses it altogether when he not only sends his goons out to kill Leo Ryan and others accompanying him but also calls a meeting where every resident of Jonestown is to die by poisoning.
- One-Scene Wonder: James Earl Jones as Father Divine, a successful charismatic minister who Jones used as a role model.note Despite this, he's prominently billed in the credits.
- Questionable Casting: Ned Beatty turns in a good performance as Leo Ryan, but, outside of also being a middle-aged white man, doesn't resemble Ryan in the slightest. Ironically, the real Ryan looked quite a bit like Gene Barry, who played the No Historical Figures Were Harmed "Lee O'Brien" in the Exploitation Film Guyana: Crime of the Century.
- Retroactive Recognition: A fully-sighted Geordi LaForge is the Only Sane Man in Jones' flock. (Plus, Madge Sinclair, the actress who played his mother, also played Geordi's mother, as well as playing the mother to LeVar Burton's character in the short film Almos' A Man and the TV movie One In A Million: The Ron LeFlore Story.) And though he may be hard to spot, Joel Godard, the announcer of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, has an uncredited role.
