- Audience-Alienating Era: And that's putting it mildly, since it came from the highly controversial New 52. The basic idea was to attempt to perform a "Batgirling" of certain characters in the vein of what happened to Barbara Gordon in Batgirl (2011). Suddenly, you got a Batman who rides Powered Armor and is a member of the GCPD (it's James Gordon), a Superman with an exposed identity, very little powers and a popularity level so low, you'd think he was Spider-Man and a Hal Jordan who is running around as a renegade with a Badass Longcoat and a goofy green energy gauntlet. While some titles proved to be beloved, such as Superman: Lois and Clark, the line as a whole fell flat on its face, leading to the soft reboot of DC Rebirth.
- Replacement Scrappy: The Batman Beyond series stars the older Tim Drake from The New 52: Futures End as the titular character, after Terry McGinnis was killed. Fans were not happy about that.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: How many fans felt about the status quo changes, with the biggest basebreakers being James Gordon serving as Batman in Powered Armor, and Superman having his identity exposed.
- Too Good to Last: There were many who enjoyed the palette of non-traditional superhero books like Omega Men and Starfire (2015), and view DC Rebirth as a regression to homogenized superhero stories.
- WTH, Costuming Department?: The reactions to many of the costume changes, including Superman in a ragged t-shirt, a Batman that resembles Chappie, a Wonder Woman costume that takes the red, white, and blue scheme up to eleven, among others.
