YMMV / Cinderella Phenomenon

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: While there's no denying Hildyr is a villain now, there's some justification in story for the madness displayed, as during the Witch Hunt she felt the death of every witch as if it were her own. But even then, it was only after the king at the time voiced approval of the Hunt that she started wrecking everything to save her own kind from the humans.
  • Complete Monster: Hildyr is a witch who has a huge resentment towards humans. Prior to the main story, she murdered the ten-year-old daughter of her former friend, Delora, out of spite. She killed the then-king of Angielle, and became the first witch to kill a human. She forced his son to marry her after threatening to kill the woman he loves, raped him, then kept him away from their daughter for years under threat of taking her away from him completely. She proceeds to use her new position as the Queen of Angellie to make it a living hell after she kickstarts the war of humans, fairies and witches alike. When a certain family refused to gave their son to Hildyr because he was a magically gifted witch, she murders them and then turns the son into her own apprentice. She is also emotionally and mentally abusive towards her daughter, Lucette, brainwashing her and isolating her from the outside world. In one of the bad endings, Hildyr then tries to forcibly absorbs Lucette's magic power and does not hesitate to render her an Empty Shell when Lucette refuses to cooperate with her. She then use her daughter's current state to force her former apprentice to working with her again.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Varg has a considerable fanbase despite functioning as an antagonist through most of the game.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Alcaster crosses it in Karma's route when he completely willingly and without emotion kills his own son. Made worse by Fritz still being very much broken up about his death in Waltz's route.
    • Hildyr has already crossed it in the past, but a very notable one in-story would be when she attacks Lucette in Fritz's route, or when she renders her an Empty Shell in Waltz's bad ending.
  • Stoic Woobie: Lucette is both this and a Jerkass Woobie, due to her abusive upbringing. She's a truly horrible person, but she was literally brainwashed to be that way and is clearly lonely. Once her Character Development starts, she loses the jerkass traits and becomes this entirely.
Lucette: I will not collapse. I am stronger than that. Mother taught me how to be strong.
  • The Woobie: Poor Fritz has arguably the most bittersweet of the routes due to how many of Lucette's loved ones are killed, but he also gets the short end of the stick in just about everyone else's route too. He's killed in Karma's, disappears because no one knew was cursed in both Rumpel's and Rod's, and in Waltz's, he was thrown in prison until his curse could be broken because even he knew he couldn't be trusted. Then after he is pardoned, he's demoted from being Lucette's personal knight.
    • Evermore doesn't particularly help his Woobie status as his route starts off in the graveyard of their fallen friends and yet his own death gets a single, almost throwaway, line halfway through Karma's route.
    • His route in Evermore also has Lucette fail to find Waltz while gathering information about former witches being targeted by angry humans. Maybe he's just hard to track down because she doesn't know exactly where he lives, but given the information she's looking for and that he's not seen again in Fritz's route, maybe not.
