  • Lucette's childhood is shown through flashbacks that get sadder and sadder with every route.
    • Moreover, Lucette finding out about her mother's true nature verges on heartbreaking in most routes given that she'd gone her whole life not knowing that her father truly does love her. Finding out about how much her mother manipulated her, meanwhile believing her mother was the only person who loved and understood her left her believing that nobody at all loved her growing up.
  • All the guy's backstories have some measure of heartbreak in them.
  • Rod's Bad Ending: Rod dies from his curse, fading away while you beg him to stay.
  • Karma's Bad Ending: His curse turned him into a monster which you kill, not knowing it is him. As he is dying he turns back into a human and thinks you never truly loved him.
  • Rumple's past features his fiancee cheating on him after he trade his engagement ring to save a patient's life.
  • Rumple's Bad Ending: He sacrifices himself to protect Lucette from Mythros' knights. Made worse by the fact that there's no teary goodbye; he takes a stab in her place and is killed instantly, without saying another word to Lucette before he's already gone.
  • Fritz's entire route.
    • Hildyr in this route in particular is mourned openly by Parfait for the good person she had been, and even though she became warped, corrupted character, it's really a bit heartbreaking when she dies telling Lucette she loved her although that doesn't erase how toxic their relationship was.
    • Fritz's bad ending. Varg has completely taken over, the Fritz half of his personality erased. He has a Heel–Face Turn just in time to defend Lucette from Mythros' guards, but he gets mortally wounded in the scuffle. He dies lamenting that Lucette would have never chosen him, and slowly fades back into Fritz post-mortem.
  • Waltz's Bad Ending: Lucette is stuck as an empty husk after her mother drains her of all her power. Waltz become's Hildyr's right hand man to stay close to her, desperately believing there might be someway to save her despite Hildyr insisting that there isn't.
  • Waltz's Good Ending: The day is saved, all the bad guys are officially dead, and Lucette's reputation is on the mend. Then Parfait reveals that she is mortally wounded from her fight with Hildyr leading to a tearful goodbye between her and Lucette just before she dies.
    • Remember Lucette talking about the secret birthday celebrations she had earlier in the game? It turns out King Genaro is responsible for all of it, a circumstance which you don't realize until you play Waltz's route and really twists the knife further as to how emotionally abusive Hildyr really was/is.
  • The deaths of Delora and Garlan in Fritz's route and the death of King Gerano in Waltz's route. All of them became family to Lucette over the course of the routes. Which makes the fact that her mother is responsible for the death of all of them that more heartbreaking.
  • Fritz's death in Karma's route. He defends the royal family to the bitter end, eventually getting run through with a sword by his own father. He ends up dying in Lucette's arms, as she cries.
