YMMV / Bonnie's Bakery

Go To

All spoilers are unmarked.

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Are the other townsfolk really Funny Animals? Or is Bonnie just perceiving them as such, literal cattle to be used for her cooking?
    • It has been suggested that in the Bingus Ending, rather than Bonnie negligently serving rotten food, she deliberately attempted to poison her customers out of anger over them being driven away by her poor performance.
    • Did the injured rabbit Bonnie took in die from her wounds and insufficient care? Or did Bonnie do the only thing she could think of when all else failed?
    • Bonnie and Bear; a genuine friendship, or just a part of Bonnie's act?
    • While the secret ending and DLC teaser shows Bonnie rather gleefully putting on a disguise to go find "ingredients", implying some sadistic and calculated joy in her exploits, her actual expressions when she is chasing you tell a slightly different story. If she hears you but doesn't see you, she looks frightened, and when she is chasing you, her expression is one that's more stern and worried than outright furious, "evil" in a moment of madness. She is also noted to be "nicer to the compliant ones", and most of her victims are kept alive even as she is removing their limbs. There's no question that Bonnie is a severely messed-up murderer, but the specifics of her behavior are harder to pin down. How much of it is sadism? How much of her "cute" front is an act? And does she actually enjoy what she's doing, or simply see it as an unpleasant necessity to fulfill her dream of running a bakery?
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: If the player has a gist of the game's premise, it does not take long to realize what Bonnie's "meet bun" sounds like.
  • Catharsis Factor: After having Bonnie escape justice even in the best ending, unlocking the "Free" ending and hearing Bonnie get stabbed to death is quite satisfying.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Bonnie dons her disguise for gathering "ingredients" via a Magical Girl-style transformation. Her immediately after lining up which animal to kidnap just furthers the dark hilarity.
  • Delusion Conclusion: A common theory, which also may be hinted at by the game, is that Bonnie has only been hallucinating everyone else as animals the entire time.
  • Fridge Brilliance: There's a pretty good reason everyone is suspicious of Bonnie during the nighttime segments of the DLC, even if she hasn't done anything that night yet. During these segments, Bonnie wears a rabbit mask in order to blend in with the surrounding animals. Thing is, the DLC hints that the various animal people are actually human, just turned animals through Bonnie's eyes. This, combined with the mallet and bag, doesn't exactly paint the best picture for Bonnie, even if it's the first night and she hasn't even pulled out her mallet yet.
    • Furthermore, if one subscribes to the theory that Bonnie is only seeing everyone as animals, The Hostage's depictions make some amount of sense; Whereas animals are simply easy prey, Bonnie doesn't know what to think of her. Given that she's been stalking Bonnie for a good while, she's just as much predator as she is prey.
  • Moe: Although she's a sociopathic, bloodthirsty, unfeeling monster, Bonnie IS pretty adorable.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: It's a cute animesque game where you bake pastries for your Funny Animal customers, so it must be kid-friendly, right? Wrong. Sure, the game looks pretty innocent until halfway through, when Bonnie throws the player into her basement. After that, it becomes a Survival Horror where the player must escape before Bonnie kills them to make meat pastries. Not to mention Bonnie is a psychopathic animal abuser who enforces cannibalism on the townsfolk who visit her bakery.
  • The Woobie: The mutilated animals in Bonnie's basement. They did nothing to deserve being down there and slowly dismembered, with many of them clearly in pain. The worst is the panda, who has no limbs and is in visible distress over it. Comes off as Tearjerker as well.
