YMMV / Bernard and the Genie

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack includes the works of Mozart and Barry White — both of which Josephus takes a liking to (especially the latter). Given that this movie is set in Britain at Christmas time, we also have "Lonely This Christmas" by Mud, "Merry Xmas Everybody" by Slade and "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day" by Wizzard on the soundtrack.
Josephus: [on hearing "You're the First, the Last, My Everything" for the first time] Woo! Tell me, Bernie, what colour is this guy?
    Bernard: Black.
    Josephus: Thought so!
  • Retroactive Recognition: Alan Cumming is in the title role (well, one of them), four years before The High Life and GoldenEye. Also, Judy is played by AndrĂ©e Bernard, who would later be best known for playing Liz Burton in Hollyoaks.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: A comedy Christmas movie that's basically a modern take on Aladdin with Lenny Henry as the Genie may sound like good family fun, but beware — there's sexual content note , elements of Black Comedy, a few Double Entendres, some violence (most notably, the killing of a policeman with a scimitar) and a swift take-down of the Santa Claus myth.
