YMMV / Bad Boys (1995)

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Fouchet is a ruthless French gangster and drug dealer who stole millions of dollars worth of heroin from a police evidence locker by killing one of his own men whom he had dress as an officer as a distraction. As part of the plan, he blackmailed the local police secretary into giving him narcotics information by threatening to post nude photos of the secretary at her kids' school. When one of his contacts uses a portion of the stash to party with two prostitutes, Fouchet has both the contact and one of the prostitutes killed out of irritation. Making many attempts on the lives of Miami PD officers Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey and those close to them, Fouchet also has his chemistry team killed for delaying his schedule. When finally caught by the protagonists, Fouchet kills his buyer and tries to force Mike to kill him, before making an attempt on Marcus’s life out of spite when this fails.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • There's a reference to Michael Jordan being retired from basketball. True at the time of filming, not true less than a month before the movie was released.
    • At the end of the movie Marcus decides to go home to finally have some "quality time" with his wife, heedless of the bullet in his leg. Mike jokes that with the wound in his leg, his dick probably won't work right. In Bad Boys II, Marcus suffers a(nother) wound to his lower body that indeed causes him erectile problems.
    • Two castmembers of The Sopranos are in the film - Joe Pantoliano as the captain and a young Michael Imperioli as an informant.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Captain Sinclair is played by Marg Helgenberger, who later became well-known as Catherine Willows in CSI.
    • And one of the would-be carjackers is played by Kim Coates, more widely known now as Tig Trager in Sons of Anarchy.
    • Michael Imperioli as an informant.
    • Fans of the Iron Man films will recognize Shaun Toub (Yinsen) as the store clerk who thinks that Mike and Marcus are a couple of robbers.
  • Shocking Moments: The movie blows up an entire airport hangar. There was also a car chase between a Camaro and a a van full of flammable ether.
  • Special Effect Failure: During the taxicab chase scene, the taxi is fitted with a spark emitter to make it look like it is scraping the asphalt but it continues firing even as the cab is driving smoothly down the road, making it look like it has a sparkler attached to the underside of the engine.
    • Also, the car chase with the ether had the bad guys' car explode with a wire pulling out the car hood.
  • Tear Jerker: Max's murder at the hands of Fouchet and Mike's reaction to it (though he takes it well, it’s still heartbreaking seeing a close friend's dead body).
