Scooby-Doo! and the Spooky Scarecrow was a 30-minute Scooby-Doo special released direct-to-video in 2013.

The gang attend a Halloween festival at a town called Cobb Corner, a place that revels in the season, complete with a corn maze and enough corn goodies even for Shaggy and Scooby. However, when they arrive, the festival has come under attack by a local legend, sinister scarecrow Cornfield Clem. Can the meddling kids save the celebration?

Tropes Present:

  • Alliterative Name: The villain is a scarecrow named Cornfield Clem.
  • Bald of Authority: Mayor Husk is bald and African-American.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • When Cornfield Clem wrecks the festival, he cuts loose a corn cob balloon. Fred finds it later in the cornfield and uses it to mess up the combine, throwing Cornfield Clem out of the driver's seat.
    • The cemetery keeper nearly attacks Shaggy, thinking that he stole his tools. He describes the thief as a tall, lanky guy like Shaggy. It turns out to be Abner, the sheriff's hired hand.
  • Halloween Episode: This installment is a Halloween special.
  • Lost in the Maize: Cobb Corner keeps a cornfield set up like a maze (with Crop Circles) for the festival. It gets cordoned off by the sheriff (who's apparently seen every farm horror movie in existence) after Cornfield Clem threatens some local teenagers setting up the scares for the visitors.
  • Mythology Gag: At the end, Shaggy is dressed like Blue Falcon.
  • Needle in a Stack of Needles: Costume shop owner Mr. Bumpy says that Cornfield Clem is a favorite costume for the locals and he expects that many people will be wearing the masks by Halloween. Velma wearily comments that this is going to make things a lot harder. It doesn't come up again, though.
  • Not a Mask: Fred compliments the misshapen and hunchbacked store owner Mr. Bumpy on his mask, only for Mr. Bumpy to reply with "What mask?" Daphne mutters, "Awkward", and shoves him out of the way, especially because he still doesn't understand what he said wrong.
  • Punny Name: One of the residents of Cobb Corner is a girl named Maizy, and the mayor and sheriff's surnames are Husk and Kern.
  • The Quiet One: Abner never says anything besides "Yep" and "Nope", and only when he must. His longest string of words comes when he delivers the standard "meddling kids" speech after being apprehended.
  • Scary Scarecrows: The monster the gang is after this time is a fearsome scarecrow known as Cornfield Clem.
  • Skewed Priorities: Despite all the larger problems cancelling the festival would cause for Cobb Corner, Maizy's only concern is it means she won't be Corncob Queen. Lampshaded by Daphne.
  • Totem Pole Trench: At one point, Shaggy and Scooby are startled by a Cornfield Clem costume worn by two guys standing on top of each other.
